  1. At this point, zero, unfortunately. If the Asian Championships indeed take place, then chances would be very low, but still better than zero, of course. The problem is that continental championships qualify gymnasts through the all-around, and India has always been a country focused on apparatus specialists. So, India's best chance was the World Cup series, but apparently Dipa Karmakar got injured and no other Indian gymnast was prepared to challenge for a stop in the top 10, so no chance this year, unfortunately.
  2. Thank you! I'm kind of bored until the second day of the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships starts, but I guess both events will start right at the same time. I'll watch group B while I wait for the live events today.
  3. Has the men's +109 kg competition started? Where can I watch it, please?
  4. Here: https://www.agu-gymnastics.com/. Click on "copy of AGU calendar 2021-2024". The document was uploaded on April 19th, so it's the most recent information we have. Now, it's important to note that there is an active link on the website stating that the Asian Championships will take place on May 29th in a different city in China, but I believe it's just a leftover link they forgot to delete. Anyway, conflicting information on their own website... Expected, given the federation is a mess, but still frustrating.
  5. 190 kg in snatch for Fernando. Good enough for gold at the Pan Ams, but not enough for an Olympic medal. Let's see how he does in clean and jerk now.
  6. The Asian Championships have been canceled. But it's wrong: the qualified male gymnasts are from and . Not .
  7. I'm sure it will receive at least one of the tripartite invitations, but I don't know if it will be in women's artistic gymnastics or in rhythmic gymnastics.
  8. It's tragic and funny at the same time. On the one hand, the lifters brought this to themselves with widespread doping offenses and a free pass to a corrupt president, but on the other hand it's unfair to those who are clean now. Well, I'm not sorry. This sport needs this kind of slap on the face.
  9. Huge surprise on the pommel horse. Gold for Davtyan! I like his style, but it was clear that he needed 10+ gymnasts to fall, among qualification and finals, so he could get gold, and... well, that's just what happened. Talk about winning the lottery here. But, of course, he is the one who managed to stay on the apparatus, so it's a huge achievement for him.
  10. With this score, I'm sure he's a contender. But of course I was referring to an extra quota, so someone else could be sent to the Olympics too.
  11. Nice surprise. If only Kovtun had done this yesterday... A medal is nice, but the Olympic quota would have been great as well.
  12. I'm really sad with what happened to Pihan. Now that she would probably have a chance to go to the balance beam final, she had to sustain a career-ending injury during the all-around competition. What bad luck. Now, about the all-around competition, I don't want to be salty but I can't stand Melnikova receving scores she doesn't deserve anymore. She's awarded medals she should never, ever, receive. Two falls and a silver medal thrown on her lap. Disgusting.
  13. I'm guilty of only slightly caring about volleyball and football because it's what TV networks show in Brazil and what I've grown up watching. Basketball and handball are those "alternative" sports, and all the others are virtually nonexistent in the country. Among the sports that are usually not shown on TV in Brazil, Rugby sevens is the most interesting to me, but of course it's still far from being a successful professional sport in Brazil. I've never even watched a baseball or field hockey match in my life. Even at the Olympics, TV networks usually will not show water polo matches, despite the fact that it was a somewhat popular sport in Brazil around 50 or 60 years ago.
  14. The leotards/outfits used by Germany are known as unitards. They used to be popular in rhythmic gymnastics, but in recent years I only remember Japan and Ukraine using them.
  15. At least they got the colors right.
  16. Yes, the part in bold is correct, but no one knows if countries will be able to refuse quotas in one criteria and still be allowed to take quotas in a different criteria. The level of confusion is so high that even USA Gymnastics issued an official statement about Jade Carey being mathematically qualified on the floor exercise, but according to what I understand from the rules, she's mathematically qualified on vault. This might seem irrelevant, but it makes a big difference. If USA Gymnastics is right, then it will be +1 for France instead of Italy. If I'm right, it will be +1 for Italy instead of France.
  17. It's hard to predict. Even if he scores 9.000 in execution he will still not reach 15.334. The thing is he scored 9.066 in qualifications here, so he can do that. But it will be extremely hard. The thing is: part of the document states that if a country had two gymnasts already qualified, they can't use their continental quota. However, I didn't find anything stating that they can't refuse the quota. Let's suppose they refuse the Apparatus World Cup quota, so that means that they would have only one extra quota, from the All-Around World Cup series. Then, when applying the rule for the European Championship quota, in this situation, Russia could, in theory, take the quota because they only had one gymnasts officially qualified to the OG before. It's extremely confusing, FIG does a terrible job of explaining how it works and what can and cannot be done, but it would be even more absurd to prevent nations from refusing quotas.
  18. The Apparatus World Cup series has not been finished yet. Only after it is finished, Russia will decide if they will take the quota or not. However, I'd say they will not take the quota. The quota obtained in the Apparatus World Cup series is nominative; this means that it will remain tied to one specific gymnast, and if this gymnast gets injured, say, the day before the Olympics, then Russia would lose this quota. However, since Russia qualified a full team at the 2018 World Championships, the rules state that the quota obtained at the European Championships go to the country. The quota obtained at the All-Around World Cup series also goes to the country. So, unless the rules state that they have to accept the quota obtained at the Apparatus World Cup series -- and I don't think the rules state this anywhere -- they are free to choose the quotas for the country obtained at the All-Around World Cup and at the European Championships, and take whoever they want to the Olympic Games. Update: So, I found the section in the document that mentions this. Apparently, Russia might be obliged to take the quota from the Apparatus World Cup series. However, it's still unclear whether they would lose the right to take the quota from the EC if they refuse the quota from the Apparatur WC series. FIG has the most stupid qualification system I've seen in my life!
  19. Good question. It's dangerous to take anything here as an indication of what will happen at the Olympics, but the fact that all of them had mistakes in their best events should be a warning: they have to focus on being consistent from now on. I wouldn't be worried if the Olympics were to take place in October, but July is just around the corner. Take Petrounias, for example: he has to score 15.334 or better at the Doha World Cup if he wants to go to the Olympics, and he scored 15.366 here. It's too close for comfort, of course, but he's not "training" his way to this event. He's taking it very seriously.
  20. This is why I don't cheer for nations like Turkey or Azerbaijan.
  21. Even with one rotation to go, it's been decided: the Olympic quotas go to and Adem Asil. I'm very surprised with Turkey getting its fourth quota to the Olympics.
  22. Petrov, Bertoncelj, Ude, Tomassone, Whitlock all missed a spot in the pommel horse final. Vecsernyes, Deurloo, Zonderland, Srbic all missed a spot in the horizontal bar final. Reigning world champion Joe Fraser missed the parallel bars final. also had a poor performance overall. Unbelievable. Just unbelievable.
  23. Ohh, the drama! Prokopev kind of bombed his last events and missed out a quota. Adem Asil from scored over 84 and it was a huge surprise. This could very well be enough for Olympic qualification, no question about it. I've never heard about him before!
  24. After all the drama with the scoreboard at the World Championships, I expect him to always bring excitement to the competitions, but THIS is a little too much. LOL.
