Summer Paralympic Games 2020

Going to be close to see if :GBR makes the target of 100 medals or not. If if they do it’s still a massive drop from Rio and the presence of RPC won’t count for them.

Goalball quarterfinals:

Men's

:JPN vs :CHN

:UKR vs :USA

:BEL vs :LTU

:BRA vs :TUR

Women's

:CHN vs :BRA

:USA vs :RPC

:TUR vs :AUS

:ISR vs :JPN

Spoiler

In the Men's tournament I think there's a chance that all the teams from group A (Japan, Brazil, USA and Lithuania) will advance to SF or at least 3 of those, since there are no big favourites from Group B (Belgium is the strongest team). In the Women's tournament, China, Turkey and Japan should qualify, while USA will have a tough time against the current world champions Russia (but I still think the americans are in a better moment).

Wheelchair Basketball quarterfinals:

Men's

:ESP vs :GER

:USA vs :TUR

:JPN vs :AUS

:GBR vs :CAN

Women's

:GER vs :ESP

:NED vs :JPN

:CAN vs :USA

:CHN vs :GBR

Spoiler

Haven't really been following this tournament (mostly because Brazil didn't qualify), but Great Britain, Spain and USA are the favourites in Men's, with Australia vs Japan for the last SF sport (I would bet on Australia but who knows). In Women's Germany, Netherlands and China are heavy favourites, and Canada should probably beat USA on their way to SF.

China knocks out Japan in men's Goalball which in retrospect isn't that surprising, but given how good Japan was playing here I thought they had it in the bag.

    • Exactly. Recent developments of the construction haven't been particularly encouraging, and while they'll probably get everything sorted just in time, a lot of North American fans have been quite vocal about every minor inconvenience.

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.
