Hubertus failed after a mistake in the last run. Well, he would have probably failed to Q anyway, as his undoing was the DSQ from yesterday.

 

There were no weakest skiers at the Olympics in the last maybe 20 years as the girls which were in PyeongChang

Urs Kryenbuehl had a very bad crash in Saalbach Super-G and is in serious condition

FIS have approved the highly expected cross-border downhills under the Matterhorn for next seasons WC  2 weekends of 2x DH, first the men, then the women, in the last week of October and first of November, after the opener in Soelden. This essentially means that the regular alpine season from now on will fully start at the end of October.

One won the Big Globe the other won the Olympic Gold, but both again dominated also in the prize money remuneration

Apparently Shiffrin made about three million dollars in sponsorship in 2021, so almost half a million dollars in prize money isn't pocked change for her.

 

Shiffrin isn't very well known in though, alpine skiing is extremely niche outside of regions that have a big ski industry. It's a sport that's relegated to a second rate streaming service the vast majority of the time, so outside of the Olympics alpine skiers are almost unknown to 99% of the country.

Yeah, I'm well aware alpine skiing is a niche sport in USA, they seem to focus on some of these freestyle skiers instead. I bet they are throwing money at Chloe Kim left, right and center even though half-pipe has literally zero genuine competition IMO. Talk about excelling at a low-hanging fruit.

American sport in general is very strange in that lots of people do alpine, cross-country, mountain biking, canoeing etc etc without being in the least interested in the professional version of those sports.  Even in athletics this year we saw that USATF has to include high school races in the middle of international meets in order to get a stadium  audience
