  1. That’s a shame. I’ve really been enjoying this event, but it is hard to find coverage. I believe you can find the daily highlights package on YouTube if it’s any help.
  2. Can runs a similar race to Gega. Takes the lead early in the 5000m and wins the race with a handy margin. I think it’s a smart strategy if you’re confident your best is a comfortable amount above everyone else’s.
  3. No medal for him there. He had a nice showing in the 1500m tonight, but no medal there either.
  4. Absolute chaos in weightlifting. Qerimaj given a no lift on his final attempt (he had failed his two previous), which looked technically acceptable to me. He begins to celebrate before it’s ruled a no lift. He and the Albanian team then go nuts when it’s ruled a no lift. The jury intervenes, but as they’re deliberating the Albanian team surrounds the table and begins arguing with them. Qerimaj is waltzing around the platform pissed. Eventually the call is overturned, giving him a good lift and the lead. He then celebrates more before being escorted off the platform. I’m not sure if situations like this help improve the credibility of the sport, but it was certainly something to watch. Anyway, Zanni wins the gold medal in snatch on his final lift
  5. I’m surprised they didn’t cancel the women’s 4x100m with only three teams contesting the event. Most of these multi-sport games have a rule that a minimum number of countries need to contest an event for it to be held. My guess would be there was originally enough entries, but that there must have been a few last minute scratches…
  6. A couple of crashes at the Tour today, but it’s hard to beat this one from Giro Donne.
  7. Gega obliterates the competition in the women’s steeplechase. She had a significantly better PB, so not shocking, but still impressive. Edit: Oh, I think she may have even improved her own PB.
  8. Tradition at the Mediterranean Games. What’s weird is they still don’t award any for the overall total
  9. This may be some of the worst archery coverage I’ve seen. The EBU didn’t quite plan this one right.
  10. Carnicelli finishes in what would have been 9th place out of the twelve athletes who completed the race. As promised, I did some digging and managed to interview the head of their delegation in Oran. Here’s a link to that article: https://www.infobae.com/aroundtherings/articles/2022/07/01/vatican-city-primed-for-debut-at-mediterranean-games/
  11. won a gold medal in boxing, so just left without a gold medal.
  12. Quite the scene as takes the first track gold of the Games.
  13. gets its first ever gold medal at the Mediterranean Games!!! Xiaoxin Yang wins the women’s singles event in table tennis. What a Games for the small states! now the only eligible country without a medal at the Mediterranean Games.
  14. 6 attempts. Field is cut to 8 after third attempt.
  15. Will we see the first ever sub-5 time this year?
  16. Time trial route reminded me a lot of Baku 2015. Hard to believe we’re seven years on from those Games. They have a special place in my heart since that was the first summer I really started following multi-sports games outside the Olympics.
  17. Crowd was really in to it. That was a fun match.
  18. judoka pipeline produces another gold medalist. Fazliu didn’t win in the most impressive fashion, but win’s a win.
  19. will play in the gold medal match of women’s doubles in tennis. Another small state on the medal table
  20. It’s official! This will be Vatican City’s multi-sports games debut: https://apnews.com/article/sports-africa-religion-marathons-7cc49933950805875868eafce3c398c6 More here: https://aleteia.org/2022/06/29/vatican-athletics-to-participate-in-first-international-competition/
  21. athlete present on the start list for the women’s half marathon: https://gdm2022-pdf.microplustimingservices.com/ATH/2022-06-29/ATHWMARATHON----------------------__C32C1_1.0.pdf I never read anything about them competing, and they weren’t present during the parade of nations. I know their head of sports wanted to compete here, but I assumed they had missed out. I would assume this is a glitch of some sort, but I’ll do some more digging.
  22. Caribbean Games start tonight, so I’ll be watching a smorgasbord of multi-sports games action over the next few days
  23. It was a tough few days for Georgiou , but at least leaves with a gold It’s been a successful few days for team small states
  24. For someone who follows judo more closely…Does the Olympic champion in judo always have gold lettering on their back, or is that just a coincidence on Kransniqi’s judo-gi? I haven’t noticed it before, so that’s why I ask.
