I assume even Canadian users here wouldn't have recognized Boyd-Clowes if he walked past them on the street but in 2015 he was forced to start a crowd-funding campaign just to buy plane tickets to attend World or Continental Cups in Europe (he sat out 2014/15 season alltogether). Back then Taylor Henrich was the best Canadian female jumper and even had two World Cup podiums in 2015 but she has retired after 2018 WOG at the age of 23. At least the article predicted that Abigail Strate will be the best among the next generation. Natalie Eilers used to be Canadian #2 but she was displaced by Loutitt before this season.

Maybe anyone is interested from what I watch in Japanese TV recordings:

Noriaki Kasai is the special announcer here and he visited the ski jumping venue, surprising Ito Yuki and interviewed by Polish TVP in the process. When Kasai met Kobayashi Ryoyu who just finished his training, his advice to Kobayashi was 'go back with ease, drink some delicious miso soup and eat dry natto for energy'.

Tonight I went out with some British and South African friends and on the Chinese news on the TV in the restaurant they showed Canada winning the ski jump medal (only the Canadian team).  This was in the middle of short track and Eileen Gu news.  Everyone was impressed, and I was impressed that they made a point to show every Canadian jump on Chinese news.

I had already screamed the news of the medal to my friends the night before, so they knew but they got to see the jumps for the first time.  Told them it was like South Africa winning a curling medal or GB winning a hockey medal.  Unbelievable.

What's the Japanese media take on Sara? Based on her instagram she's thinking of quiting the sport. Did Kasai say anything about her?

Well, there was a time :CAN was pretty good in ski jumping. Horst Bulau won 13 World Cup events in the 80s and the youngest ever World Cup winner is still from Canada too (Stephen Collins, Lahti 1980).

When interviewed Sara said she has worked hard for the jump from zero in the last 4 years, and the support from people around her made her continue. So she apologized for failing to meet the expectation and disappointing her supporters. She did not say anything about quitting.

Kasai said that just by looking at her he can feel her regret and understood well that feeling.

Not much reaction in that show because the TV station which broadcasted the ski jumping competitions is not the same where Kasai was invited. But generally the Japanese public are supportive to her, and media was busy with the mixed team disquaification

We’ve already got one, we’re not greedy.

You told them wrong. :p

South Africa doesn't even have a curling team, while GB can't qualify in hockey like Canada did in ski jumping. A more fair comparison would be like Estonia winning a medal in the biathlon mixed relay. ;)

    • Apparently this season will be last one in Kamil Stoch career if his results wont be enough good for his standards.
    • Such a nice one for Colturi ! That was fun. It almost looked like a script with the cameras focusing on Colturi a couple of times before her first run and showcasing the potential of youngster and she didn't disappoint.      I hope Colturi skis for Albania forever. So much fun to cheer her with the Albanian flag.    I don't get it why everyone is being so critical of Colturi, you got no right to criticize a personal decision, as most European nations use imported athletes in many sports like wrestling and cheer them on like their.   Would you spend hours criticizing Frank Chamizo for switching to Italy rather than playing for Cuba?

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
