  1. Is there any particular reason for that ?
  2. It was me, and I'd say "very few" (at least, their familly will...). I chose these two countries specially because they have other interests during the olympics, and that the media attention that these hopeless cannoeists will get from their home countries will be about non existent. Having, (most of) the top athletes and retaining some international representation is doable anyway, even with only 16 entries. (It will much easier be done with ~20 athletes though).
  3. Is it a self imposed ICF rule, or is it from the IOC ? I don't know that.
  4. Having multiple (two actually) boats from the same nation will have slightly lessen the chances for that to happen, not preventing it That's not how sport is developping in a country anyway, a slightly better chance of making to the olympics or even a very, very marginal chance to win a medal are not going to propel a new sport in a country with no solid fundations. Whithout fundations, that one off, will be simply that: an one off, and will be quicly forgotten. Let say, than in 2020, a german-croatian cannoeist wins a medal for Croatia in slalom. Do you really expect your countrymen will care a single bit about that sport once the Games are over ? Keep in mind, that I'm not advocating to just select the best xx of each discipline regardless of anything else. it's the Olympic Games, it's the Global Games, I get that. There is a need for global inspiration We need the Benjamin Boukpeti or Éric Moussambani of this world. That's fine Still, having world champions left home because of one arbitrary, relentless, rule is simply too much. We simply need to move a few quotas here and there to make room for most (if not all) serious medal contenders. A balance needs to be found between international representation and the strength of the field and not much is needed to reach a much better than the actual one. It's really too bad, there is much to gain, and not a lot to lose.
  5. Let's say, we had this one athlete per country rule enforced for every sport. Sure, it might mean more italian medals in swimming or athltetics, but much less so in fencing or shooting. At the end of the day, we might see a very similar medal distribution between countries. You simply traded medals from the hands of the more competent athletes to lesser ones.
  6. Regarding, future competitions, you have to work with the available materials. You need to be pragmatic. Tier 1: ESP, POR, ITA, ARG Tier 2: FRA, SUI, GER, ANG, MOZ, CHI, COL Tier 3: ENG, US, NED, etc. Considering that the tier 2 nations might occasionally upsetting tier 1 nations or at least running them very close (just like we saw with FRA-POR today), and that at the same time the tier 2 vs tier 3 matchs often end up with the same cricket scores than tier 1 vs tier 3 would. I'd go for a 12 teams A world championsip, 2 groups of five, with the four tier 1 nations always seeded as the top four, first team in each group directly to the semi finals, second and third teams to play off, last team to play out. I'd also love to see some kind of an annual six nations rink hockey championship, but that's never going to happen
  7. Well, that's a tragedy then. Because, really, rink hockey needs all the media attention it can get. Outside of Portugal, and Catalonia, it's a matter of survival. No national or regional or local or even high school TV over here, but that's nothing new in France
  8. Not only that, but the brillant idea to use 2015 world championship results for the draw wich screw the balance between groups with Germany beeing the 4th best seeded team. Everybody knows what are the four rink hockey nations, don't screw that.
  9. A failure in the sense, that one of the (if not the) points of these games was probably to make each of these disciplines bigger by holding them together, and not just one by one. Just like the Olympics are making every sport bigger by holding them together (to a much, much lesser scale obv.) I don't really know neither if it is working for the other roller disciplines (doesn't look like it is though), but for both hockey, it really doesen't. If anything, both hockey are losing (attendance, media attention, etc.) with these Worl roller Games if you comparethem to previous world championships.
  10. Yeah... Thanks, to this fantastic drawing system, having 3 great games against 3 of the best 4 teams will lead us to play for the 9-16th places. Fantastic.
  11. Empate ! 4-4 ! @phelps are there any shot outs in case of draw ? Edit: 5-4 ! OMG ! 3 mns to go !
  12. http://rollergames.tv/live/?liveId=A217BCEBB2594BDF8FE2E65131DBF6630254 France-Portugal in Rink Hockey live.. We're drawing Portugal 2-2 for the moment , We're probably going to loose at the end like we always do. But if we win that, we will send Portugal to play for the 9-16th places Edit: 2-2 at half-time
  13. With the exception of fencing, every combat sports (boxing, wrestling, judo, TKD + weightlifting) only allow one athlete per country and per category during the olympics. You have to go back to 1924, to find a combat sport.(boxing) that allowed multiple entries per nation and per category. Same with the "boat sports" (cannoeing, rowing, sailing), which also allow only one athlete per nation and per boat. Here, you only need to go back to 2004 , to find one of these sport allowing multiple entries per boat (cannoeing slalom). It is also worth noting, that with the exception of women boxing and the longer boats (rowing eights, k4), these sports allready have more entrants that other sports that do allow multiple entries per country such as trampoline or women's BMX (16). Personnaly, I'm against this policy (oh... the surprise). Generally speaking, I think the overall international representation should take the back seat during the olympics and the focus to be put on the better athletes regardless of their nationality or continent. For instance, back in 2012, the future C1 slalom gold medallist (Tony Estanguet) had to beat the then current world champion (Denis Gargaud... future gold medal winner in Rio) during the french nationals just to make to London. Doest it makes sense to had one these two gold contenders stay at home to make room for a kazakh or chinese that very few cared about ? Does it make a better event ? Does it make for a better publicity for the sport ? I'm sure @hckosice could share some similar stories. Not every athletes will have has much patience, and many will drop the sport due to lack of oppurtunities, some will change nationallity, and in case of combat sports, some will go through hell just to make to a different weight category. I believe that you only need to relax this policy just a bit to make this whole qualification process much smoother and utimately to have a better sporting event .By exemple, if you allow only the top three nations in salom to have two entries per boat, that only means 12 athletes. An other exemple, in judo, you could allow two entries as long both athletes are ranked in the top 8 of their respective category, which would mean 15 athletes at the moment, etc. I think there is much to win here for a little cost. Thoughts ?
  14. 100/150 spectators will be generous for the ARG-FRA games tbh. Is it too early to call the games a failure ?
  15. Let me be blunt for one second: - The template used (and forced) to any first post is hideous - The template used (and forced) to any fist post is mostly useless (flags for the host country, who gives a fuck ?) - The template used (and forced) to any first post makes me sick and let me believe I'm visiting a sort of sovietoid dystopian universe We need threads, all kinds of different threads, good thread, bad thread, shit thread even. We need life. Please @Sindo, let it go.
