Men's Rugby Sevens Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024

Next year's World Series will be interesting. Lots of teams will be in contention for the 4 automatic spots and the outcome will be decisive towards the continental representation. If Argentina can repeat last edition's performance then Uruguay/Chile could have a huge shot at making the Olympics. Should South Africa continue to crumble (though the CG proved they're far from over), Kenya would be in big trouble etc.

From a strength point of view the best split would be 3 Oceania and 1 European team qualifying, but Argentina, South Africa and the United States all have a chance at qualifying where the next highest ranked nations from those continents will be keeping an eye on.

Uruguay is giving itself its best odds to qualify their men's team to the Olympics. Not surprising considering they've put in some resources over the past two years.

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
