LowerSaxony 205 Posted February 5, 2022 #84 Share Posted February 5, 2022 Only 7 athletes within 1 second after day 1. Very selective track. In 2018, we had 13 athletes within 1 second after run 4. Kindl and Ludwig are practically even, will be very very close tomorrow. rafalgorka 1,634 Posted February 5, 2022 #85 Share Posted February 5, 2022 I haven't checked if somebody mentioned this here before but Saba Kumaritashvili (currently 30th) is a cousin of late Nodar Kumaritashvili who was killed in this tragic accident in Vancouver. Please remember the guy today. dcro 10,210 Posted February 5, 2022 #86 Share Posted February 5, 2022 Few thoughts... Well... I am loving this track! It's long. Camera angles are amazing. Gaps are huge, meaning a lot can be gained/lost, and that there will be huge deficits on the final leaderboard (like reading results from some vintage Olympics). Pretty convinced the Ukrainian luge federation is just a front for a money-laundering operation. In Pyeongchang they finished last in every event (both singles, doubles, relay). Today both their men crashed in run 1. Come on? Should be an exciting battle Ludwig vs Kindl for gold. I am tipping Kindl actually. phelps 1 #banbestmen Link to comment https://totallympics.com/forums/topic/10524-luge-at-the-winter-olympic-games-beijing-2022/page/9/#findComment-445164 Share on other sites
phelps 7,797 Posted February 5, 2022 #87 Share Posted February 5, 2022 I agree with @dcro I'm also pretty sure that the track got slower after the first 4 or 5 runs in both runs, but then managed to be at least fair for every guy (on the contrary of many races we've seen on the "historical" tracks in these years)... the only thing I don't like about it, it's the excessive importance that the start has, I'd have liked a couple more tricky passages in the late turns and to avoid that uphill section... Obviously, I hope that D-Fish can save his ass and get the bronze medal he missed by 2/1000 of a second 4 years ago... NearPup 3,158 Posted February 6, 2022 #90 Share Posted February 6, 2022 I really lived the Beijing track at the test event, too. It’s a shame it won’t be a regular on the world cup circuit due to it’s location.
