Women's Field Hockey FIH Hockey Series 2018 - 2019

A little bit to look in the future - Poland's women team will participate in one of the finals - two Polish newspapers wrote about their expected start in Februay 2019 in "II round of World League". As you can see, this sport is not very popular in Poland, even journalist from the most hockey powerful region don't know a lot about international competitions ;)

Draw for the final round was done. (Still two teams from Africa TBD).

Host of each tournament is the first flag. Top two in each will advance to olympic qualification play-offs (don't ask me what are Japan and Scotland/Wales doing here...).

Tournament 1 :IRL:KOR:SCO:CZE:FRA:MAS:UKR + 1 TBD

Tournament 2 :JPN:IND:POL:CHI:FIJ:MEX:RUS:URU

Tournament 3 :ESP:ITA:RSA:BLR:CAN:THA:WAL  + 1 TBD

Good chance for India to be in the qualifiers. Will not get top match practice into the qualifiers, Unless India organize some bi-lateral series with the top notch team.

Tokyo - 2020

Go India Go

Japan/Scotland and Wales are there because this is not just Olympic qualification tournament but a standalone league which will be used for Olympic qualification. Same way other continental champions will still take part in the Hockey Pro League.

Ireland and Korea have qualified from tournament 1 to olympic play-offs (as expected).

Tournament 2 started today in Hiroshima. Japan and India are favorites but Chile is really close to their level and could sneak in that top 2. Remember Japan making top 2 won't automatically qualify the 3rd place here, the quota will go to World ranking.

Do you have any idea of the sort of quality of opponent Ireland might have in the play-off? I wouldn't be overly optimistic of our chances, well I would be cautious maybe is a better way of saying it.

Very likely one of the following:

-either Korea or China (whoever is ranked lower by that date)

-USA

-Belgium

-South Africa or Chile (whoever is ranked higher by that date, I'm assuming RSA will reject continental quota though )

I would say that out of these the only team I'd favor against Ireland is Belgium.

Something important I found out recently: it won't be a home and away play-off, it will two leg play-off in which the highest ranked team hosts twice. Which means Ireland will be hosting both games.

Thanks for the info, and hopefully the home advantage will get us over the line.

China beat us on penalties 4 years ago to go to the Olympics. Would be funny if they were drawn against each other again.

I think Belgium would beat Ireland and the USA used to always beat us until recently when we turned the tables. Not sure I’d want them as the opposition either even if they are probably weaker now.

What is point that Japanese team is playing this tournament? As in men's qualifers we are playing against them in playoffs and once again we are not favourites, last time when we had mens team in Olympics were in Sydney and women's team probably in Moscow...

    • Also, I just logged back into my account, where it sent me to update my profile, and when I saved that, I got a screen that included a check mark next to 'Registered for the Draw'.  Not sure I totally trust it, but it does at least say so.  (There's nothing specifically referencing Drop 2 or anything...might just be a stock screen.). I'm curious what it would look like if you looked at it @esube.  https://tickets.la28.org/
    • I didn't buy any tickets, but didn't get the e-mail.   We bought tickets on my wife's account (earlier timeslot), but not 12, and she got the e-mail.

    • I am very curious.  We got extremely lucky in the first ticket drop, both my and my wife's emails were selected for relatively early time slots-- early enough that we bought our full allotment of tickets for good stuff.  Not swimming or gymnastics of course, but we were really pleased,  d   But today I received an email on one of those accounts saying that we were entered into the second drop because we hadn't used up our 12 ticket allotment.  I went back and counted-- twice-- and yes, we certainly did purchase 12 tickets on that account.      I am not sure I want any more!  Did this happen to anybody else?
    • Congrats to your talented team. Don't know what happened with the Dutch men. In qualies and race for bronze they were a lot faster than Italy, but in the second round our third man (Tijmen van Loon) was almost 1,5 second slower than in the two other rounds.    We really need Jeffrey Hoogland back in our team. That's the only way to give competition to the British team.    However, today was a special day. For the first time since very long we entered the Women Team Pursuit and eventually won the bronze medal. Well, a lot of countries didn't participate, but with a national record of 4.12 still a very promising result. There are rumors that Milano Cortina 1.500 meter speedskating Olympic champion Antoinette Rijpma-de Jong will enter the team.
    • Ju Jitsu    One of the worst martial arts really. Surely the middle east lobby.   The -52kg W final  deserved to win gold and did all attacks still lost to  who was trailing even on advantages and did nothing.      Total mockery of the sport. C'mon I'll happily watch Wushu here instead. Really wished to watch woodball
    • I couldn't find any intro on asian games hub for these games
    • Just realised there is Teqball here     Explains why there is no Sepaktakraw    I think the Teqball federation may have pledged to contribute to the hosting costs for the sport making it an easy choice for organizers and anyhow retired / 3rd string Sepaktakraw players only play it so believe that was the reason.     Anyway hate that artificial sport
