Taekwondo Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024

It seems there will be some adjustments in the taekwondo ranking.

Some of the events got upgraded and will award more points going forward than in the past.

Majority of G1 events will become G2 events (20 instead of 10 points), but the annual limitation of 40 points from G1/G2 in total per year remains valid.

The Presidents Cup from own continent and junior continental championship don't count towards the 40 points.

In practice that means you can grab max 60 points from G1/G2 in year (or 80 if you are a junior)

there is no annual limitation for G4 and higher tournaments as in the past.

Continental Championship and/or Continental Games remain G4 (40 points for winner), new is the Open Woman Championship which was held for first time in 2021.

Grand Prix Series are upgraded to G6(60 points for winner) from G4, Junior WCH is now G7, YOG and Grand Prix final are G10 now.

WCH Seniors is upgraded to G14 and OG remain G20.

In 2022 there will be a lot of points to grab and they will count with 75% for the final olympic ranking.

We will have (unless Covid messes up again everything) World Championship, Grand Prix final and 3 Grand Prix, YOG and Junior WCH, Continental Championship etc. A good junior has really good chances to qualify as eligible for more events than a senior. That is how Zolotic got qualified in 2020 and won gold in Tokyo.

The (stupid) Grand Slam series will remain in place, which also means one spot will probably be allocated to the Grand Slam winner.

For the Grand Prix 32 athletes per weight category will be invited (Top 31 incl. Top from Challenge plus 1 host), max 2 per NOC unless host quota or qualification via Challenge.

For the Grand Prix final it will be top 15 plus host, max 2 per NOC.

YOG

What is YOG? As far as I am aware Youth Olympic Games 2022 were cancelled . ( Since postponing a event 4 years later is called cancellation in my terms )

Thanks to Angel Esteban and levartoz we have that real Olympic ranking including the results of the european and americain continental of may 2022

 https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18vJAIixTBo9HqcjkSnKgAbE8y3lkwBV_j71Cf8kXtxs/edit#gid=1551245009

In the link above you can see the top 50 of each weight with the breakdown of points per season of that real ranking.

The Olympic ranking currently published by the international federation covers the results of the last 4 years, deducting 25% each year. The points of the last 12 months count 100%, the other 12 previous months (from 13 to 24) count 75% and so on.

This Olympic ranking published by the international federation is the one that is certain at all times to qualify for the G6 Grand Prix (where only the top 32 in the Olympic ranking participate in each weight with a maximum of 2 per country).

The real Olympic ranking would include: 25% of the points obtained in 2020 and 2021 up to and including the Olympic Games + 50% of the points obtained in 2021 from the Olympic Games + 75% of the points obtained in 2022 (except for the World Cup which will count 50%) + 100% of the 2023 points

    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.
    • Mary Rand has died aged 86. The first British woman to win a Gold in track and field at the 1964 Tokyo Games (where she also took home a further two medals in the Women’s 4x100m relay and Pentathlon).
    • Athing Mu competed in the USA trials in 2024 and 2025 post the 2023 rule changes. She also won Gold in 2022 and Bronze in 2023.    Jelimo the jury is out. She doesn’t look male like the other two do.
    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
    • badminton queen Carolina Marin announced that she can't take part into the home Europeans in the upcoming weeks because of her injured knee and calls it a career 😭
    • yes, there are (or there was, at least) don't forget that the women's 800m had world and olympic champions like Semenya, Jelimo and Nyonsaba...basically, it was 10 years of DSD winners only the same Athing Mu was suspected to be DSD (never confirmed, but somehow she totally disappeared after Tokyo) then, there were the 2 girls from Namibia (1 won a medal over 200m in Tokyo) in Italy we have the living scandal Valentina Petrillo (a paralympian!!!), who's actually a real man not to mention the weightlifter from who took part into the Tokyo Games so, it's a real problem all around the globe, not just a US crusade against a few woke idiots
