Thank you! I am also following Indian sport results very closely. BTW what happened with your freestyle wrestling? I remember in 2012 two of our medal contenders lost against Amt Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt.

Actually we won one gold in Rio in wrestling (Hassan Yazdani). Freestyle wrestling results were ok in Rio. We got better results compared to London. GR wrestling results were disappointing this time. We had 3 gold medals in London, but tbh I knew we couldn't repeat these results in Rio.

But Taekwondo was the biggest Disappointment. We won 3 gold medals in last year WCH . Our men also dominated the asian games. I was excepting 2 gold medals for Rio. You have to keep in mind that we could have only two athletes qualifying per gender before Rio and our Women weren't medal contender before Rio. But this time we had 4 athletes and all were good enough to win the gold medal. Two of them were favourites for the gold (khodabakhshi and Ashourzadeh).

Nice.. that I got reply from @MHSN and you at Same time... Now I understood your pain on Taekwondo.

Am I missed something.. Yesterday WIKI link doesn't reflect your Wrestling gold .. :d .. Happy for your guys..

Yes its big disappointment for too in Wrestling .. After Narasingh mess....Yogeshwar lost in first round and Amit Kumar met with Injury before Qualification.. Men's Wrestling given big pain to us. Atleast happy that we got medal from Sakshi Malik in Women's freestyle wrestling after our medal hope in Women's team Vinesh exit in second round due to Injury..

But biggest disappointment is in Shooting for us where we send 14 people .. but return with empty handed... 2008 Gold medalist Abhinav finished 4th .. Consistent player Jitu Rai fails to qualify to finals in his pet event.. lot many stories .. But unfortunately every one in 14 member team has potential to win medal

Hope our federation will put the things right and focus for Tokyo 2020....Seriously we have good young talents in Archery, Badminton, Shooting, Boxing and Wrestling, Mens Hockey .. Yes ofcourse ... we rarely play other sports other than Cricket

Don't remind me. Some of those hurt a lot (both track cycling ones, Leidy Solis' in weightlifting women's 69k, boxing men's fly) but a couple were so unexpected that were actually very joyful (men's triple jump and men's mountain bike)

Yes. Our best results ever by far and a confirmation that the more serious approach we took since Beijing is paying off. Things are already looking up for Tokyo (Yuri Alvear is moving to Tokyo for the next 4 years, staying at the embassy to complete the whole podium: London bronze, Rio silver and hopefully Tokyo gold). It looks like we're here to stay.

And James was magnificent today vs Venezuela!!

Good to hear.. :) Happy for Colombia ..

We still got 5 medals in wrestling. That is not bad at all. You can hardly compare asian level with world level. Plus at least two of our wrestlers Reza Yazdani and Omid Nourouzi got robbed. I am much more disappointed with Taekwondo.

Past 3 Olympics.. Iran end us with only one medal in Taekwondo.. but No gold at Wrestling is bit disappointment .. Actually I follow more closely IRAN in Olympics and Asian games after India..

You lifter Kianoush Rostami is awesome.. I saw the match during Olympics..

Between I read the story of your flag bearer .. Mind Blowing .. :yes

The fifth medal for Colombia comes in boxing. Ingrit completely overwhelmed her Thai rival and has reached the semifinals. She dreams of an olympic gold and winning Master Chef. The first one is just two fights away.

    REST OF THE PODIUM:

    2. John Murillo (athletics): Overshadowed by Ibarguen on his event, he arrived without much fanfare and achieved a great 5th place and a national record

    3. Fabian Puerta (cycling): Another 5th place, this time in the keirin. Another victim of UCI's willingness to bend the rules for some nations. He still made us proud.

OMG.. I Crossed Verified in WIKI on results .. Sad to see so many 4th and 5th.. its very painful if you

Looks like its best ever finish by Colombia in Olympics.. Right with 3 Individual Gold from Same Olympics and first time ever..  And placed 2nd in South America after Brazil in Medal Table..

Great show guys..  I am great fan of James Rodríguez :)

  7. Just One question on Boxing ..

Is India is only country which complaints about AIBA or many other countries complain on it.. Actually in This forum in other threads many of them don't want boxing to be there at Olympics, as scores are manipulated.

Is there any official complain on AIBA at CAS by any country.  Can someone help me in understanding?

  8. My Opinion:  Below are the reason to Add/Remove

    Reasons to be removed:

     1. Any Sports where judges are Corrupt -  Boxing is best example

     2. Any Sports where More money is there to Control Olympics - Mens football - U23 - SERIOUSLY , Then Why Youth Olympics is there

     3. Any Sports which are not popular in More than 3 Continents - Eg. Canoeing Slalom, Modern pentathlon etc...

     4. No need of too many Combat Sports

     5. Sports with too many medals  - Eg Swimming .. What we are trying to prove with too many event ..

    Reason to be Added:

    1. Add Squash - Well formatted sports

    2. Add more team sports  - Enjoyable to watch - Gets more sponsor for Olympics - Eg. Kabadi (One Popular in India, Iran, Even in US too) ,  Sepaktakraw - Popular in South east Asia

    3.  Add mixed team events as much as possible - So we will get real meaning of Olympics .. No discrimination in Ethnic, gender, race, religion, language.... Best example is Mixed Team at Archery  & Gymnastics etc

Cricket would add a lot of diversity since it's the most popular sport in India / Pakistan / Bangledesh / Afghanistan / Sri Lanka.

Diversity ???? .... All these Countries are colonies of UK Earlier ..

But believe me .. Same thing going to happen like foot ball at Olympics .. Because all important teams like Australia , SA or India will ask important players to take rest and send remaining to Olympics .. and it will be no meaning to have this Sport after that in Olympics .. Real example is last Asian Games.. India didn't event send its team

My personal Opinion the Sports with lot of money no need to be there at Olympics.. the many other games that can represent there ..

    Archery: Add Mixed Team event.

Athletics: Remove one of the walking disciplines for men, add men's and women's cross-country running.

Basketball: Maybe add 3x3, but it's also fine without it.

Boxing: Ether leave 3 weight class for men and 3 weight class for ladies or remove this sport entirely from the Games.

Canoeing: Remove slalom and use quotas to add more sprint events.

Cycling: Add individual pursuit races and maybe bring back team time trials instead of individuals.

Diving: Expand synchro element with allowing countries to compete if they have 2 divers in individual events + add Mixed Team event.

Equestrian: Won't mind this sport going away.

Fencing: Remove team events and maybe add one mixed team event.

Field hockey: Won't mind this spot going away.

Football: Reduce men's quota to use it for other sports.

Golf: Extremely TV unfriendly. Ether change the Olympic tournament format or get rid of it entirely.

Gymnastics: Add Acrobatic Gymnastics  with Mixed Pair event, maybe try to do mixed rhytmic groups.

Modern pentathlon: Change the rules with the horses, change it to dressage or even remove equestrian element. Also might add mixed relay.

    Rowing: More events for ladies

    Sailing: Add Kitesurfing

Shooting: Make it open gender event without diving it to men's and women's, add laser pistol event.

    Swimming: add mixed gender relays.

Synchronised swimming: Remove women's duets, add mixed duets.

Table tennis:Remove men's and women's teams, add mixed team event.

Weightlifting: Ether leave only few bigger weight classes or remove this sport entirely.

    Add:

Air Sports: Just that it would be possible to say that human competes in all elements :d Few nicer events like skydiving formations, accuracy paragliding and etc. that is within Olympic rules for no motor events.

Baseball: Just to add more versatility

Cricket: Just to add more versatility. Although personally I won't like it

I am not fan of Cricket/Baseball to be added to Olympics as it doesn't add diversity .. But Squash and Karate is good sport to be added :)

The Cuban guy(Ramirez) who defeated shiva thapa in 1st round went on to win gold.... such a unlucky 1st round match for thapa even though he is ranked in top 5....

I thought Shiva is our best bet but he was literally toyed by Cuban guy....... even vikas krishnan got pounded by uzbek guy.... its pity that boxing has gone backwards thanks to internal pollitics

Even Repechage round similar to other combat sports would help them to win a medal.. Blame AIBA for it ..

    Tennis:

Ever since, I have been following Tennis, it has been the same story. Paes and Bhupathi (now Bopanna) fighting. Forming team for Olympics and promising a medal. Failing to win one. The only thing that has changed is emergence of Sania Mirza. With her arrival, the legends found a new pawn to fight over, right to partner her in Mixed Doubles and try for a medal. In 2000, Paes/Bhupathi ran into Bryan brothers early on. In 2004, came 4th. In 2008, ran into an angry Federer in quarters. That was the last realistic chance for a medal in MD for two of the greatest Indian sportspersons of the last 20 years. They could never overcome their ego and hatred for each other and win Olympic medal. At their peak, they could have defeated two good Singles players as well, if they had good chemistry. But, alas their chemistry was gone in 2000 only.

The way both of them (along with their fathers and Bopanna) conducted themselves in the run up to London Olympics was shameful.

This time, I was disappointed that no one was able to qualify in MS. But, even there it is the same old story. Since the time of Ramanathan Krishnan, we have had promising youngsters. But no one (with the exception of Paes's Bronze in Atlanta) has come close to fulfilling their potential at the senior level. Just when we get hopeful about someone, he gets injured. And after injury, they just fade away. :(

In this Olympics, I always knew that our only realistic hope was in XD. Even in that, I was worried that we will lose to a team of good Singles players. 4th seeding did give me hope that we may sneak a medal. But, in the end, my fear came true. Murray was tired for his match and hence, we were able to defeat him. Even in SF, Venus was rusty at the start and we won the first set but once, Venus found her rhythm we lost the game. I didn't watch the Bronze medal match, so can't comment on that.

Going forward, Sania looks strong in WD but unless there is another decent women player, no chance of even competing for medal there. In MD, Raja/Sharan are decent but I don't think they can win a medal as well. Especially against good Singles players. We again have a small group of promising youngsters but given past track record, I am sceptical about their progress.

Now, Paes and Bopanna should retire. They can continue to play on ATP circuit but should not be considered for Davis Cup and Asian Games. I think AITA should have done this after London only. They are still better than the others but we need a clean slate if we want to have any chance.

Sir with your permission can I post it my facebook page .. all your analysis are too good.. Offcourse Copywight is you only :)

    Next Field Hockey:

Both teams qualified for Olympics. :yes

Going into Olympics, my expectations (hopes) from Women's team was win the match against Japan. They drew that match. So, 50-50. There is no doubt that Hockey India should have handled the Ritu Rani situation better. We are still a long way from the top level but this Olympics should have given good exposure to the team.

For the Men's team, I knew winning a medal was hard but heart was sure that we would break the drought. We played good hockey. Our fitness levels have improved a lot. We are no longer afraid against top teams and have victories against almost all the top teams in the last 2 years. But even with these many positives (may be because of them) this Olympics was one of heartbreak. The dying second draw against Germany was devastating. Full marks to the team for bouncing back with a win against Argentina. One does wonder what would have happened if we had managed to defeat Canada in the last league game and faced Spain in QF instead Belgium.

We need to work on our defence. There are times when we simply fail to clear the ball and allow opposition insane amount of possession, especially if we are leading in the 4th quarter. Also, we need to reduce our dependence on PC for goals.

Though Narinder Batra runs Hockey India like his personal fiefdom, he does take care of the players. Level of hockey in HIL is good and a large number of top foreign players also take part in it. It is a good learning experience for our youngsters. If Batra can control himself and not fire Oltmans for 4 years, I am hopeful, we can win a medal at Tokyo.

I would also like to thank FIH and Leandro Negre for the way they have supported Indian hockey in the recent past. They worked with HI even when Indian government was giving affidavits in courts that it had no problem if there were no 2 different Hockey federations representing India. They allocated a large number of events to India. India would have struggled to qualify for so many events but took part in them due to being hosts. (FIH did that because of the revenue potential from India). Taking part in those tournaments helped us a lot.

Good Job Sir, I really like your post :) Waiting for Shooting analysis

Its good that today people watch Badminton match with a lot of interest but unfortunately this will be the last badminton match  they will watch until n unless another player reach medal round in future Olympics from our country... This attitude is a problem... Support them in each of there success so that they will treat Olympics as a normal tournament...

Yes.. if not in Every Tournament atleast in World Championship, Asian Games, Common Wealth Games .. etc ,, Even there we don't follow.

I am sure many of them wouldn't aware Sindhu is two time world Championship Bronze medalist until today.

That's the problem in India.. Sorry to say
