  1. I’m a bit confused by this question.
  2. Huge shoutout to Brazil for leering a “disabled” military member carry their flag in
  3. So doesn’t have two different militaries? I’d imagine it’s a bit awkward planning for these games
  4. This opening ceremony makes me feel conflicted about these games? I men’s sports are about peace, and militaries are for war. It just seems wrong to celebrate military culture. I don’t know. China is using it as propaganda, like every country that hosts these games. It just seems like a bad idea. Especially the motto. If we were coming to together in peace, we wouldn’t need militaries. I get to point of civil defense, but militaries aren’t civil defense. It’s a good opportunity for our service men and women to have a cool experience though, so I’m happy for them at least. I’ll try to enjoy the games too.
  5. That flag truck was impressive and unique. Maybe a dry run for Beijing 2022?
  6. Alright just started watching the opening ceremony, so my following comments will be that. First off, Wuhan is a beautiful city. It’s one I haven’t heard of, but I’m impressed. Also, it’s obvious the games are being hoisted in the city because posters and projections are plastered onto every building, of including the bridges. Winnie the Pooh got rapturous applause when he entered the stadium. Thankfully it didn’t last 10 minutes like in Turkmenistan during the AIMAG.
  7. What day is it, and what’s my name Also, if anyone could return @Olympian1010 pants to the US jury hotel, that’d be much appreciated.
  8. announced a team of 7 athletes today. I’ll find a link later.
  9. @Jan Linha @Function CR Lee I know China is a big country, but are either of you attending the games?
  10. Opening Ceremony with English commentary for those interested: and a 2nd option in case you didn’t like that first one:
  11. @Wumo and @Agger would it be possible just to push the deadline to Sunday? I makes much more sense, and should give users a bit more time as it seems quite a few are desperately behind. As I said before mine will be a bit late, but done by today. I just think it’d be good for the sake of the contest to push the deadline to a more reasonable Oct. 20
  12. Safe to say Catalonia still doesn’t quite like it should be a part of Spain:
  13. My favorite poem is Carlos Drummond de Andrade's poem "The Flower and the Nausea". It barley beats our “The Terrorist He Watches”
  14. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately, I’ve just seen too much of the dark side of the community to able to enjoy myself. When used to play competitively, I’d play COD, Overwatch, Rainbow Six Siege, or Rocket League. Obviously three of those are famous for toxic communities so... Nowadays I mostly play Minecraft, Steep, Speedrunners, or Jackbox with friends. I’m glad we finally have someone knowing about esports in the community . I’d love to know your feelings about Fortnite Chapter 2
  15. Forget the author’s name , but the English version of the title is “The Terrorist He Watches”
  16. It illustrates a true picture of society. Right and wrong are never concrete. No one is free, but everyone had choice to make themselves free. People can rise above stereotypes. People are all evil, and have to choose good. Elites v. proletariat. Education makes for a better society. I could analyze Le Mis for days! The same goes for Animal Farm, The Inferno, Allegory of the Cave, To Kill A Mockingbird, Fahrenheit 451, 1984, Ella Minnow Pea, The Odyssey, The Iliad, Heart of Darkness, Things Fall Apart and many more. My favorite books are (in order) Things Fall Apart, Ella Minnow Pea, Animal Farm, The Odyssey, The Inferno, Le Mis. I do have one of the highest language scores in the nation after all. However, there are a lot of books that hate that I haven’t read. My 2nd favorite poem is Polish by the way.
  17. Very interesting video: However some major players like the Haredi and Islamists were left out of the conversation. They did ask great questions though. I tend to agree with many of the people here expect for Ran. My response to his “We need only an Israeli state” is “We only need a Palestinian state”. The IDF and Hamas are equally as guilty and bad in my opinion. The PA isn’t much better. I totally commend everyone on this video for their very inciteful opinions on the big issues. To answer a few of the questions. I used to believe and two stare solutions and still do, but I favor the Palestinian cause now. When meet with violence, or repression; violence is an acceptable means of achieving a goal. It’s not Israeli land, but they’re not safe anywhere else, so they need it. I might add some later.
  18. Quite an impressive volleyball venue for the woman:
  19. It’s okay. Well just go back to real military work now
  20. Yeah Les Misérables is very much some of the groundwork for my political beliefs.
  21. Oh cool interesting. I’ve seen a few leaders do it. It’s a great political move (as long as your not the IOC/OCA President faking it at an opening ceremony)
  22. Well I got rejected by the WCF, so officially hate Scotland now. Good news @Dragon, Wales is now my favorite part of Union.
  23. Real Sports . In all reality, I’ve just never been interested in competitive gaming. I many ways I am progressive, but I find the when it comes to sports I am more of traditionalist. I prefer the traditional disciplines of Parkour, Climbing, and Skating. The same goes for gaming. I love watching someone causally game, or I myself like to causally game. I might play competitive every once in a while, but I’ve found that the competitive community has the most social issues, and is actually huge bee racial, nationalistic, and gender hatred. I’ve had poor experiences with the competitive community. All that said, I can enjoy a good match of Overwatch League (or at least I used to before China ran Blizzard). I used to watch the Halo and COD world championships. I am pretty much strictly a console gamer as well, so again, more traditional.
  24. The code of ethics that exists in Pashtun culture is one of my favorite things to study. It might actually be my thesis paper for my communications major. I wouldn’t just be Pashtun, it would be other traditional ethic codes too of course. I totally forgot about Dari . It’s spoken more in the cities right? And then the rural and mountain areas speak Pashto?
