The decade long US stronghold on the women’s individual all around at the Worlds and Olympics is finally over courtesy of Angelina Melnikova, though the US got surprisingly close to retaining the title.

It was about time.

Besides, Melnikova is a huge example in perseverance. She started as a mediocre gymnast, almost helpless on some apparatus, bus now she is both a World and Olympic champion. This gives hope for basically anyone who takes up this sport. Even if you're not exactly gifted or exceptionally talented, you can work hard and become the best all the same.

China entry list (non Olympians)

Men: Zhang Boheng (AA, Floor and HB), Si Cong (AA), Weng Hao (PH), Lan Xingyu (Rings), Huang Mingqi (Vault), Hu Xuwei (HB)

Women: Wei Xiaoyuan (AA and UB), Li Sijia (BB), Luo Rui (AA), Qi qi (Vault)

It's a compensation for non-selected gymnasts of OG also an opportunity for future stars. The most attractive part for Chinese fans should be the AA battle between OG champion Daiki Hashimoto and our rising star Zhang Boheng.

Our Zhang Boheng won the battle against Hashimoto in Japan! Happy for his worlds champion title but regretful for his absence on OG.

Winning margin was a tiny 0.017! Don't know for sure but that's got to be the smallest AA Worlds-winning margin since the 2006 Code and its successors were introduced.

What a ridiculous omission from the Olympic team.

Yulo could have chosen to step out of bounds and lose 0.1 in execution and 0.1 in penalty, but he tried to save it, lost control, had a 0.5 deduction and moved out of bounds with two feet for an extra 0.3 in penalty. What a stupid, stupid decision.
