  1. Wait, aren't all equestrian events mixed gender? And there's at least one in sailing, too.
  2. No Lacrosse? I wouldn't vote for it, but still... I voted for Sepaktakraw but in honesty I don't like any of these sports. The Olympics is already too crowded as it is.
  3. As I've written before, this sport deserves this slap on the face. It's bad for the current lifters who are clean, but this should at least put some new perspective into the minds of the presidents of the national federations, and maybe they will think twice when they're faced with the possibility of supporting a tyrannical, corrupt president of an international federation. Even though I'm writing this, I honestly believe very little will change, in the end. Take Brazil, for example: even after being accused of corruption, the president of the national federation has been reelected for another term. The state of weightlifting in Brazil is terrible. Fernando Reis only has decent results because he moved to the US and I think once he gets his green card, he will not represent Brazil in international competitions anymore. I can't blame him. I would do the same, if I were him.
  4. Even though I wish Reis, Asaad, Bidani and Toycyyev could all have a shot at an Olympic medal, I also wish Minasyan somehow gets to compete. He's the only one who comes close to what Talakhadze lifts. We know there's no way Talakhadze can lose, but at least Minasyan brings a little bit of excitement to this category. Now, if Minasyan doesn't compete, even though I'm Brazilian, I'm rooting for Asaad. He's the one with the best recent results in clean and jerk, if I'm not mistaken, so it could be his medal to lose, anyway. But he didn't look great here, while everyone else looks like they can improve substantially, so who knows? It's too bad the World Championships will only be held in November. I wish all of the lifters from small nations could go head to head against one another before the Olympics.
  5. Horrible, horrible, horrible final on the horizontal bar. I expected a poor showing after many of the great gymnasts failed to qualify, but this was still beyond atrocious. Definitely not the level of gymnastics I expected from this competition. Still, congratulations to the medalists.
  6. What an "unfortunate" last name for Andreas Toba. Toba is a slang for a**hole in Brazilian Portuguese.
  7. She should be happy with this result. She doesn't have the difficulty to challenge for an Olympic medal, and the next code of points will be horrible for her, so don't be surprised if she decides to retire after the Olympics. Gold for Gadirova on floor! Yay! FINALLY Melnikova was not awarded an unrealistic score for her sloppy floor routine. Ferrari with the bronze medal is not something I'm excited about, especially because her execution was not good, but kudos to her for winning a medal at such an "old" age for this sport. No medals for France is kind of sad, but not exactly unexpected. Poor Heduit. I hope she's not seriously injured. I like her style a lot and I hope she goes to Tokyo.
  8. Not super impressed with the results here. Davoudi is in good shape, but he did merely enough to get the three gold medals. Still, I'd say he's the favorite for the silver medal at the Olympics, but I wouldn't be surprised if he bombs out. Man Asaad looks like he's at his limit, but you never know. He has pulled off huge surprises before. Toycyyev didn't even win a small medal here. I'm baffled. The fact that Yang Zhe would have won a medal in the +109 kg event is mind blowing. It's kind of sad that Minasyan, Lalayan, Aleksanyan, Turmanidze and Ziaziulin will not compete at the Olympics. The level will not be so high without them. Reis, Asaad and Bidani should be the ones who will fight for the bronze medal, and Toycyyev will have to improve considerably to be part of this conversation.
  9. I hate the current code of points for allowing Radivilov to keep winning medals with such horrible vaults. His pike position is so atrocious it should count as tuck (and that would lower the difficulty of the vault, too). Also, he lands with the chest super low -- that alone is a 0.5 deduction -- but, somehow, he still gets gold. UGH. And the balance beam final was not as bad as I expected. Bachynska went from 10th to bronze medal, and MDJDS won by the smallest possible margin. I can't complain.
  10. At this point, zero, unfortunately. If the Asian Championships indeed take place, then chances would be very low, but still better than zero, of course. The problem is that continental championships qualify gymnasts through the all-around, and India has always been a country focused on apparatus specialists. So, India's best chance was the World Cup series, but apparently Dipa Karmakar got injured and no other Indian gymnast was prepared to challenge for a stop in the top 10, so no chance this year, unfortunately.
  11. Thank you! I'm kind of bored until the second day of the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships starts, but I guess both events will start right at the same time. I'll watch group B while I wait for the live events today.
  12. Has the men's +109 kg competition started? Where can I watch it, please?
  13. Here: https://www.agu-gymnastics.com/. Click on "copy of AGU calendar 2021-2024". The document was uploaded on April 19th, so it's the most recent information we have. Now, it's important to note that there is an active link on the website stating that the Asian Championships will take place on May 29th in a different city in China, but I believe it's just a leftover link they forgot to delete. Anyway, conflicting information on their own website... Expected, given the federation is a mess, but still frustrating.
  14. 190 kg in snatch for Fernando. Good enough for gold at the Pan Ams, but not enough for an Olympic medal. Let's see how he does in clean and jerk now.
  15. The Asian Championships have been canceled. But it's wrong: the qualified male gymnasts are from and . Not .
  16. I'm sure it will receive at least one of the tripartite invitations, but I don't know if it will be in women's artistic gymnastics or in rhythmic gymnastics.
  17. It's tragic and funny at the same time. On the one hand, the lifters brought this to themselves with widespread doping offenses and a free pass to a corrupt president, but on the other hand it's unfair to those who are clean now. Well, I'm not sorry. This sport needs this kind of slap on the face.
  18. Huge surprise on the pommel horse. Gold for Davtyan! I like his style, but it was clear that he needed 10+ gymnasts to fall, among qualification and finals, so he could get gold, and... well, that's just what happened. Talk about winning the lottery here. But, of course, he is the one who managed to stay on the apparatus, so it's a huge achievement for him.
  19. With this score, I'm sure he's a contender. But of course I was referring to an extra quota, so someone else could be sent to the Olympics too.
  20. Nice surprise. If only Kovtun had done this yesterday... A medal is nice, but the Olympic quota would have been great as well.
  21. I'm really sad with what happened to Pihan. Now that she would probably have a chance to go to the balance beam final, she had to sustain a career-ending injury during the all-around competition. What bad luck. Now, about the all-around competition, I don't want to be salty but I can't stand Melnikova receving scores she doesn't deserve anymore. She's awarded medals she should never, ever, receive. Two falls and a silver medal thrown on her lap. Disgusting.
  22. I'm guilty of only slightly caring about volleyball and football because it's what TV networks show in Brazil and what I've grown up watching. Basketball and handball are those "alternative" sports, and all the others are virtually nonexistent in the country. Among the sports that are usually not shown on TV in Brazil, Rugby sevens is the most interesting to me, but of course it's still far from being a successful professional sport in Brazil. I've never even watched a baseball or field hockey match in my life. Even at the Olympics, TV networks usually will not show water polo matches, despite the fact that it was a somewhat popular sport in Brazil around 50 or 60 years ago.
  23. The leotards/outfits used by Germany are known as unitards. They used to be popular in rhythmic gymnastics, but in recent years I only remember Japan and Ukraine using them.
  24. At least they got the colors right.
