Summer Olympic Games 2020 Medal Count

Recommended Posts

If NZ decided to become a state of Australia and it very nearly happened back in the early 1900s and we'd combine to become Australasia just like in 1908-1912. We will have a combined total of:

:AUS/:NZL

20g 8s 20b and be sitting 3rd. It's become a discussion on Twitter recently and it's all about setting our differences aside and about beating Mother Britain. Them damned antipodeans! This is mainly coming from big brother Australia too. Oh only if this were to become true. It won't of course :p

Interesting that those two nations didn't win a medal in the same event.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

So Oceania would consist of Australasia and the Pacific Islands. No need to bother with continental qualification any more you could just insist on quotas for every event. By the way I like the way the Aussies have incorporated New Zealand into the team's name.

After Day 12 Rio: 217/306 events, 79 NOCs with medals

After Day 12 Tokyo: 242/339 events, 85 NOCs with medals

Also, with :SYR Syria's medal today we're just one more country away from equalling Rio. Which should happen in the next day(s).

As expected beforehand, :NOR Norway bouncing back from Rio (0-0-3 in Rio) and as mentioned above, :KGZ Kyrgyzstan with their best performance yet.

I wonder how many gold medal chances :FRA:GER:ITA:NZL:KOR have left. It's a close race for the 7-12 ranks.

I'm expecting a fairly quiet day for :NED tomorrow, but then an absolute banger on friday with 3 gold medal favorites!

Of course Weertman (10km swimming), Vetter (heptathlon) and Van Schip (omnium) are free to prove me wrong tomorrow:clap:

If all goes well. Canada has 4 gold medal chances (Warner, both women's Canoeing events and Women's soccer team). Hoping all 4 can deliver and make a serious push for top 10

I think South Korea are out of the race. I kinda expected this as they only had archery and men's sabre as strong contenders. Shin Jea-hwan was their surprise in men's vault.

    • It looks like the IIHF is sticking with 3-on-3 overtime for all events moving forward.     BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
    • Although it was a terrible Olympics for Canada, and my two favourite sports (Hockey and Short Track) really didn't work out for us, there were a couple of fun times.    -Women's Pursuit team winning gold because while it was not unexpected at all, it was still a great triumph against an amazing adversary.    -Dubreuil getting a surprise bronze in speed skating 500m.    -Really all of speed skating, Canada and otherwise.    -I really want to say Dubois getting gold in short track, but the whole thing was a mess.    -The last two ends of the men's curling gold medal game.    -Kingsbury getting gold. But it was more relief than excitement, unfortunately.    -I really like the luge relay. Canada was not involved, unfortunately, but it's always fun to watch.    -Men's freeski big air final was nuts! In all the good ways. That was truly the highest level of competition I've seen in a very long time.    -The dog crossing the finish line in cross country, which should have been the meme of the Olympics (not that...other thing).
    • It was also nice to have actual crowds again. I think the Beijing organizers did the best they could given the COVID regulations that still existed in China at the time, but it sure did dampen the atmosphere *a lot*.
    • I was in premium economy as well, the extra five inches of leg room definitively helped me stay sane.   For BA I was in business class and I just wasn't impressed at all, despite the cabin itself being really good (it was a 787-900 so their newer business class product). The service was just... not good enough for international business class - they actually made me appreciate Air Canada xD . With Condor I could forgive the service not being that good because of how little (relatively) I paid, and the seat was comfortable enough.
    • Yes. This was the best WOG since at least Sochi 2014. I only started paying attention to the Olympics after London 2012, so small sample size. But, this was the best WOG I can remember. European fans and atmosphere make everything better in my opinion.
    • There were lots of good moments , this olympics felt so special (I am talking of WOG). The last time I really enjoyed viewing WOG was in Sochi & this tops it. So many feel good moments, very well attended event with spectators filling up stands & making an atmosphere. So many top performances, but for me the  women team dominating the Biathlon event was really special. All 3 of them were just so good & gave top performance. I love it how the female commentator pronounced  Lou Jeanmonnot  & finally grazie mille  we loved it! Thanks for making me fall in love with winter sports again
    • I'm surprised that some Hungarians here are interested in some Nazis in Kiev, instead of their country's economic decline over the last 15-20 years, falling under Romania's level of GDP, when around 2000 it was the richest country in the all former post-communist region. But I understand that this is Orban's tactic to continue ruling and stealing the country, to distract from truly important matters and focus on trivial matters. Clinton's campaign slogan in the USA many years ago: "The economy, stupid!" I think that the current opposition leader in HUN should probably do the same- just do your thing and let Orban himself with all of this Soros, Nazis, etc, only the Martians are still missing in this madness, but that may come to pass
    • I found Condor really nice. I did upgrade myself, so maybe thats why. I would fly them again
