Strolz gets the win :yikes: Not as iconic as Marc Berthod's win here in 2007, but still amongst the most surprising in the last decade+. Now this is a "problem" for Austrian federation, since they kicked him out of the national team. :d And by Austrian rules, whoever gets a WC win, gets a place at the Olympics. They have some decisions on their hands now :d

At the moment, Austria only has 9 quota places for men's Alpine skiing (11 being the maximum). Pretty hard qualification system when a nation like AUT is not able to gain the full possible quota here. Even Germany has 6 places (men), but 7 athletes that meet the internal qualification criteria.

I also doubt that there will be much reallocation places this year. Other than for prior Games most nations should have more athletes than quota places. However, in Women's Alpine Germany will most likely decline three of its current seven(!) places if nothing sensational happens in the last races.

First reallocation places for Men's Alpine at the moment: AUT, NOR, GER, AUT, GER, USA, ITA, FRA.

First reallocation places for Women's Alpine at the moment: FRA, FRA, NOR, ITA, CRO, ITA, JPN, FRA.

It is indeed bizarre how Austria is not having a full team. 9 places is really tight. If we do the count, they'd want 4 speedsters and 5 technicals. Secure places for me have Mayer, Kriechmayr and Striedinger in speed, and Feller, Schwarz, Brennsteiner in tech. Michael Matt should have been there as well, but his abysmal season so far has put a question mark for me. Beyond that, it could swing to different people and last minute decisions.

Yeah, these six names seem to be a sure call. Beside that, Strolz should also be safe after today's race. Thinking of the Combined event, also Schwarz should get a place.

However, AUT should get at least one additional place after reallocation. One or two (from German perspective, hopefully three at least :D) places will surely be reallocated.

    • Yes, he is ones of the first supporters of Milei, owner of one of the most important stock market of Argentina (Bull market), he was peronist and for "unknown reasons" start to be libertarian.   Even being libertarian in my case, i have to admit that him is one of the dumbest of "Milei supporters" and a clown when  he is in TV, he made me feel  embarrassed in many occasions.   Camila Giorgi being with him is.......inconceivable.
    • Ya but the replacement is Pat Bondi, a choice that is only better in so far as Pat Bondi isn't credibly accused of having had sex with multiple underaged girls.   Also, you might recognize this name: Pete Hoekstra has been nominated to be the US ambasador to Canada.
    • Camila Giorgi has a new BF Ramiro Marra. Apparently he's some politician/journalist from Argentina. One of Milei's supporters dare I say? @LDOG@konig

    • 2-1.   But it's good to have a great champion in the squad. I've been waiting for this my whole life. I wish we had such stars in every sport.
    • But he beat Mouat, who seems to be almost unbeatable
    • Argentina has a really solid lineup, especially if they have prepared seriously for this event. Of course they don't have a champion like we do, but in this format it is enough to win 1 match to play the decisive doubles.
    • Today we must to beat Argentina. It looks like Sinner will have to win all the singles and doubles for us to defend the title. So far, the 2nd and 3rd favorites before the tournament have already been eliminated: Esp and USA.
