JoshMartini007 2,537 Posted February 3, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 3, 2019 After 3/6 events, leads the pack while are in comfortable positions to qualify to the Olympics. It's not completely over for the European nations, but it would take a couple of great tournaments for one of them while one of the top four has back to back terrible tournaments. As it stands two out of will miss the Olympics, though even if one of them makes it to the top 4 it would only help the continent if they leap-frog Australia. NearPup 3,051 Posted April 21, 2019 #6 Share Posted April 21, 2019 After finishing 11th (!) last year, has won the Japan 7s for their first title since the 2016-17 season! It was a very close 7-5 match with England, with Canada scoring their try more than two minutes into added time. The USA finished 3rd and France fourth. New Zealand was prevented from setting a record winning streak by a draw with Russia and their record unbeaten streak was ended by France in the group stage and the USA in the quarterfinals. Gianlu33 4,569 Posted May 13, 2019 #7 Share Posted May 13, 2019 After the 5th stage and qualified for the Olympic Games. The others favourite for the remaining 2 quotas are Australia and Canada, with France just behind them
NearPup 3,051 Posted May 13, 2019 #8 Share Posted May 13, 2019 (edited) In the last tournament of the year (the France women’s 7s) Canada will qualify if they finish at least tenth, if Australia fails to finish in the top 8 or if France fails to win the tournament. Australia will qualify as long as they finish in the top 6 or as long as France doesn’t finish in the top 3. France basically needs to win the last tournament and hope for some help. No other team can qualify through the World Series. Edited May 13, 2019 by NearPup
JoshMartini007 2,537 Posted May 14, 2019 #9 Share Posted May 14, 2019 (edited) Yeah, it should be a formality for Canada and Australia to pick up the final quotas, though in the very unlikely event Australia fails to advance to the cup quarters, I'd watch any match between France and a European team for potential match fixing... The European qualifying tournament will be very important as it pretty much decides which two nations will grab the final two qualification spots, even if Brazil, China, Fiji or South Africa (should they compete) fail to win their continental qualifier the European teams will be a massive favourite.
