  1. It's probably way too late and it's not going to happen but basque pelota finally reminds itself that it doesn't cost anything to at least trying https://www.francebleu.fr/sports/tous-les-sports/la-pelote-basque-aux-jeux-olympiques-1548337246
  2. Red Star should make the best of it before they are asked £500K just to particpate
  3. Which is exactly what they don't want. The only point of the Pro League is for teams to have regular home games and to cultivate a fan base.
  4. Watching Karate for the very first time ever
  5. Can Desthieux reach the world cup podium without making a sole podium of the season ? #history
  6. Unlikely, AFAIK, they've never done it on purpose and they didn't do it against Russia during the first group wich would have give them a slighty better schedule for the second round. I believe, they didn't really care one way or the another, and that was obvious on the court. Edit: one of the most amazing statistic about this team: since Beijing 08, out of the 28 KO games they played, they won 25 of them
  7. Première médaille internationale depuis 2002
  8. They already have done that with the 10,500 quotas... and already failed with Tokyo. If they bring the quotas up once again, they would have proved how weak they are and incapable to stick with a number. The quotas ever increase has to - really - stop at some point.
  9. An then, people will ask what's the difference between 11,000 and 12,000 really ? And on and on... That's why the IOC need a clear cut and to stick with it.
  10. Something, that's probably a global concern. How minor sports - that are not commercially viable - cope with broadcasting ? In France, the situation has been really poor. Regional channels are not really a thing and public TV is doing its best not to promote sport (minor sports, specially). The vast majority of olympic sports won't get broadcasted on FTA channels outisde of the olympics. Even a french traditional sport like fencing won't... After ten years of trying to have its own TV channel, the french NOC is trying to launch its Web TV with a M€ 2.5-3 budget . That might be one solution... I know the situation in Spain or Italy is much better with dedicated sports channel(s) showing a lot of sports that won't be shown otherwise. But, I'll be interested to know how is the situation in your respective countries.
  11. So, all of them Thank you for the heads up.
  12. On which point ? Domestic popularity ?
  13. Please remember, that the selection policy will not be the same than in Tokyo. Domesctic popularity is not a top priority anymore and global youth appeal seems even more important than before. This alone can shuffle things up quite a bit. With this in mind, a sport like skateboarding is far from dead.
  14. It's more, they dont want to have to build an other venue outside of the masterplan. It's not a concern for any of these sport, except baseball/softball.
  15. I won't say it is really bold. They are the top five favorites as it stands IMO (not in that order though). My own odds go like this Climbing : 90% Karaté : 80% Squash : 70% Surfing : 50% Skateboarding : 40% Pétanque : 30% Baseball/Wakeboarding : 5-10% Wushi/Bowling/Billard : 1-2%
  16. I actually believe that demonstration sports were a better concept, one that made more sense. Just focus on a couple of sports that are relatively popular in the country, knowing perfectly they will not make to the olympics otherwise. (eg rink hockey and pelota during the Barcelona games)
  17. Small, unfortunately. They were allready small to start with, but with additional sports quotas counting in the overall sport quotas* their chances are severely reduced (or of any other team sport for that matter). The venue is also an issue. The french federation do have a plan for a national stadium, but it's in another part of Paris, it doesn't fit with other venues at all. A month ago, there was a rumour that baseball5 could be pushed over baseball/softball, probably because of these two reasons. *It won't be the case in Tokyo
  18. Karate, TWD, Judo, Wushu at the same olympics. So much fun. Thankfully, I don't believe they will be chosen. Global youth appeal sounds like it will be the main critera from now on.
  19. A few bits about Paris additionnal sports in today's l'Equipe. 5 sports max, IOC is pushing for less Domestic popularity is not a priority anymore First list will be sent by Paris 2024 next month (no more sports could be added after that), will be released during IOC next session (June). Only ~10 sports really stand a chance : The five from Tokyo, wakeboarding, squash, wushu, bowling, pétanque and billard They also confirm that additional sports will have to fit with the Paris 2024 venues map and that the additional sports quotas will have to fit under the 10 500 overall athletes quotas (Baseball beeing )
  20. Trophée du Champion des Champion Donc Martin Fourcade ne l'aura jamais (en 2014, c'était Lavillenie) Un record du monde en athlé > le record de médailles d'or olympiques d'un sportif français ?
