  1. It's that Frank something guy, very recent addition to the Italian team, I hope he's a good wrestler.
  2. None of the French fencers was, of course, bought with a check - all of them are French born. Have a read on Guadelupe and fencing: https://tokyo2020.org/en/news/amp/guadeloupe-a-small-island-of-great-fencers And if Guadeloupeans are too black for anyone's taste, try adjusting the color settings on your tv
  3. The European Championships will be postponed to after the Olympics. So the rankings for the seeding at Tokyo can't change at least for European fencers, but likely it will be the same for everyone else.
  4. And it's Jakub Jurka taking the quota.
  5. Yeah, although it's quite impossible to know the fencers' form I'd consider a great success for Spain to get a quota. Imo the best chance is in women's foil (where being no.1 in pools could be extremely important with Israel potentially not accepting the quota if won). In sabre I think Pascu will take the quota. In men's epee there's a lot of competitive fencers as usual, Pereira is one of the favorites but I'd give him a 15% chance or so.
  6. How did Poland choose Jelynska for tomorrow?
  7. And Iulian Teodosiu qualifies in men's sabre. Tomorrow the rest of the competition.
  8. What said above by Wumo, but consider that Pustilnik never made the top 8 in the qualifying period so it could end like in 2016 (Hatuel won but Israel NOC refused the quota).
  9. She's more Italian than British anyway- only using her double nationality.
  10. Quota winners: Women's sabre: Kaouther Mohamed Belkebir Women's foil: Meriem Mebarki Women's epee: Ndeye Binta Diongue Men's epee: Mohamed Elsayed Men's sabre: Akram Bounabi Men's foil: Salim Heroui
  11. African QT today: https://www.fencingtimelive.com/tournaments/eventSchedule/FB27AA011D824D848B0AFEC7B4985CD6#today
  12. if this document is correct, at D 2. Per Medal Event "The highest-ranked athlete from the IWF Absolute Ranking from an NOC (one per continent = 5) not otherwise represented in the bodyweight category shall earn an individual quota place"
  13. Does anyone know the selection criteria set by Israel, South Africa and New Zealand NOCs? I'd expect them to refuse any quota if won at the Zonal tournaments, but I can't find any official information.
  14. Might be true for Americans and Chinese owners, but do you really think that Perez and Agnelli (the two main promoters) did not have a clear picture of UEFA and FIFA's reach and allies?
  15. Would be interesting to know reactions from Asian younger football fans if they are to be the real main target audience for this. Are they overwhelmingly positive? Do they even know (or care about) the difference between the various competitions (european cups, national leagues, etc.) or do they really watch 1-minute highlights of CR7 and Messi without having seen a match? (and in the latter case, why would they be more interested in this SuperLeague rather then the UCL?)
  16. IOC-style: young fans are more interested in videogames and only want to see a Cristiano Ronaldo hat trick in 10 minutes every week! https://www.espn.com/soccer/real-madrid/story/4365073/real-madrid-president-perez-football-matches-must-be-shortened
  17. Have the rules been set already? For example how many times will athletes be tested? And if the rules about contacts with positive people are like those that we've seen in recent competitions, hundreds of athletes, even if vaccinated, will probably miss the Olympics. Personally I would test every athlete just once at their arrival, and then "forget about it" until they compete unless they have very obvious symptoms.
  18. Russia because it's Russia. Japan because it's the host. One spot on the podium left for the best team, maybe Bulgaria?
  19. No worries, Juventus' owners, the Agnelli family, have been buying referees for a century. They probably still have a few hundreds of them employed as butlers in their villas and can give them a script to follow any day.
  20. As usual, the stats might be interesting but drawing those kind of conclusions from them is imo silly. USA and other big countries poorly performing? They would have to win 300 gold medals per edition to keep up with smaller and poorer nations in those standings. Jamaica the greatest Olympic nation? Nonsense, the Olympics are not only athletics.
  21. Unlike the other sports, it will likely be the only chance I have to watch karate at the Olympics so the choice is easy.
  22. The remaining World Cup events have all been cancelled. The only competions before Tokyo will be the continental qualifiers and maybe the continental championships.
