by the way, at the end of the day we have 2 surprising winners, Foconi and Pozdniakova and even more surprising medallists like Stone, Llavador and Heo...

Italy remains on top of the world's foil and Russia saved the face after 5 below-par competitions...

and finally, I want to remark how it looks we are back to the 20th Century, with that shameful 30-min delay of the streaming, which makes it impossible to appreciate (especially if you also look at live score)...:wall:

stop organizing global sport events in China!!! :redcard:

men's team sabre

:KOR South Korea vs :FRA France

:GEO Georgia vs :IRI Iran

:HUN Hungary vs :GER Germany

:ITA Italy vs :RUS Russia

looks like a golden chance for Iran to enter the semifinal. even though Georgia is no easy after beating USA but still Iran will be favorite here. even though they still have to beat one "big team" for a medal which is unlikely but even a 4th place will be good.

btw Iran actually has 4 sabre fencers there. so the question is why Rahbari didn't participate in individual event ?! :mumble: another possible Israel draw maybe :wall:

and Iran lost to Georgia !:(:wall: this reminds me of losing to China in Asian Champs final which was another "Golden opportunity" . it seems our Sabre team is not "good" anymore. they didn't lose to average teams like Georgia and China for 3-4 years and now they are losing twice in a row.

day #4 and final no. 4 (5th medal overall)...just an ordinary day at the office for Italy...

no, today it wasn't an ordinary day...with all the pressure on their shoulders, our sabre guys did something really remarkable...first, they literally destroyed Russia (and just that wasn't expected, and especially not by this margin), then they took care of the hungry and angry Hungarians, so far the most disappointing fencing powerhouse at these world champs...

so, our guys made up for both the disappointing performance in their own individual competition and also for the shameful absence of the epee girls from the top 8 tableau (they ended up in 9th place at the end)...

now it's gonna need a miracle to beat the mighty Koreans, who seem to be in the shape of their life (as the whole team, since also the epee girls from Korea surprisingly reached the Gold Medal match earlier today), but still we can say this was a positive day for us, in any case...

in the meantime, also the men's team epee and the women's team foil have reach the quarterfinals stage, which will follow tomorrow...

and Italy will be there in both events, thanks to a lucky, very lucky ending of the assault against Spain in the last 16, when first we wasted a 4 hit-lead in the final seconds of regulation, but then we won in the OT (by the way, it all happened because of our usual suicidal tactics of "killing" all the early assaults and rely only on the last one :wall:)...

men's team epee quarterfinals

:FRA France vs :USA United States

:SUI Switzerland vs :ITA Italy

:KOR South Korea vs :HUN Hungary

:RUS Russia vs :CHN China

women's team foil quarterfinals

:ITA Italy vs :JPN Japan

:FRA France vs :GER Germany

:USA United States vs :CAN Canada

:RUS Russia vs :KOR South Korea

    • The full schedule in shorttrack always appears very late, like the day/evening before the first day. So tomorrow evening, you should see it here: https://www.shorttrack.swisstiming.com/?evt=11213100000127
    • I think you're doom spiraling too hard after just a few races...   Giacomel is very strong and I think that he might definitely land on a podium this season. The Italian women's team has a lot of very talented juniors that just need some time to grow. Dorothea Wierer also took her time to grow into her best form, so why is it not possible to give some time to the other talented athletes? Not everyone is bound to crush it at 21-23 y. o.
    • Of course they could make lineal world records, but they don't want that, because those records would never be beaten. And it's way more marketable, flashy etc. when you have "modern" WR and they happen regularly. Athletics have started mastering this in their course of upgrading the old WRs with "exciting new stars".   There is absolutely no reason, when your current weight is up to 89 kg for example, and the previous WR has been set in the old weight at 85-86-87 etc. that it's not automatically taken. It has been set under the current limit, there is no difference if the person weighted 85 or 88.5 kg it's within the range.. Now if the old category was over 89, then there would be an advantage, so those WR shouldn't be taken.    The best way is, like you mentioned, to use the bodyweight of everyone, but that is an impossible ask for any weightlifting governing body. I'm not even sure how they are able to run a normal excel..

Olympic sports Canoeing, Field Hockey, Golf, Modern Pentathlon, Shooting, Sport Climbing, Tennis, and Weightlifting will not be involved in any matter while the non-Olympic sport of Karate was also dropped. Baseball/Softball, Dancesport, and Wushu are non-Olympic sports which will get to participate in some capacity.   22/31 Olympic sports will be present (surfing has yet to be involved at a Youth Olympics).   I know we can't (or should) emulate the Olympic program, but hosts should try to include as many sports as possible, especially the relatively cheaper ones like shooting, sport climbing and weightlifting. The good thing is that it looks like the mixed NOCs events are gone (I think they mentioned this earlier).
    • schedule of events is always the same, you can look at the previous round and see how normally things go   no finals on Friday (qualifications of all events only), medal sessions are always only on Saturday and Sunday (alternating men and women's distances on the 2 days, mixed relay normally ends on Sunday)
    • There are both positives and negatives in this situation. The negative is that we are once again changing the weights and erasing records in an attempt to forget the past and "start all over". Nothing speaks more about the integrity of a sport, when it changes it's system every 5 years.   On the positive is that they are actually reducing the number of weights and not keeping the absurd 10. And i know, that for a long time in the past they were always 10, but i think 8 is the perfect balance.   If only wrestling could reduce them to 8 as well.. Boxing could have 10, but that would still be a plus from their current 13-15, or whatever number they have.
    • I think this time  won't get many 4th places, rather they have some chances to win it all (in Freestyle)
    • some Olympic stars are missing...   no Ceccon nor Martinenghi for  and, above all, no  Marchand
