  1. So basically 16th century explorers
  2. Plus, you’re comparing a population that largely believes in basic scientific principles, to one that refuses to.
  3. Kids pick up language really easily until they turn 6/7 (then they’ll start to need some actual lessons). My debate professor had her son (currently 3) watch Korean, English, Spanish, and German cartoons; and now he can speak elementary levels in all 4 languages. Interestingly, his concept of language is different because he’ll use multiple languages in one sentence
  4. At least someone has managed to accomplish something during quarantine Not the cleanest trick you’ll ever see, but it’s still a milestone. I don’t think we’ll see Gui in Tokyo since he really is a vert specialist, but he has said that he’d like to go if given the opportunity. I don’t think he can qualify since he hasn’t competed in any of the qualification events. I’m not sure how Brazilian he is because he spoke near perfect English (with no real accent) in all his interviews, but he’s representing them well nonetheless.
  5. I just noticed the first season is all on YouTube for free! I’m sure it’s not as good as I remember it as a kid, but I’ll give it a go again.
  6. Well, Nickelodeon was in its golden age when I was growing up. Spongebob, iCarly, ATLA, Korra, and Big Time Rush were all very popular, and still have a lot of following. I was never a fan of Cartoon Network, but there was this one show “Total Drama Island” that was the best. I was a fake animated reality show, and it was awesome.
  7. iCarly was my jam growing up. That’s one of the few kids shows I remember well.
  8. No, our mayor said that they will evaluate the plan every week, but this is the plan for now. We just can’t trust many Americans to follow social distancing rules, or mask laws, or other other measures. It definitely shouldn’t be a two extremes battle, but that’s the U.S. for you.
  9. To the ire of every conservative in the United States, LA County has decided to extend its “stay at home” order for 3 more months. Our health officials basically said that we can’t trust our fellow Americans (and even people within our on county) to heed experts’ advice. I couldn’t agree with them more. This country is full of dumbasses, and it shouldn’t cost members of my family their lives.
  10. I don’t think he’ll have an F1 drive next year. He may have to look towards other series. Maybe a WEC hypercar or something.
  11. Ricciardo is the only driver with an open contract this year too. I would be shocked if it’s not him.
  12. Pavle Jovanovic - Bobsled. He took his own life on May 3. He was a competitor at the 2006 Winter Olympics. More info: https://www.ibsf.org/en/news/8-bobsleigh/21704-bobsleigh-community-mourns-world-championships-bronze-medallist-pavle-jovanovic
  13. Came across someone selling a Torino2006 torch for 120€ today, and I didn’t pull the trigger. I really should’ve becuase that seems like an amazing deal.
  14. My favorite example of historical content in video games has to be Battlefield 1. Nothing beats that opening campaign Plus, they do a great good of using historically accurate materials, and explaining the history behind each of them. They also do a fantastic job of highlighting diversity with in the theater of war. Arab woman fighting against the Ottomans and Mailan soldiers fighting to back France for instance (I think this is a Battlefield 5 mission actually, but that game is on par with Battlefield 1).
  15. Well obviously my opinion on the issue is tainted since many confederate states choose to raise statues to people that murdered Americans and fought to protect slavery. I’m not in favor of those statues that glorify those people, or people who still find it appropriate to wave the confederate flag, or that still use the n-word or refer to minorities in derogatory and demeaning terms. So to me, this is just the European and Asian version of the argument. I think using something for historical context is fine, like a confederate flag in a museum for example. However, there’s a also a responsibility to make sure that we’re not marketing hatred and indoctrinating people. So, in this case, I’d say it’s a little unfortunate that historical accurate symbols were removed from the game. I’ve never heard of the game personally, so I don’t know what it’s like. However, I have other problems with war games and films besides wether or not people include historically accurate symbols.
  16. Well the far-right has been using video games to recruit younger members to their ranks. I don’t really care if a game features Nazi and Imperial symbols for the sake of historical context though. It also doesn’t drive me crazy if they chose not too. There has been some really bad issues with gaming though. Like that game where the sole purpose was to kill as many Roma as possible, or the numerous games where the objective is to kill Jews or other races. I think the gaming community gets such a bad rap because it refuses to address these issues (among many others).
  17. It’s seems like the UIPM still has you on their radar, but I don’t how your time with them ended last time. I think you’ll get more opportunities at some point. As we grow the website, I’d imagine some opportunities will arise.
  18. Welcome to life @Vojthas I feel like you forgot to mention something significant that happened a year ago, and seems to have brightened your outlook a little, but I’ll let it slide I was around this time that we really started to get serious about the foundation of Totallympics Media. Just a month ago I had peaked your interest when I suggested doing an international sport podcast. Fast forward one year, and we’re experienced podcast hosts, live bloggers during multiple multi-sports games, and the founders of a wonderful website. We’re not officially to the one year anniversary of Totallympics Media, but I don’t see why we can’t celebrate a little early. I’ve said this before, but working with you was arguably the best opportunity I’ve had as a journalist. Everything’s a little dark right now, but we both know that there’s bigs things to come.
  19. Democrats are just as guilty as the Republicans. It’s like “The Juice Media” (a famous political satire group) said in their rebuke of the two party system. You can vote for “shit” or “shit lite.” For the record, the Supreme Court ruled that Gerrymandering is legal under the Constitution. Neither party is going to change that. People seriously don’t realize how much power a third or fourth major party gives people.
  20. The congressional district that half of my town sits in got a shout-out on Twitter today. What Trump claims is false, but whatever. Interesting that district voted for a rather left representative in 2018, and it looks like they’ll vote for a far-right representative in 2020. Like I’ve said, my town is known nationally for being a hot bed for both far-left and far-right ideology. I vote in the other district, which also has one of the few GOP representatives from California. He’s a real asshole, but the state fucked us when they drew up the district lines. Gerrymandering is another wonderful side effect of the Electoral College.
  21. Postponed events are cheaper, and it makes Lukashenko look like a savior. It’s actually a rather good strategy for building your profile in the international events realm.
  22. I used to play a lot of COD growing up with a few of my closer friends. I remember having a good time playing online. It’s when they started playing with people we didn’t know that problems arose. So I think FPS games are fine if you’re only playing with friends you know, and talking to other sports players in the lobby. My favorite FPS game is Battlefield 1. The war stories are well made. The 32 v. 32 all out wars are the best. I always played as a medic/sniper. I loved going around saving my teammates. I was damn good at it too.
