  1. I didn’t get selected for the student media program
  2. What’s interesting is the amount of words that are only used in Californian English. Stellar, Gnarly, Down (as in, I’m down, I’m coming down, I’m going down, I’m getting down, You down? (A five of those mean different things)), Dude (which has actually become a gender neutral pronoun, I believe we are the only English dialect with such a thing), Bro, etc. Californian tends to shorten words, phrases, and sentences. We also use a lot of Spanish, some words have actually essentially become parts of Californian English. If I am going to friends house, I might “pop by” “stop by”, “pop in”, “come around” , “come over”, “drop by”, “drop in” , or “hop on over”; bu I’d never “visit”, “drive over” , or “go to my friends house”
  3. As someone learning Spanish, this video if very funny. Especially the last 5 minutes. How true is this @LDOG @konig @Manulete @mrv86 @Jur @Cobi?
  4. Just want to point out that @Wumo didn’t deny having magic mushrooms...
  5. @Dolby When I listen to that awesome version of the Indian national anthem made a few years back, it almost sounds like different verses are in different languages. Is that true?
  6. I was trying to learn Esperanto for a bit, but it was just too hard without anyone to speak it with. Same goes for High Valyrian
  7. That’s why I thought this would be a great thread to have.
  8. has been building a program silently. They actually have 2 jumpers with quotas for the 2020 YOG. Unfortunately, they haven’t meet the minimum requirements yet. the same goes for (the most successful so far), (also have 2020 YOG jumpers), and (world championships jumpers and YOG jumpers)
  9. Yeah the shock of hearing your vowel sound will haunt me forever. I also noticed that “dick” is used rather informally to call someone an a-hole or idiot. ēgg nothing beats the New Zealand pronunciation of egg
  10. I’ve got some tickets I’m looking to get rid of if you want them. The information @Blue Swede gave is also good.
  11. Actual letter that Trump sent to Turkey, and then choose to release so we could all laugh at him:
  12. Obviously didn’t read 3 posts up
  13. @NearPup cheering for Canada is now sac-religious and expected. Canada is USA 2 for American fans . Also, you have to use Soccer now
  14. Texas is Texas. I see you’re already becoming a true American
  15. Oh cool. I mean it’s Texas, but I can overlook that . Lucky, I wouldn’t call Dallas “The South”, so we can still be friends.
  16. @Gianlu33 Hola works for CCTV-5, so you can watch the games if you find yourself wanting to. They post full replays of matches as well.
  17. Ok my Tokyo 2020 planning group we were talking about differences in language, and it made me realize how much I’d love to have a thread about that on Totallympics. The conversation started when someone used “Cali” to describe California. Californians never use the word “Cali”, we do use “SoCal/NorCal”, but not “Cali”. I once reprimanded a kid from New Zealand for saying that when he visited. Also, at @Wanderer I have a question about Kiwi slang if you don’t mind.
  18. This is the place to talk about all things languages. Differences, similarities, grammar, slang, language facts, funny sayings, etc. Have fun!
  19. Paid USD $11 for a one month subscription to a vpn service that offers China . Works like a charm though. I’m currently watching the v. football match @bestmen
  20. Oh cool. Where do you live currently? Not in California I’m assuming.
  21. Citizen? Refugee? Visitor?
  22. So I’m left with three options 1) Find a CCTV-5 livestream. I did five pages of google searches and came up empty handed. If someone finds one, let me know. 2) buy my fourth vpn 3) not watch the games, which is unacceptable.
  23. (though I could be swayed). I also only support movements with realistic chances (at least in theory), solid planning, and legitimacy. Also, “countries” that only want to be independent to be able to join another nation or become a puppet state don’t get considered. Though I say I’m a democratic socialist it’s much more complicated. I hate when people use “left” and “right” because it shows a lack of understanding, a lack of education, a lack of knowledge, and general laziness. However, if I were to most accurately describe myself I’d just say “far-left”, because “Democratic Green Social-Anarchist” is a bit of a mouth full. That’s generally why I say “Democratic socialist” when talking about my political affiliation. Generally speaking I vote for the progressive party with best ideas, that I think has the potential to help better as many peoples lives as possible. My actual political beliefs change party affiliation on almost every issue (at least when taking European politics). American politics don’t really give me those options.
  24. I see that Spain has successfully reignited the Catalonian independence movement, which like most independence moments, I support.
  25. There are 3 groups. The website my have a glitch, but there are 3 groups.
