Sports Television Broadcasting Rights

And I know some people who can't stand some Polish commentators and watch sport events on Rai Sport which is available in some TV networks -
Sports Television Broadcasting Rights
Vojthas replied to De_Gambassi's topic in Totallympics Mixed Zone
In Poland we have quite a few sport channels. 1. TVP Sport is a channel of Polish national broadcaster. Because it's national the whole TVP is rather politically ruled and thus highly criticized, especially lately, but the sport team looks quite OK. Of course it is said that they use sport as part of the propaganda, which is wrong, but quite useful. TVP Sport has a wide range of rights - WTA (bought because of Radwańska's good years in the time when the rights were available to buy in Poland), some good football (like Italian Cup, all the matches of first national team), NHL, some major judo events, lately they invested much money in professional boxing, even opening the weekly magazine, and many more. What is not included in the TV channel is to find in the internet and mobile app. Last year before FIFA World Cup the channel became widely accessible with no additional payment, which is the big step for it. 2. Eurosport - I think many of you know it very well. Their biggest "power" is snooker and winter sports (in Poland curling has quite good publicity, though it's not very popular), but Polish Eurosport has also, in my opinion, very strong cycling team with a great duo that makes even 200 km boring stages really interesting because of their funny but also professional style of commentating (this duo commentates also biathlon). 3. Polsat Sport - the biggest not-public Polish broadcaster has three sport channels+one fight channel+six premium channels for UEFA Champions League only. Highly criticised for making almost all big events in PPV. Important partner of Polish volleyball (mostly men), but this year they lost the rights to CEV Champions League. They have also MotoGP, a little bit of football (with Polish 1. Liga, which is second level league and also mentioned Champions League) and lately some badminton. 4. Canal+ - first premium TV in Poland with two sport channels (sometimes sport is also on the other ones)+one after taking over the other station. Main partner of Polish football Ekstraklasa, which is weak sport product, but the broadcasting is really top level, also they have English Premiership. Last year they bought Italian Women's Volleyball Serie A1, which became the preludium to buying the CEV Champions League (both men and women). They have rights for Polish Speedway Ekstraliga and Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway of Nations, Polish male handball league, some EHF Champions League. Also some golf events. 5. Eleven Sports - the newest station, started with two channels, now they have four. As the name says, they have mostly football - Spanish and German league in cooperation with Canal+ and Italian and French league (instead of German, all of them were taken from Canal+ after Eleven came into Polish market). But they have also some ATP tennis, EHF Champions League (I don't know the rules between them and Canal+, they sometimes give the same game in both stations) and Formula 1. The style of commentators is very easy and they try to interact with public on Twitter with dedicated hashtags like #włoskarobota (italian work) or #modanafrancję (fashion for France) etc. 6. Sportklub - last and least, because they are really minor channel. They have for example Austrian and Brazilian league and Copa Libertadores, some foreign basketball (Spanish and Turkish) and handball (SEHA and Bundesliga), and modern pentathlon (World Cup Final and World Champs LIVE laser-run from individual and mixed relays+summary of the other World Cups), though the commentators are taken from other sports and know very little about the sport. They also have the Fightklub channel for some combat sports (they used to have many judo events). -

Women's Volleyball Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games
Vojthas replied to VolleyRuller96's topic in Volleyball
No Thailand, no one is interested in hosting this group so FIVB asked Poland. We'd rather like men's tournament but if we negotiate good we might get both, maybe even for a lower price for women's. -
Equestrian Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games
Vojthas replied to dcro's topic in Equestrian
I don't think we will choose Russia. Though it is our national way of thinking to look for an easier way, in sports we have usually less money than needed, which might be crucial. -
Polish Team will be the Sopot one - they promoted Poland to division A of Europeans. If they will start - of course our federation wants them to start on their own costs (which is, if I count correctly, about 9000 €).

1. Not in this one (Hockey Series) - the additional place is for qualification event (home-away match) and the places for it will be given by the ranking. 2. Asian Games are taken to cosideration as Continental Championships in meaning of the qualification system. -

Japan is no longer considered as Host Country, as it has won the Asian Games. But it doesn't change anything, just the wrong part is in bold. -

[POLL] How was your 2018 speaking about Sports only?
Vojthas replied to vlad's topic in Totallympics Polls
For me: - first waterpolo National Team game in my home city (unfortunately big loss against Germany - when I watched their game against Italy with my friends in Budapest they said that Germans are really weak - then I told them whom the Germans have beaten in the qualification...) - my first journey for my beloved modern pentathlon to Hungary (as the reporter of Polish Modern Pentathlon Association) - finally satisfactory competition by women's volleyball team and I had the opportunity to see it from the tribune in Bydgoszcz (unfortunately I didn't get the accreditation as there was very limited place for journalists there) - great Christmas gift from Cuban women volleyball team that gave up the Olympic qualification giving the spot to our girls - and a bitter sweet story about the death of our First Lady of Sport - Irena Szewińska. Just three weeks before her death I met her at the Olympic Picnic in Warsaw and took a photo with her. Probably I'm one of the last people to get photo with her. -

Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024 Sports Programme
Vojthas replied to De_Gambassi's topic in Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024
No, wrestling wasn't voted a core sport then - the 25 core sports for Tokyo 2020 were voted en bloc, as the Olympic Charter said, thus the EB proposal of voting wrestling as an additional sport together with squash and baseball/softball, with the happy end for wrestling for 2020 and 2024, as well as rugby 7 and golf were voted additional for 2016 and 2020, so they weren't proposed to core sports nor the additional sports. I checked the Olympic Charter archive - in Buenos Aires in 2013, when the Charter from 2011 was in force, there was this term of "sports core" consisting of 25 sports, this wasn't changed during Session in Buenos Aires, but the next version, from the 2015, already hasn't the term "sports core" (it was BLR 45.2 for summer and BLR 45.3 for winter). So this discussion is in fact all about history. -
