road-to-rio page isn't the most trusted source. I get that they want to update the lists as soon as possible (sooner than IAAF). But in the end IAAF is more trusted. For example, :CPV Jordin Andrade (400m hurdles) qualified some time ago according to IAAF rankings, but he's name is still not on road-to-rio page.

To be fair, 5.70m is also nowhere to be seen on all-athletics.com, which is usually the most comprehensive international database..

The road-to-rio page is a very huge project to manage for one or two people. The list are not compiled by the site itself but are extracted from the  Tilastopaja statistics website. The road-to-rio page then then adds all the qualification and selection information. There are so many events happening throughout the world, athletes switching allegiance to get a shot at competing in Rio, athletes getting injured or disqualified for doping, and countries starting to announce their selection,  that it is difficult to keep track of everything.

Jordin Andrade was listed on the site but still as an American. I have sent a note to the website and his citizenship has been updated now.

Oliver is really reactive. So if you think there is a mistake or some information missing, don't hesitate to drop him a note. http://www.road-to-rio.com/about.php

Well, I wasn't saying that the site is bad (I think it's a very handy site and I visit it quite often). Just that IAAF lists are the official ones at the end of the day. :p

Anyway, I also noticed that :BOT Karabo Mothibi (men's 100m) and :ZAM Kabange Mupopo (women's 200m) are not there. Don't remember if there was someone else.

Thank you very much for the information dcro. Indeed, the federations from Botswana and Zambia tend to send their results exclusively to the IAAF and not communicate them to anyone else which is why other statistics database won't have them.

I am just wondering whether Mothibi's 10.16 can be used as a qualifying performance or not, as there is no wind indicated.

I don't know, but maybe he wouldn't be there if they didn't have wind information.

This reminded me of another puzzle. According to road-to-rio, :VIN Brandon Valentine-Parris qualified with 45.39 in 400m. But, according to his IAAF profile his PB is 47.27 (from 2014, no results listed from 2015 or 2016). Meanwhile, all-athletics site says that his PB is 46.11 from this year. It's a mess.

:AND

Pol Moya - Men's 800 (Invitation)

There will not be a woman andorran athlete in Rio since the IAAF haven't accepted the petition of Clàudia Guri on high, triple or long jump. Sincerely, I don't get why, becouse they accepted her on long jump in the 2015 worlds in Beijing...

Well, that is weird and dissapointing. I thought that IAAF was supposed to allow everyone to enter one male and one female athlete...

I though so. I'd guess that her PB in High Jump (1,79) was maybe not high enough and could not work well with the actual process of clasification, but I don't see the problem in Triple or LJ since it has no effect in the qualification.

To get a wild card in field (and road) events you need the approval of the technical committee which also takes into account the number of athletes participating in an event. Both events are already above the target number (long jump already has 40+) and that's without taking into account other potential wild card entries.

    • Basically, NOCs can attempt to qualify in additional events without gaining athlete quotas. For example, let's say a nation already qualified in the 4- and 4x, they can use the athletes they plan to send in those events and try to qualify in the 8+. That's where the extra coxswains will be used. If a nation intends to attempt to double-up they must let World Rowing know before the final qualifier regatta.   There's a good chance the quotas may not be used and will have to be reallocated. Looking at 2024, only  would have been eligible for the men while the women there's . With that said there's no guarantee they would have wanted to double-up their athletes.   In reality we are more likely to see the reverse, nations who qualified in the 4x, 4-, or 8+ doubling-up athletes for the 1x, 2x, 2-.
    • Hey everyone, how are you all?   Reading the qualification document here and the "3 quotas for additional coxswain" is very confusing to me. Can someone (try to) explain to me please how those quotas will be assigned?    Thank you so much

    • In a country as big as , the odds of Olympians being close to you are quite small; however, once I realized several months ago that even a state as small as mine hosts Olympians on occasion, I decided to scour each sport's calendar to make sure I caught them when they come around.  That led me to the middle of nowhere in my own state today, where there was a 4* Eventing competition, featuring a couple of Olympians and/or World Champion athletes.   Most all the athletes here were local or from USA, but there were a couple who compete for   or .  When we walked up, I had no idea what I was doing.  I thought I was in the right arena at the venue, but I didn't really see anyone there.  (There weren't any stands full of spectators, nor did I see any judges...it was time for dressage.). One of the ladies turned around and we struck up conversation.  Turns out I was in the right spot, and they were just on a short break.  She directed my attention to the upcoming athlete, Caroline Pamukcu.  Thanks to my research ahead of time, I knew she was on the Paris 2024 Eventing Team.  The lady we were talking with was the owner of the horse Caroline was riding.  After she finished with her dressage round, she got off the horse and was just standing there talking with her crew.  We went over and had a brief chat and one of the other ladies offered to take our picture.     I asked Caroline if she was aiming for LA28, and she said yes.  I've also since shown the girls and wifey the video from her Paris 2024 jumping competition.  Hope she makes the team this year!   (Caroline has a Gold Individual Eventing and Silver Team Eventing medal from the 2023 PanAms.  Boyd Martin from the Paris team was also there, himself having a WCh Silver and three gold PanAms.  Tamra Smith, who has a Silver from the 2022 WCh, was there as well.  Waylon Roberts, who represents  and has a PanAm Silver competed.  I saw a few more Dressage rounds, then watched them all do the Jumping.  Didn't get to see Cross-Country, but they'll have another similar event in October.)
