For Aistis that is the case, but in dressage there should be two reserves on the ready: Sandra Sysojeva and Dalia Katinaite-Pranckeviciene.

Sadly Sysojeva was out for most of the last season when the team qualification mattered, however this year she made a stellar debut on a new horse Maxima Bella - 70% right off the bat.

:AUS Shane Rose participation in Olympics in doubt after a heavy fall in cross country session this week. He was taken to intensive care where he received treatment for broken femur and fractured pelvis.

The FEI have confirmed the ground jury for the Dressage competition in Paris:

  • :FRA Raphael Saleh (President)
  • :GER Henning Lehrmann
  • :GBR Isabel Wessels
  • :NED Mariette Sanders
  • :SWE Magnus Ringmark
  • :USA Michael Osinski
  • :DEN Susanne Baarup

Based on previous experience, I expect the inclusion of Wessels to be met with a degree of disgust and will give rise to plenty of conspiracy theories when it comes to scoring of the :GBR riders. :d

Just read the official confirmation from FEI, so sad that Svenja GRIMM:CHI lost the quota. She gave an interview to a Chilean newspaper

Not sure if is fair or unfair, but it's sad that qualifications that happen based on tournaments are still not confirmed. I remember thinking about that still in Santiago, but was hoping they would not take her out of the games.

Sysoeva now is representing Poland ;) and probably could fight for OG ;)

:CHI Jaime Bittner will not be competing in Paris due to the death of his horse Eden. As the qualification applied to the horse and rider combination, it means he will not be eligible and the quota will be reallocated.

:GBR have announced the short list of 12 rider/horse combinations for eventing competition in Paris.

Ros Canter - Lordships Graffalo: Canter's preferred horse and European champion from last year and winner of Badminton in 2023. Hasn't had the best of starts in 2024 finishing 12th at 4* in Thoresby Park

Ros Canter - Izilot DHI: Back up option for Canter - was due to compete at Badminton but was withdrawn. Was 6th in 4^ event at Thoresby Park in March and won the 5* event in Pau last year.

Laura Collett - London 52: Park of the gold medal winning team from Tokyo in 2021. Won the 4* event in Burnham Market last month and finished 5th in 4* event at Thoresby Park.

Yasmin Ingham - Banzai Du Loir: 2022 World champion. Competed in Lexington last month and finished 3rd. Also finished 3rd in 4* event at Thoresby Park.

Yasmin Ingham - Rehy DJ: Ingham's back up option - finished 11th at 4* at Thoresby Park in March.

Emily King - Valmy Biats: Has already competed 3 times this year with best result coming at Badminton where they finished 4th. They also won the 4* event at Thoresby Park.

Kitty King - Vendredi Biats: Withdrew from the 4* event at Thoresby park but returned at Burnham Market's 4* event with 3rd place.

Tom Jackson - Capels Hollow Drift: Finished 5th at this year's Badminton after an underwhelming 23rd at the 4* event at Burnham Market.

Tom McEwen - JL Dublin: McEwen is the individual silver medalist from Tokyo (although on different horse) This combination finished 2nd at Lexington earlier this month after winning the 4* event at Kronenberg in March.

Oliver Townend - Ballaghmor Class: Finished 5th at Tokyo Olympics. Was due to compete at Badminton but was withdrawn before competition got underway. Is one of the most consistent combinations on the British team - winning last year's Burghley competition with 2nd place finishes at Badminton and Alnwick 5*.

Oliver Townend - Cooley Rosalent: Likely regarded as Townend's back up horse but given they won Lexington last month and were 2nd at the 4* at Burnham Market, it's a strong back up to have.

Bubby Upton - Cola: Put in decent showing at Badminton with a top-10 finish having finished 2nd at 4* at Kronenberg in March.

Barring injury, I think the favourites for selection have got to be world Number 1 Townend, Number 2, Canter and Number 4 McEwen with Ingham (World number 8) probably going as a travelling reserve.

    • Despite total domination by the Norwegian men (and yes, it's exhausting and boring), the accomplishments this weekend of Emil Iversen and Einar Hedegart are worth highlighting, despite them being Norwegian.    Iversen was dropped by the Norwegian national team after the opener in Beitostølen 2 weeks ago and was not taken to Ruka. Instead, he won both the 10k and 20k Interval Classic starts in Gålå in the Norwegian Cup last week, which granted him a spot on the start line in Trondheim. He took full advantage of that opportunity and finished on the podium in the skiathlon, and finished just off the podium in today's 10k Interval Freestyle. This definitely puts his name in serious contention for a spot on the Olympic team, which looked incredibly doubtful just a few days ago.    Einar Hedegart, the 24-year-old biathlete who decided to challenge the stereotype that biathletes are inferior skiers to their cross-country counterparts, just won the 10k Interval Start against all of Norway's best in a de facto Olympic trial.    Yes, it's exhausting seeing nothing but Norwegian flags on the men's side, but there can be excitement just beneath the surface at times.
