Agree 100%. I dont get the seeding structure at all. UWW must find some other way to seed top wrestlers. This one has 0 effectivness.

Freestyle team is weak. From what i know Iran has huge financial problems which is affecting financing wrestling as well. November according to UWW calendar Iran is going to host U-15, cadet and junior international tournaments. Do you think there is a possibility they can be cancelled?

because of daddy Trump. the whole economy of Iran is in crisis now. but hosting competitions is not a big issue yet. the problem is sending teams abroad. they have to pay 3-4 times more than a year ago for plane tickets etc.

Freestyle

Givi Davidovi (57 kg)

Frank Chamizo (74 kg, #1 seed...but what's the advantage when Demirtas and Borroughs are not seeded?)

Abraham Conyedo (97 kg)

at least he can get a bye in first round :d (unless there are exactly 32 wrestlers)

this year's seeding is a joke because they didn't consider last year WCh results (since UWW changed weight classes this year)

where is Kudiamagomedov ? still not eligible ?

I see. However from what i know, when iran hosts scoolbooys, cadet and junior competitions, Iranian federation pays for the tickets and accomodation. At least its the way how it works with Azerbaijan and its really good for us, due to the fact that our federation is also in crisis.

Wow, no one can afford that unless you are pretty well off.

I don't know...

I hope he's "only" injured and that there are no problems with his Italian documents (actually, it shouldn't be the case, since he already was with our team at the Europeans last May...he did even win the bronze medal in Kaspiisk)...:mumble:

I sent an e-mail to our NF...I hope they give me an answer sooner or later...

Isn't it confusing that half of the Indian athletes only have one name? I mean, there must be millions of Vijay's and Manjeet's :p

Maybe they are like heroes of one of Terry Pratchett's novel? Big Manjeet, Little Manjeet and of course No'-As-Big-As-Medium-Sized-Manjeet-But-Bigger-than-Wee-Manjeet Manjeet?

It is actually very annoying for many of us Indians as well.

The thing is that a large number of our wrestlers and boxers come from the state of Haryana.

Now I am no expert in the subject, and somebody can correct me if I am wrong, but from what I understand, many people in Haryana believe in never ever using your surname with your name because your surname identifies your caste.

There has been some unfortunate caste-based violence in the past in Haryana and, as a result, many believe that the best way to avoid it is to just never ever reveal your caste as it doesn't matter. In fact, I think some of the big boxing and wrestling stables in Haryana actually have a rule that you are not allowed to use your surname.

    • Does the CAS have the authority to address from someone who believes the judges made a mistake in a given discipline? Pizzolato's last attempt at Paris 2024, which earned him the bronze medal, was controversial, but what does the CAS have to do with it? Even if the judges made a mistake then, the result won't change and this isn't the only case where someone feels wronged with this in world of sports. Unless, of course, they have some evidence of corruption or something like that
    • If Pizzolato will to return, would it be to the 86 kg category, or the 94 kg category, like Nasar? In 2024, they were both in the 89 kg category, which will no longer be at the Olympics, but in 2021 in Tokyo, Pizzolato won a medal in the 81 kg category.   Of course, it's unclear what's going on with the rape accusations- personally, unfortunately, I don't think he was ever a sweet angel- he was accused of other immoral things also 10 years ago, but gang rape? I find that hard to believe... Besides, Moldova has appealed about his bronze medal from Paris 2024 to the CAS- the verdict was supposed to be in February. Do you know anything about this? Did they have any grounds for this lawsuit at all?
    • Ukraine won 6 gold medals out of 10 in the women's competotion  + 1 silver and 1 bronze. Where do they get these girls from? It's always been a strong country, but they have never dominated like this. I wonder if their training methods would work in another country and if their coaches have any offerts to job from other countries? However, there is a significant decline in women's judo in Ukraine, so maybe they have directed all their resources and money towards wrestling?   In fact, Ukraine dominates Europe as much as Japan does the world- they have the best school in women's wrestling. In 2024, Ukraine only won 1 silver medal at the Paris Olympics? So even domination in Europe doesn't guarantee even 1 gold medal at the Olympics. Although, of course, if Italy for example, can't even win 1 bronze medal at the European Championships, then there's no point in even going to the World Championships...
    • Sablikova started on the road cycling and just almost qualified for Rio 2016. Maybe Lollobrigida would like to join the Italian track team? She has the good character and 2 medals at the Olympics, one in winter and one in summer, would be a legendary achievement, not only in Italy.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martina_Sáblíková
    • One Wiebes is worth more than the all Italian team with Balsamo/Fidanza, etc., that much clear. Even if the Netherlands loses its dominance in the men's sprint, Wiebes will win 2-3 gold medals in other events. Just relax, man.
    • I'm most worried about our women's team in the pursuit – we have a reserve squad, but not advancing to the top 8 is a shame. We recently competed with out 1 team and had not good in 1 round. It doesn't look good. And the Netherlands are already taking Wiebes to the track team and will soon dominate the Madison/Omnium as well. Balsamo and Paternoster haven't made any progress for years and the our women's team at the Olympics has little chance to win a medal. Italy might even win World Championship/European Championship gold in the years after the Olympics, etc., but when the real fight comes, the UK or the USA will always beat us
    • Track cycling is one of the few sports where there is no host nation quota, so  will need to work hard to achieve our quotas.  It's not our best sport, but was happy to see Top 10 results in the Elimination Race for Grant Koontz and Emma Jimenez Palos (who is just 18!).
    • Yes, I saw the same thing you did @clemsonbeav (on both accounts) but I agree it looks pretty stock.
