Monzanator 4,602 Posted June 14, 2022 #321 Share Posted June 14, 2022 US Open will allow Russian & Belarussian players to take part in the tournament. Which leaves Wimbledon all alone and kills the rhetotic that Grand Slams will stand up to the ATP/WTA running the global pro tennis. Not gonna happen. Victoria Azarenka is a permanent resident of USA, her son has US citizenship since he was born there so it would be extra hard to ban her from playing in any US-based tournaments. Only proves the fact USA cares more about China these days and Biden follows the Trump line of politics with China being the main villain on the global stage. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/14/sports/tennis/us-open-russian-ukraine.html Link to comment https://totallympics.com/forums/topic/12803-russia-ukraine-crisis-consequences-in-sports/page/33/#findComment-475318 Share on other sites
rafalgorka 1,634 Posted June 14, 2022 #322 Share Posted June 14, 2022 Some Russian and Belarussian players are supposed to play in WTA tournament in Warsaw this summer. I hope we will not have any shameful situation here. #TeamMoura-heywoodu Link to comment https://totallympics.com/forums/topic/12803-russia-ukraine-crisis-consequences-in-sports/page/33/#findComment-475319 Share on other sites

hckošice 15,085 Posted July 4, 2022 #325 Share Posted July 4, 2022 Parliament has ratified a new sports law that prohibits Latvian athletes from playing in Russian and Belarusian leagues and cooperating with agents from these countries. In case of violation of this law, the player will be banned for life from representing Latvia. So far the only player who signed a contract this summer with club is Miks Indrašis who signed for Spartak Moscow. According to the law his international career officially ended. Same stuff (but not at parliamentry level) was also implied in and , both federations unofficially threatened their players in KHL they will not be called for their respective national teams. In we do not have such strict measure yet (Unless the player will openly promote or publicly agree with the invasion) even players from KHL can play for our NT. So far there even 5 Slovaks who signed with KHL teams this summer Michal Čajkovský, Patrik Rybár, Christián Jaroš, Michal Krištof and Adam Liška... Will be interesting to see if Ramsay will call them next season to the National Team though, probably yes (unless as mentioned above they openly promote or sympathize with the invasion) Link to comment https://totallympics.com/forums/topic/12803-russia-ukraine-crisis-consequences-in-sports/page/33/#findComment-480412 Share on other sites
