  3. at the same time, after a few troubles, now Hassan is improving race after race, after she established herself in the Salazar group in Oregon... sorry pal, I couldn't keep myself away from those usual plot theories...
  4. she really deserves some success...among the youth and junior classes she was there with Trost and Kuchina/Lasistskene (well, just behind them), then she had so many injuries that would have led most people to retirement, but she refused to surrender to bad luck and now she's back where she was expected/supposed to be when she was just a young prospect... I really hope that now she can consolidate her perormance at this level and keep herself healty for enough time to take some satisfaction in this sport...
  5. I think Mara was in a slightly better physical shape, which allowed her to be a little more reactive in the final stretch of the assault, being able to land some solo hits and force the double hits when she was in trouble, meanwhile Popescu couldn't do the same... technically I also saw Popescu made a couple of beginners' mistakes not covering very well her feet (Navarria had 2 hits down there) and her left shoulder when trying to land her hits (and in fact Navarria was almost always ready to force the double hit by targeting that area)... add these 2 aspects and you find the small difference between the 2 girls in today's match... that's my point of view...but I'm not a technician, so, if someone (somehow really qualified) has more (or different) issues to explain and discuss, he/she's more than welcome...
  6. Chiccoooooooooooooooo!!!!! what an amazing afternoon...I just can't stop crying... this is one of the highest point of the Italian sport history and Molinari now is by right one of the best Italian athletes ever... this is a weekend we'll never forget...thanks, Chicco... when the wind comes, Carnoustie becomes Carnasty...and the Americans start having troubles (and the British players start shining)... and this time Molinari looked like a native Briton, remaining the only player in the field without a single bogey in the final 2 rounds, which led him to win The Open #147 with a 2-stroke margin over his immediate followers, Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy, Kevin Kisner and Xander Schauffele... Tiger Woods played very well in the first 10 holes (he was leading the field at that moment), but then he had a bad finish and ended up "only" in 6th place (tied with 2 other players), 3 strokes behind Molinari... here is the historical full final leaderboard: https://www.theopen.com/Leaderboard#!/traditional
  7. you can find the link in the second post (sorry for not adding it earlier) of this thread... and a quick medal recap in the previous page (I normally post it once the semifinalists are know and then I update it once I've watched the finals)...
  8. ops...sorry... probably it's me turning 44 in a few days that confused my mind...
  9. another couple of medals for Italy...very successful champs for us, both under the organizing and the competitive point of view...

  12. mental & tactical masterpiece by Navarria...and finally at the age of 34 she gets her first individual medal at a major championship...and it's a Gold medal! congrats to her...well deserved after a dedicated career... p.s. and with today's result she also wins the 2017/2018 World Cup... meanwhile in the men's sabre it's a Korean day, with the master of parèe et resposts, Kim Jung Hwan, who takes advantage by Dershwitz lack of fantasy (and of a plan B) in his tactics...
  13. yes, HUN are the big losers today...they got close, but couldn't finalize (and Szasz's loss to an almost unknown Swiss girl is particularly painful, I guess)...
  14. wow! Kim Jung Hwan beat Gu Bon Gil in the men's sabre quarters... and Russia finally enter the medal table thanks to Ibragimov (who won against Szatmari)... unfortunately Ferjani's run has been stopped by Kim Jun Ho...so, today we have 2 Koreans on the podium... finally, Dershwitz put the USA among the medallists also in the men's division...2 honors for them today...
  15. well, this looks a big payback to me... however I agree, those Countries who don't respect some of the partecipating athletes shouldn't be allowed to host any event at all...
  16. naaa...today we shouldn't risk anything like that...the football champs are still on holiday (and the sub-19 Europeans are scheduled for 5.30 p.m., so when fencing is over)...

  19. I don't know if I should put the loughin' smiley or the sad one...
  20. well, Hurley got many podium finish in the World Cup, so it's not such a big surprise (like Staehli, who beat Szasz in the quarters)...
  21. finally a global medal for her...let's hope she doeasn't stop right now, when things get more "tasty"... p.s. we also have RAISport HD live for the finals (at least they announced it)...
  22. no, I think he's been injured for quite a while right now... I guess (I hope) we'll see him again in the next season...
  23. nothing went right for Italy last night, so Portugal once again beat the Azzurri (4-2 the final score yesterday) and will play their 1599467 Gold Medal match at the European Championships... and as expected, they will face Spain, who destroyed France (8-2 the final score) in the other semifinal match... ITA and FRA will play for the Bronze Medal later Today (5 p.m. CET), meanwhile the big game is scheduled for 7.30 p.m. (always today)... earlier in the day also the consolation finals will be played in La Coruna: ENG vs GER for the 7th place and AND vs SUI for the 5th place...meanwhile the ranking from 9th to 11th place will be determined by the last game of a 3-way round robin, NED vs AUT (so far, NED have won against BEL and AUT vs BEL ended with a tie)...
  24. Chinese Taipei beat the Netherlands 7-5 last night, so they earned the second spot into the Gold Medal match, where they are going to face Japan... the big game is scheduled for Today's afternoon at 2 p.m. CET the Netherlands, instead, end up their tournament in 3rd place...
  25. not all the people have the same character and/or mental strenght...here in Italy we are full of athletes who had an unbelievably long career always on top (look at Vezzali, just to name a fencer)...but Fiamingo isn't one of those, unfortunately for us... however, I still hope for her to get back to her glory days...she's still quite young, especially for a weapon like epee...maybe she's just recharging her batteries before the Tokyo Games...
