Being in an outside lane in a 100m can often be an advantage if you are not one of the favourites because if you are in a middle lane and 2 athletes either side of you get a great start, some athletes tighten up and they don't run as smoothly so I think being in an outside lane for Volko may have been no bad thing. He did awesome

Maybe, But again, it is something we will never know the answer now, what could have be if ...

 

However, one hell of a history day for Slovak Athletics, so famous for its tragic results ! 3 Top 8s today, 4th in M 100m (which is already something unbelievable alone) and 6th+7th places in M Race Walk.
