2 skaters: :KOR:ROC:BLR:NOR:POL:CHN:GER

1 skater: :GBR:EST:ITA:KAZ:USA:ESP:BEL

Women's 1000m

3 skaters: :NED:ROC:CHN

2 skaters: :USA:JPN:POL:KOR:CAN:BLR:GER

1 skater: :TPE:KAZ:CZE:GBR:BEL:SUI:ROU

Women's 3000m

Qualification summary after day 2:

Men's 500m

3 skaters: :CHN:JPN:POL:NED

2 skaters: :ROC:KOR:NOR:ITA:CAN:GER

1 skater: :BLR:ESP:USA:EST:KAZ:GBR

Women's 500m

3 skaters: :USA:JPN:ROC:NED

2 skaters: :POL:CHN:KOR:CAN:GER:NOR

1 skater: :BLR:TPE:KAZ:BEL:ARG:ROU

Men's 10000m

2 skaters: :NED:CAN:ROC:ITA

1 skater: :SWE:JPN:GER:BEL

:SWE, :NED, :CAN and :JPN are guaranteed at least one quota in the men's 10000m. It looks like :CHN will just miss out on having a host quota in the men's 10000m, as it stands they are about 0.5s from being on the reserve list (which would have granted them a host quota). The time ranking is obviously final, but the point ranking might still change how deep the reserve list goes.

ISU has a quota tracker, and its different then what is listed here. Looks like the ISU is NOT following their own rules.

Wouldn't be the first time a sport federation doesn't know its own rules/changes them without telling anyone

FFS making my script take into account that a third skater can’t qualify by time (but can get on the reserve list) was a massive pain in the butt and they just change it on me? Come on…

Seems like they did their simulation with the rules from 2018.

Where in the qualification system does it say this?

D2.1: “A maximum event quota of three (3) athletes will only be provisionally allocated in the case that the NOC has three (3) athletes placed in the top 20 (500m, 1000m, 1500m) or top 14 (Women's 3000m & Men's 5000m) in the respective event’s SOQC.”

D2.5: “For NOCs having a third (3rd) ranked athlete placed between the positions of 21 and 30 in the 500m, 1000m, 1500m distances or between the positions of 15 and 20 for Women 3000m and Men 5000m, these athletes will be placed in the reserve list of quota places in accordance with the SOQC rank of the athlete.”

Either the ISU changed the qualification rules, the quota simulation they published is wrong or they are taking into account countries needing to decline quotas due to entry times not being reached (no idea if that would explain the discrepancy).

Let's hope their quota simulation is wrong, because the qualification rules we both used for our own simulations are the rules that are still available on the website of the ISU and you cannot change the rules this late into the season:

Does anyone know how this rule works (D.2.4)? Can women's quota be re-allocated to men if the total number of allocated event quota places confirmed by NOCs on the women's side is less than 83? I can't find such a thing mentioned in the qualification documents, but this rule only mentions a maximum number of 166 quota places, not the 83 places per gender.

I think the total quota that will be confirmed by the NOCs on the women's side will not exceed the maximum qualification places of 83 per gender as there are many skaters who are likely to be confirmed by their NOC for more than 1 distance. For example, if the qualification period would end today, the following skaters would get 4 quotas for their NOC:

  • :BLR Zueva
  • :CAN Blondin
  • :CZE Zdrahalova
  • :ITA Lollobrigida
  • :NED Schouten
  • :CHN Mei

with another 17 skaters who are currently in a qualifying position for 3 distances. Only 35 female skaters are currently in a qualifying position for a singular distance.

However, on the men's side only :BEL Swings will qualify on 4 distances and four skaters on 3 distances, whereas 60 different skaters are currently ranked high enough to qualify for only 1 distance. Therefore, I can't imagine a situation in which 83 quota will be sufficient.

Quote

If the acknowledged provisionally allocated event quota places confirmed by NOCs indicate that the total maximum number of 166 quota places is exceeded, the maximum number of quota places for individual events/distances will be reduced by revoking the provisionally allocated quota from the lowest ranked athlete.

Provisionally allocated quotas will be revoked from each of the following events/distances according to the following order:

  • 500m
  • then 1000m
  • then 1500m

This process will be repeated until the total quota of 166 for the sport is met and may result in the affected NOCs losing some provisionally allocated quota places for the event(s)/distance(s) concerned with possible effects on their overall quota.
