Btw, just a couple of years ago some people were going crazy how breakdance is the sport of the future targeting youths and now it's axed from LA Games to make room for cricket - a sport historically associated with colonialism I suppose that's a huge progress indeed. Where is all the support for breakdance now?

All of that will likely be finalized with the rest of the sports program. We usually learn all that information shortly after the previous Olympic Games.

Breaking turned out - to no amazing surprise - to be anachronistic and tedious as a TV sport - and the affectation of the B-boy and B-girl nicknames/handles rather than addressing athletes by their ordinary name like any other normal human being just made it cringe even worse. Glad its gone, frankly. Chasing 'Yuff' sport with activities that are already a bit passé is incredibly typical of the IOC and Bach, like the Catholic Church thinking it can reach today's youth with 70's folk music.

 

Truth is, increasingly, competitive sport is itself an anachronism for some parts of today's youth. So be it. Chasing that audience is pointless - they won't come, the few that do won't stay, and they aren't loyal. Not everyone can be converted, we need to learn to live with it.

 

If the Olympic Church has a true enemy, it's not the non-sporty, it's the increasing global dominance of one sport, football/soccer to the increasing exclusion of all else. Obviously there are different issues in North America although the principle is the same.

Squash already confirmed it forsees 32 men, 32 women, 2 events, both sexes individual.

Honestly, the WDSF put together a great format for television/streaming to their credit. The sport has filled venues at multi-sport events when more established sports couldn't and, from my personal experience, has been one of the "hotter" tickets to get your hands on at those events. 

 

I'd argue it was left off the program because USA's and LA28's sports priorities lie elsewhere. Baseball, Lacrosse and American Football are just much more established here than Breaking.

Personally, I don't think my generation is any less "sports inclined" than past generations. I think there are a lot of reasons why the younger generation may be turned off from sport, but those could be addressed in the long run with a solid strategy. The "youth are lazy," or the "their attention span is too short" arguments are getting old fast. It's just an easy way for governments and organizations to write-off their policy shortcomings, or their inability to modernize. The issues are a lot more complex than those arguments.
