  1. Which is not really a problem. I mean, sad for them of course, but really Ter Mors is probably the only one who might have a medal shot there (meaning, on a perfect day for her).
  2. It should be on the NOS website (well, it is ). I wasn't home today (so I watched it on the NOS app) but I will post the link tomorrow when it starts
  3. Winter Olympics --> Name of an event Speed skating --> Just words It's weird to write capital letter when talking about speed skating in a sentence, it's weird to have two capital letters in a thread title. So I'm happy it's not there, and I'm praying that it stays like this. Prepare for rants if someone changes this
  4. With the minor addition that there is still the option for certain (big) names to be chosen if for example they were on their way to winning but fell.
  5. No problem for me Bergsma missed out, especially after his coach was all cheering and shouting of happiness when Kramer came in 2nd (Bergsma went in the heat after him) https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympisch_kwalificatietoernooi_schaatsen_Nederland_2018
  6. Today one of the highest quality tournaments on the international calendar has started: the Dutch Olympic Qualification Tournament, of course in Heerenveen's Thialf stadium. We started off with the women's 1000m, where Jorien ter Mors took the win and the 1st Olympic ticket, followed by Marrit Leenstra. Ireen Wüst, silver medalist in Sochi, finished in 3rd and will have to wait and see how the other distances end up to know if she can start in Pyeongchang (nothing to worry about yet, I'd say it's extremely unlikely she ends up out of the places on the 1500, 3000 AND 5000 meters). Small detail: Wüst was 0,10 seconds faster than Letitia de Jong, who misses out on her chance to go to the Olympics because Wüst beat her.....and Wüst is her girlfriend. That was followed by the men's 5000m and boy, that was unexpected. The win didn't go to Sven Kramer, who had his 100th senior race on this distance (and won around 90 of them), but he wasn't beaten by still out-of-form Jorrit Bergsma or other main 5km rider and Sochi medalist Jan Blokhuijsen....but by 33-yeard old Bob de Vries, who before this OQT literally said "this is my last chance". De Vries, who starts off his days by milking the cows on the farm before going to his training, had the race of his life and won ahead of Kramer. Blokhuijsen came in 3rd and, seeing he's of vital importance for the team pursuit, will most likely be on the team for Pyeongchang.

  9. That's the one
  10. I'm not sure if it's good to write that on a public forum where FIS might go when searching thoroughly (and yes, I heard the same thing a while back)
  11. That's who I'm thinking of as well but I'm too lazy to write a few words in Google I believe he wasn't a transgender though when he competed, but a man dressed as a woman. I might be wrong
  12. I think a first official Olympic case (although I know there's some interesting stuff to be found in the 1930's)
  13. Unfair, even though it's rather politically incorrect to say that these days. Not an easy situation.
  14. Wait, so a top-67% in the World Cup counts just the same as a top-67% in the Europa Cup in for example alpine skiing? That's kind of ridiculous. Edit: Also rather off-topic I notice, this is the luge World Cup thread, not an Olympic qualification thread
  15. What are the criteria/qualifying standards? The way I see it, the Nations Cup is a qualifying event for the World Cup and so, strictly speaking, not part of the World Cup..
  16. It does affect Demchenko actually, since he's been the coach for quite a while now (at least to his daughter Viktoria, I'm not 100% sure about the entire team but he's quite often there at World Cups). They are not banned from World Cups yet, that is up to the international federation FIL. They may or may not be banned, but if there was a World Cup competition this weekend, they'd be free to compete/be there.
  17. 12, 14 and 11 darts. Holy damn what a first set by Van Barneveld.
  18. Ugh, Taylor through. His annoying 'signing the board' act continues a bit longer.
  19. Henderson wins and Gurney loses, I'm cheering double
  20. Couldn't care less about the logos to be honest, they're always the same kind of hipster thing where a few lines here and there are supposed to have 134 pages of meaning and representing this and that
  21. That is so sad. After speed skating, the next winter sport is slowly being torn down. And biathlon is up next, considering there's another new 'SuperSprint' event later this season.
  22. Big John Henderson is up 2-0 against Daryl Gurney
  23. Thanks. I kinda hope there will never be a link to post here about it...
  24. A two run downhill, for fuck's sake people Did you hear this personally btw, or is there some link where I can read this so I can use it as a source on a Dutch page?
  25. That would be horrible. Which means it could be true...
