Would be great if Germany could replace their 4th runner for the mixed relay final with Krafzik (if they don't get disqualified). The 4th german runner was atrocious.

In the race walking it was a pretty big overperformance. Don't understand the whining when many 4th places are actually overperformances.

What a fail by the german runner in women's 4 x 400 m ...

Crazy that Germany won the medal table with such a huge margin although tons of their medal contenders failed/didn't even compete (Kadiri, Becker, Hinrichs, Attermeyer, Göring, Sistermann, Kallabis, Lahrs, Lukas, Martin, Schmitt, Müller, women's 4 x 400 m). Easily could have been 30 medals for Germany.

Crazy performance, pretty much all your medals are golds. Like Germany you need to work on your conversion rate though, not many keep progressing at senior level. Norway without a single medal after having a great performance at the U23 european championships just recently.

What an absurd coincidence.

Best performances of the first two days at the european U20 championships:

13.12 s by :AUT Enzo Diessl in men's 110 m hurdles, 9th on the all-time list

8.23 m by :ITA Mattia Furlani in men's long jump, 13th on the all-time list

8.22 m by :BUL Bozhidar Saraboyukov in men's long jump, 14th on the all-time list

66.68 m by :UKR Mykhailo Brudin in men's discus throw, 14th on the all-time list

17.97 m by :GER Nino Chioma Ndubuisi in women's shot put, 37th on the all-time list

13.06 s by :GER Rosina Schneider in women's 100 m hurdles, 42nd on the all-time list

Sadly so far no world/european U20 records were broken, but the following championship records were broken:

Women's 100 m hurdles: 13.06 s by :GER Rosina Schneider, previous record was 13.09 s by :UKR Olena Ovcharova from 1995

Men's long jump: 8.23 m by :ITA Mattia Furlani, previous record was 8.17 m by :URS Vladimir Ochkan from 1987

I am officially a fan of Mitrovic from Serbia. She could be a star (at least in Serbia, triple jump probably isn't important enough for her to become famous globally).

Very nice result on day 1 of the european U20 championships from a german perspective:

13.13 in women's 100 m hurdles by Rosina Schneider

Fastest time by a german U20 athlete since 1986.

Dunno if this gets its own thread, but the European U-20s from Jerusalem :ISR start on Monday. All live here.

https://allathletics.tv/championships/ea-u20-jerusalem-2023

Wanted to ask the same. We could see some really great performances:

Possible U20 world records:

Men's long jump (Furlani)

Men's javelin throw (Herczeg)

Women's javelin throw (Vilagos)

Women's heptathlon (Koscak)

Possible U20 european records (apart from those mentioned above):

Men's 800 m (Laros)

Women's 4 x 100 m (GB)

Possible championship records (apart from those mentioned above):

Men's 400 m (Szwed)

Men's 1500 m (Laros)

Men's 5000 m (Laros)

Men's 110 m hurdles (Diessl)

Men's 400 m hurdles (Kostic)

Men's 3000 m SC (Del Barrio)

Men's pole vault (Imsand)

Women's 100 m (Wedderburn-Goodison)

Women's 400 m (Manuel)

Women's 800 m (Werro/Ives)

Women's 3000 m (Caune)

Women's 5000 m (Caune)

Women's 100 m hurdles (Koscak)

Women's 400 m hurdles (Mashanienkova/Uta/Granat)

Women's high jump (Topic/Maes)

The 5 most interesting (in my opinion) talents on the men's side:

:NED Laros (800/1500/5000 m)

:HUN Herczeg (Javelin throw)

:ITA Furlani (Long jump)

:GER Gräber (Decathlon)

:UKR Brudin (Discus throw)

The 5 most interesting (in my opinion) talents on the women's side:

:CRO Koscak (Heptathlon/100 m hurdles)

:SRB Vilagos (Javelin throw)

:SRB Topic (High/Long jump)

:LAT Caune (3000/5000 m)

:SUI Werro (800 m)

I am sure that Serbia never had such a strong team at any level, they could finish top 3 in the medal table.

Oh no ... results like that show that IAAF was probably right to introduce a ranking system. Peak Mihambo probably would have jumped 8 m in that competition ...

Mihambo has called it a season. She's not going to be fit enough for the World Championships and now wants to give herself time to recover and focus on Rome and Paris next year.

Great news ... feels like 90 % of the german athletes are injured/out of shape. German athletics would be in an infinitely better shape if all the german athletes would be close to their best. Ansah, Ansah-Peprah, Agyekum, Mohumed, Farken, Heß, Wagner, Zernikel, Baehre, Sosna, Vetter, Röhler, Hofmann, Mayer, Schwab, Müller, Klosterhalfen, Klein, Kejeta, Burkard, Krause, Kallabis, Granz, Reh, Wender, Mihambo, Kienast, Otchere, Eckhardt, Maduka, Gierisch, Maisch, Hussong, Fuchs ...

At this point even 2 medals at the world championships would be a surprise ...

Weber + one out of Pudenz/Neugebauer/Kaul/Potye

1) OK

2)wait, she's just come out from the juniors (where last year she won the world title with meters of margin on everybody else)

this year she's not improved by much (and in fact I'm quite disappointed, even if she had some troubles, so there might be an explanation), but hammer throwers normally mature quite late in their years...I'm still convinced she'll be among the protagonists of the game in the future

3) my mistake

4) well, this year she's won the silver medal at the Indoor Europeans, she's won both DL meets where she's been in the field, she's beaten Mihambo the last 4 times they've been in the same meet (Indoor europeans, twice DL, EGs), she's the world leader (tied with Mihambo)...she's a newcomer, but she's been "on the podium" all season long, which makes her an "established" elite jumper to me

from now on, I expect her to be always among the medal favourites in each and every competition (then, I agree that overall the discipline has gone down compared to the times of the heavy doping cheaters of DDR, URS, USA & Ajunwa...but that's another story...and it's a beautiful story)

2) Mori is half a year older than Kuhn from Germany and "only" 30 cm ahead of her in the world rankings. I never would look with the same optimism at Kuhn as you do with Mori. The difference might be that Fantini is clearly ahead of every german athlete, so at least your system has proven recently that it can produce (fringe) world class athletes in women's hammer throw. I can't say the same about the german system.

4) You don't have to look back that far. At the last olympics it took 6.97 m to win bronze. At 2022 world it took 7.02 m to win silver and at 2017 worlds it also took 6.97 m to win bronze. I don't think the level will be as high this year. I won't call someone an established medal favorite until she/he has won multiple medals at worlds/olympics. Iapichino is without a doubt a medal favorite (probably ahead of Mihambo for example), but i wouldn't call her "established". Too bad that Davis will be allowed to compete ...

I am actually not blown away by that generation of Hungarian junior swimmers, no matter how many medals they won. We maybe got two talent there who can win an Olympic medal one day, Pádár and Jackl, but I wouldn't be surprised if none of them will deliver Olympic medals in LA and/or Brisbane. Look at the results, not the medals. It's not Italy or Hungary who are the big winners there, it's :BIH with Pudar and :BUL with Mitsin.

We will see about Mitsin ...

I am sure you heard the talk about bulgarian swimming federation. Their last big talent (Miladinov) also hasn't looked great recently.

There are other talents that i find more promising than Mitsin, mainly Cooper and Blocksidge.
