  1. Yes, the part in bold is correct, but no one knows if countries will be able to refuse quotas in one criteria and still be allowed to take quotas in a different criteria. The level of confusion is so high that even USA Gymnastics issued an official statement about Jade Carey being mathematically qualified on the floor exercise, but according to what I understand from the rules, she's mathematically qualified on vault. This might seem irrelevant, but it makes a big difference. If USA Gymnastics is right, then it will be +1 for France instead of Italy. If I'm right, it will be +1 for Italy instead of France.
  2. It's hard to predict. Even if he scores 9.000 in execution he will still not reach 15.334. The thing is he scored 9.066 in qualifications here, so he can do that. But it will be extremely hard. The thing is: part of the document states that if a country had two gymnasts already qualified, they can't use their continental quota. However, I didn't find anything stating that they can't refuse the quota. Let's suppose they refuse the Apparatus World Cup quota, so that means that they would have only one extra quota, from the All-Around World Cup series. Then, when applying the rule for the European Championship quota, in this situation, Russia could, in theory, take the quota because they only had one gymnasts officially qualified to the OG before. It's extremely confusing, FIG does a terrible job of explaining how it works and what can and cannot be done, but it would be even more absurd to prevent nations from refusing quotas.
  3. The Apparatus World Cup series has not been finished yet. Only after it is finished, Russia will decide if they will take the quota or not. However, I'd say they will not take the quota. The quota obtained in the Apparatus World Cup series is nominative; this means that it will remain tied to one specific gymnast, and if this gymnast gets injured, say, the day before the Olympics, then Russia would lose this quota. However, since Russia qualified a full team at the 2018 World Championships, the rules state that the quota obtained at the European Championships go to the country. The quota obtained at the All-Around World Cup series also goes to the country. So, unless the rules state that they have to accept the quota obtained at the Apparatus World Cup series -- and I don't think the rules state this anywhere -- they are free to choose the quotas for the country obtained at the All-Around World Cup and at the European Championships, and take whoever they want to the Olympic Games. Update: So, I found the section in the document that mentions this. Apparently, Russia might be obliged to take the quota from the Apparatus World Cup series. However, it's still unclear whether they would lose the right to take the quota from the EC if they refuse the quota from the Apparatur WC series. FIG has the most stupid qualification system I've seen in my life!
  4. Good question. It's dangerous to take anything here as an indication of what will happen at the Olympics, but the fact that all of them had mistakes in their best events should be a warning: they have to focus on being consistent from now on. I wouldn't be worried if the Olympics were to take place in October, but July is just around the corner. Take Petrounias, for example: he has to score 15.334 or better at the Doha World Cup if he wants to go to the Olympics, and he scored 15.366 here. It's too close for comfort, of course, but he's not "training" his way to this event. He's taking it very seriously.
  5. This is why I don't cheer for nations like Turkey or Azerbaijan.
  6. Even with one rotation to go, it's been decided: the Olympic quotas go to and Adem Asil. I'm very surprised with Turkey getting its fourth quota to the Olympics.
  7. Petrov, Bertoncelj, Ude, Tomassone, Whitlock all missed a spot in the pommel horse final. Vecsernyes, Deurloo, Zonderland, Srbic all missed a spot in the horizontal bar final. Reigning world champion Joe Fraser missed the parallel bars final. also had a poor performance overall. Unbelievable. Just unbelievable.
  8. Ohh, the drama! Prokopev kind of bombed his last events and missed out a quota. Adem Asil from scored over 84 and it was a huge surprise. This could very well be enough for Olympic qualification, no question about it. I've never heard about him before!
  9. After all the drama with the scoreboard at the World Championships, I expect him to always bring excitement to the competitions, but THIS is a little too much. LOL.
  10. 15.366 for Petrounias on rings, and that is literally an unbeatable score. The only person that could come close to this score is Liu Yang from China. On the other hand, is having a terrible day. Only 12.766 for Whitlock on the pommel horse, and 13.266 for Fraser on the parallel bars. Tulloch also had a low score on rings, 13.733. is on their way to secure an Olympic quota with Prokopev. has a group of very competent gymnasts. I can see the boys placing in the top 12 as a team for the 2024 Olympics.
  11. So, apparently Larisa Iordache had a fever today. Very dangerous not only to her but to other gymnasts, and somewhat an irresponsible attitude from Romanian officials that could potentially threat all the other gymnasts if she has Covid. Anyway, there's a chance she might miss the event finals, but I'm more worried about her condition right now, and if the other gymnasts are okay, of course.
  12. According to AGU's website, the championships have been canceled. So, this means that Akim Mussayev and Abdulla Azimov should take the Olympic quotas in men's artistic gymnastics. In women's artistic gymnastics the qualifiers are An Chang Ok and Eom Dohyun; however, since North Korea will likely not go to Tokyo, Tan Ing Yueh should be the qualifier. The only one I know from this list is Azimov, who is pretty good on the pommel horse.
  13. I'm calling it: Brazil, France and Honduras. Not confident in the least about this, but one can dream. LOL.
  14. She needs 13.1 on bars. It should be easy for her to qualify.
  15. 13.466. Not bad at all! She might still qualify.
  16. I'm afraid so. I'm almost crying here. This is heartbreaking.
  17. Well, add Brazil to the list of countries which have useless managers at the weightlifting federation. They don't even have a Twitter account. I had to send the question directly to the account linked to the ministry of sports. Crazy. Anyway, thank you for making me aware of that.
  18. The documents state that the scores from qualifications will decide the Olympic qualifiers. Definitely. If we sum up her best scores from last year's Euro, it adds up to 54.999. There's a natural fluctuation of scores between competitions, and the judges on the balance beam seem to be extra-strict this year, but she can do it, no question about it. I'll root for her.
  19. Not anymore, I believe. Urazova 55.299 Maggio 54.398 Morgan 54.032 Ferrari 53.765 Gadirova 53.699 Heduit 53.599
  20. Gadirova might have blown her chances thanks to her disastrous fall off the beam. Bummer. Heduit has a nice score, but definitely beatable. I'll keep an eye on Ferrari too. She might score higher than Heduit, at least, and with Gadirova's low score on beam, Ferrari might as well take the second spot for now. The door is wide open for Iordache, though. She might have it in the bag.
  21. The qualification system is very confusing and I hate it, but at least one thing was clear from the start: the only way to get quotas in the continental championships is through the all-around competition. On the women's side I could see someone like Kovacs pulling off this kind of miracle, but on the men's side? I might be overlooking something here, but I really don't know how.
  22. I don't follow men's gymnastics that much, but the comment above mine covered it well. I'd say , and might have the edge here, but I would not discard and probably and . Among the women, one of the quotas will go to Russia for sure. All four Russians will perform in the all around and three of them are eligible for the quotas. The other quota is hard to predict. The frontrunners are Iordache and Gadirova. and have slim chances. Anyone else would be a huge, huge surprise.
  23. Color me surprised! I thought it was supposed to be one of the huge hits in Iran, but I was wrong! Now, about the difference between World Cup and World Championships, I think most international federations are the ones to blame. They should name the events "Grand Prix", "World Tour", "World Series" or anything like that. "World Cup" immediately alludes to a trophy and of course the first thing anyone thinks is that the winner is the best in the world.
  24. What's the point? She's way ahead of either of them. I'd say Raffaeli and Baldassarri are the top contenders. What happened to Agiugiuculese? She's not on her best days. Neither is Baldassarri, to be honest.
  25. Well, this is my favorite sport along with artistic gymnastics, but I'm always terrible at predictions, LOL. I forgot about mentioning how I think individuals will perform. So, the clear favorite is Dina Averina. The second Russian will be either Arina Averina or Lala Kramarenko. Arina has always been inconsistent, but Lala is still very young. Both are very talented and we'll have to wait until the very last second to know who will be chosen. However, I bet on Arina. The prospect of identical twins competing at the Olympics might be too much for Viner-Usmanova to pass up. Now, if history repeats itself, we'll have a surprising medalist on the podium. It's been like this in recent years: Zhukova in 2008, Charkashina in 2012 and Rizatdinova in 2016. While Ashram is the one everybody expects to succeed, she has a large crowd threatening her at the moment: Kaleyn, Harnasko and Raffaelli could "steal" this medal from Ashram. If we're stretching things here, Salos, Zeng, Kaleyn and Nikolchenko are the ones I expect to see in the top 10. Vedeneeva could also place in the top 10 if she has a fantastic day in qualifications.
