I don’t know how much of a hand the US has had in Costa Rica affairs to be honest. They were never communist, so we never had a reason to bother them. They had a bloody Civil War in 1948, but them demilitarized completely after learning how hard the loss of life for power can be. Now they rank as best nation in Latin American on many global indicators. I’m not saying that we didn’t whore ourselves through Central America, I just don’t think we messed with Costa Rica that much. We do really need to learn to let other countries make their own decisions. The only time we should step in is when people like Saddam or Bashar are in power somewhere.

I’ve never been more proud to be Californian. We’re practicing our duty as Californians to take care of those most in need of care. Hopefully these help our blue brothers and sisters (since the President has been helping red states out bid them).

Cuomo was slow to react. California began taking measures before it was a problem, Nee York waited until it was already too late. I do like the position California has put herself in. If we weren’t the most powerful/influential state, we should be after this. Personally, I’m for letting the idiots struggle (California First ), but it goes against what I believe is the right thing to do, so I’m sure we’ll make the right choice and help.

It’s a fair point, and one these powerful countries could really solve if they wanted too. I do think leadership matters to a degree. Look at California, and then the rest of the United States. No, we’re not keeping the virus away, but we’re also not drowning in victims like some other parts of the country. We had a leader who took this seriously from day 1. We tried to prevent the spread originally, but we realized we needed to prepare for an outbreak, and now we have a controlled spread. Newsom has done a great job considering the alternative.

I think not having a military also plays down conflict. Plus, they have rates of education and literacy. They have a peaceful, well educated, economically sound population; that’s a recipe for success. Of course some of that is most likely only possible due to support from countries like the US.

I just learned that Costa Rica has no military while doing my Spanish homework. Instead they spend all that money on education and healthcare. What a novel concept Worth noting that Costa Rica is a rare example of a successful democracy in Latin America. They might honestly be the longest peaceful nation in the Americas, but I’d have to fact check that.

Well in 2009 people said WHO needed to chill the f out. We can’t have it both ways I agree that WHO should be allowed to rise above politics, but that ain’t happening anytime soon.

Trump has announced the US will stop funding WHO... It’s beginning to take everything in my soul not to wish ill on the orange idiot. Just to recap, in his time as President, Trump has: pulled the US out of the Paris Climate Accords, banned people from 14 countries from entering the US, presumably broken the law on more than one occasion, threatened (but so hasn’t) to pull the US out of NATO, chosen to continuously battle with our closer allies, and now has decided to stop help funding WHO (which will only punish us in the long run). Supposedly Trump has a good amount of stock in that malaria drug, which would actually makes a lot of sense at this point (horrifyingly).

But we probably won’t have to deal with this disease again since it will be so widespread.

Well WHO is supposed to be a neutral organization. They were highly criticized for their behavior during the Swine Flu outbreak in 2009. They acted on the side of extreme caution this time, so as not to rock the boat of international politics again. If China is giving information to WHO, they’ve somewhat beholden to that information. They can launch their own investigation, but I don’t think that’d fly in China.

Well yeah, our response has been terrible. California is doing the best by most accounts. We’re very close to the Dutch model. Life isn’t actually that different in California for most people. Most people are still doing work, while at home. We’ve made great strides in isolating our at risk groups. Plus, the virus is spreading a natural rate, which is a good thing.

Of course, but the best way to fight this virus is to have a steady infection rate. If we kept the pace of infraction steady, we will slow it’s spread and build up herd immunity. This is sort of what the Netherlands is doing, and I really like the way they are fighting the virus.

The issue is that the disease is going to spread (and it’s actually better if it spreads now (though more gradually would be ideal). So I think France, UK, and US are somewhat in the right here. I actually think countries like Slovakia are setting themselves up for colossal outbreaks later on. Of course that all comes down to when a vaccine is developed, and how long it take the disease to progress.

Except that everyone is doing it now! It’s insane (but also a really fun social/communicational issue to study)!

I’ve only ever watched two, so I’m going to with 2014 and 2018 I watched some of South Africa 2010, but that was a few years before I really got into international sports. 2012/2013/2014 is when I really started getting invested in this stuff, so I can remember watching the entire 2014 tournament. I also watched most of the games from this years 2019 Women’s World Cup for the first time too. My favorite game ever would be Brazil getting their ass kicked by Germany in 2014

People already use a bunch of apps to track their kids and spouses in the US. It’s a really problem, but I’m fairness it’s a not a priority to solve in terms of social issues. It’s in the middle of a rather long list unfortunately

One month until the Tokyo2020 Mobile Phone game is released! It looks super cartoonish, and perhaps even more made up than the Mario and Sonic games, but at least it’s something. It has 15 or so sports, so that’s an improvement on the Rio2016 Mobile Game (which I actually really enjoyed playing). Supposedly you can play online against friends too. If that’s true, we might have to give it a test

I’m just against the use of force. If police/MPs do their job peacefully, using the least amount of force needed, then I’m fine, but I’ve been quite disturbed from what I’ve from a few countries. People should still allowed all the their basic human rights and freedoms during the pandemic. My biggest fear, besides people not respecting what medical professionals advice, is governments using this pandemic to clamp down on rights and freedom (like we already saw in Hungary).

Another one bites the dust... My guess is that these games might not happen, but we’ll see. Either way, the period running from July 2021 to November 2022 is going to be jam packed with big events. There’s just going to be multi-sport games after multi-sport games in the 2020-2024 cycle This year, and half of next year, will suck, but then it will get epic quickly. I’m actually really beginning to like the schedule, even if it’s messed up my plans quite a bit.

It’s official, there will be elections in Wisconsin tomorrow (in-person voting only). The state GOP part sued the state to keep elections tomorrow, and the Wisconsin Supreme Court agreed with them that elections must take place tomorrow (and that voting must be done in person). I swear the GOP wants to spread this virus
