by the way, yesterday the draw of the group stage of the next U-21 European Championships (Olympic qualifier, 3 places up for grabs) was held:

Group A

  • :GEO Georgia
  • :POR Portugal
  • :BEL Belgium
  • :NED Netherlands

Group B

  • :ROU Romania
  • :ESP Spain
  • :UKR Ukraine
  • :CRO Croatia

Group C

  • :CZE Czech Republic
  • :ENG England
  • :GER Germany
  • :ISR Israel

Group D

  • :NOR Norway
  • :SUI Switzerland
  • :FRA France
  • :ITA Italy

the top 2 in each group advance to the quarterfinals (teams from group A will meet teams from group C; teams from group B will meet teams from group D), then semis and the finals (under normal circumstances, the Bronze Medal match will be the Olympic Qualification's last chance; if only one between FRA and ENG would eventually make the top 4, no Bronze Medal match will be played).

but...as France are already qualified to the Olympic Games as Host Nation and England can't qualify because they can't play under the GBR Flag at the Games, if necessary (= both FRA and ENG making the top 4), there will be a playoff to determine the last qualified team between the eligible teams eliminated at the quarterfinal stage.

Can someone clarify if :DOM is qualified for the Olympics? All the sources from July 2022 states they qualified as runner-up of the 2022 CONCACAF U20 championship, but then in December the IOC updated the document stating this:

Does that mean 1 quota was awarded through the tournament ( :USA ) and the other quota will be awarded through a Play-off (involving which team?). So :DOM lost the quota? Thanks!

afaik, the CONCACAF playoff is only among the women.

the men already completed their qualification process in the 2022 continental tournament.

and I can't find a single news about that being modified in due course (like it happened for the women's European pathway).

I searched also in Spanish language among the Dominican websites and press and there's no news of them losing their quota place, therefore I assume no changes have been made in the men's division. :mumble:

Yes, but then in December 2022 IOC updated the qualification document which added the part I showed in the screenshot.

According to @Matej, it is one team from U20 2022 Championship and one team from playoff.

@Laraja / @JoshMartini007 Do you know something more about this?

Perhaps it was a typo? There's nothing in the qualification timeline and back in December 2022 both FIFA and CONCACAF released stories which mention the Dominican Republic competing at the Olympics.

    • Congrats Diggins, well deserved! 👏   Too bad she fell on the last lap in the last race (as well as Karlsson also did x2).   For the future I would really like them to remove the bonus sprint points suring the race that almost makes more importance to the overall standings than the positions over the finish line. And get back to the same point system as the other FIS events. 30 gets points instead on 50, and 100-80-60... instead of this system. in this case Diggins deserves it and Sweden who of different reasons have missed pets of the season On purpose or not, does not deserve it. But it as it is now it may take 20 wins to catch up for one missed race (if the opponent is 2nd in each). Dahlqvist won the sprint cup without any individual wins (3rd overall) is one example of that.    There must be room to miss a race of any reason. If not, it Will not make people race more events, instead it might make skoters who already missed one weekend feel they are already too far behind so they light as well take less priority on the rest of the World cup season. Also skiiers who in Norway for example would be good enough for a top3 in the overall might not even be selected for many races due to the internal competition. Same for a skiier like Ebba Andersson who most likely would not qualify if she would be selected to go a sprint race. But she would still get a few points probably for rk 31-50, but because she would not make it in to the Swedish sprint team she Will lose a lot even compared to those who fail the sprint qualifications. Frida Karlsson another example, she would also probably have qualified most of the times but is most often not good enough to make the team. With more award to winning and making podiums and also less athletes scoring that would make it better I think. The scoring system in biathlon got some critics when they decided you have to count all races, but they at least increased the value of top positions meaning you could faster catch up a bad race/missed race, by a few podiums.
    • Great to see O’Connor on the podium again! Thats 4 major medals in the past 12 months (World Indoors x 2, Euro Indoors and World Championships).   Her strongest event is the javelin so she is going to continue to be a huge threat in the heptathlon this summer and she is still improving all the other events. Exciting times for her
    • Congrats to Diggins winning the WC in her final season
    • Call me mad, but it feels very strange to have made it all the way through a major championships without hearing how the results were going to lead to a slashing of funding for  sport.
    • Only Fabbri from Italy has disappointed and that's a bit concerning... In 3 of the last 4 major events (OG and 2x Indoor World Champ), he's performed significantly worse than he did on the entire season – he took bronze at the 2025 World Championships, but his result was also nothing special. His performance today is completely incomprehensible  (
