Alpine Skiing 2018 - 2019 Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

An absolute mass hysteria and madness started in Slovakia after Petra Vlhová announced that her desire to compete this weekend in Jasna during the European Cup GS and Slalom races has been fullfiled and she will start in both races. Thousands and thousands of peoples "attacked" the organizing committee with requests to buy or rerserve tickets...the OC had to answer everyone patiently that this is a freaking European Cup and the entry is free

One thing is sure, the attendance will be crazy this weekend and the absolute attendance record for the lower Alpine Skiing circuit will be just destroyed in Jasná this weekend.

This girl has just surpassed Peter Sagan and all ice hockey stars in popularity in the country by huge difference

Makes you wonder why? Zuzulova was never that popular despite having a similar potential for success only wrecked by injuries? Maybe you shoud change your avatar now? ;)

First pics from todays GS, more to come, especially tomorrow Sunday from the slalom

for the results today Petra won the GS despite her BIB 21 (yeah top 7 in WC means nothing in EC :d) ahead of Marlene Schmotz :GER and Eva Maria Brem :AUT  who were (as all foreign participating teams) really shocked by the attendance

I have a feeling Jasna might take over from Spindleruv Mlyn for a while. Just make sure to offer the biggest prize aka Zagreb style and you'll have WC until Vlhova retires ;)

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
