something I didn't know from the varied and complec world of Karate...

the relatively new organization Karate Combat (which includes basically all the styles of Karate and promotes full contact fights) has signed a lot of "Olympic Karate" (which actually is not a proper style) stars for their upcoming 4th season...:yikes:

@MHSN

and to my big surprise, there are also the 3 Iranian superstars, Bahman Askari, Zabiollah Poorshab and Sajjad Ganjzadeh...:yikes:

p.s. I didn't even know that Poorshab comes from a different school than the usual Shotokan, where almost all the Olympic fighters normally come from...

here is the Karate Combat website with many info, including their roster (quite poor among the women so far, we must admit) and TV/Streaming partners...

Shotokan is the dominant school here as well. that's surprising to see most big names come from Shitoryu (and even Gojoryu) :mumble:

Nice, not everyday you see a medal at international events for :CUW

A little off topic, but they’ll be sending a delegation to the South American Youth Games. I’m not sure if that means they’re eligible for all ODESUR events, but we might be seeing some more representation for them in the future.

Stage #2 (:POR Matosinhos) Medalllists Recap

this is the 2nd K1 event that Iranians are missing. they missed last year World Championship in UAE too. actually since Olympics Iran didn't participate in any non-Asian tournaments !!

I'm afraid we won't see them in international competition for a while (except Asian tournaments) reason? officially nobody knows. unofficially I heard things but I can't write them here. :(

PASO is allowing nations without IOC recognition to participate in lower level events. Many will participate at the 2022 Caribbean Games.

still, the Timmermans brothers are full "white" Dutch guys (they are from Heerlen, and they have a third brother also playing Karate)...;)

I don't know why Rob is competing for Curacao, meanwhile his brother Brian is competing for their "regular" Home Nation, the Netherlands...:mumble:

well, I don't know what kind of problems exist right now in the Iranian federation, but I think that those guys who signed for the Karate Combat organization could be out for a while from the Olympic Karate, as they have to train properly for the full contact version and they're also likely have an exclusive with the new job (for Askari it's also a chance to take himself in good shape while he's DSQ at IOC level)...:mumble:

  • 3 weeks later...

Stage #3 of the Karate 1 Premier League is underway in :MAR Rabat

and it's sad to be said, but in my whole life (since I've been following Karate) I've never seen a poor participation in a K1PL event like this week (average level is even way below Serie A standard)...

never, even before Karate was thought to become an Olympic sport... :(

however, see you tomorrow for our usual medallists' recap...

    • Noel- 1st place today after 1 run, Amiez- 3rd place... Vinatzer is a talent similar to Noel, so I ask where are his results, where are the other skiers in the lead of classification? Did they really think they would ride on one Gross and Razzoli until 2026?
    • The problem of the Italian federation is that her system doesn`t work and we can`t afford to lose talents like Colturi. Our slalom does not exist, whether among women or men. We are currently at a level under that Croatia in women and Bulgaria in the men's category. There is no progress, in fact there is regression, because while Vinatzer often didn`t finish runs a few years ago, when he did finish he was able to be in the top. Now he either doesn`t finish or is around 20th place, like now. In the women's category the peak of our abilities is Peterlini, who regularly placed around 20th place in the World Cup... If we can`t afford to invest more than Albania and that with the Winter Olympics in a year at, then I think we can really dissolve our ski sector and focus on something else... If the federation is satisfied with such low levels, let them continue   Btw. maybe it's better investing in private teams like Colturi, if it works? I'd like have 1-2 Colturi in private teams, who will stand on the podiums of the World Cup, than a national team consisting of 5-6 average skiers, who can take 20th place at most, if they finish the race at all...

    • IMO the Italian federation was right in not giving to that financial and political blackmail - had they accepted it, plenty of more established athletes in snow sports could have asked for more under the threat of changing nationality. It's not like they had a sports almanac from the future saying that that 15yo girl would have won 5 olympic gold medals and 5 overall world cups.
    • Allez  He tried to pull this one lots of time and finally managed to go all the way.
    • Nonsense. Chamizo moved to Italy, married an Italian, he's still here after many years and was essentially banned from competing for Cuba. Colturi's tie to Albania is that the Albanian federation had invested a ton of money in her mother's business (élite and very costly academy for young skiers), and then gave her a role, and probably another big salary, as a director in exchange for the pomise of their first winter Olympic medal. A better comparison is to that archer who competed for Ivory Coast because her father had a big clothing business in the country.
