They have the right to send one individual gymnast no matter where their gymnasts place in the all-around. But this was a rough competition. They will not qualify a full team for sure, which is sad. Not even Lytwyn could have saved them after this disastrous performance. The top 20 countries represented by 1 or 2 gymnasts (i.e., not teams) in the all-around will qualify for sure. Other individual quotas may be given depending on a few things (Romania qualifying a full team, for example). Since we have had 12 countries competing with individuals so far, there are still 20 countries to go and no one is officially qualified yet. But I'd say COL, ARM, CRO and AZE will qualify for sure. LTU, POR and GRE have a good shot. ARG is in trouble now, but Nicolas can still make it.

Germany is doing great so far. Canada is in trouble.

Pauline Schaefer is apparently injured and will not be able to compete at the Test Event. This is a huge blow for Germany.

Dipa didn't perform her routines at the World Championships last year to the best of her ability. If she has a good day with no falls from any of the apparatus, she will make it to Rio.

He wouldn't stand much of a chance of qualifying with the level of the field, to be honest. Dipa, on the other hand, has a big chance on her hands. She only needs to finish the competition outside of the bottom three, if things go the way I believe they will.

Sorry for the double post, but I think this is important and deserves its own post: the folks from Gimnasia Latina told me that North Korea also decided not to send a male gymnast to the Test Event, so India will be able to sendo both a male and a female gymnast. Unfortunately they don't know whether India will indeed send both gymnasts or not. Could our Indian friends get any info on that?

Now we have the complete list of Latin-American gymnasts who will attend the Test Event. Only Colombia was not sure of who should go to the Test Event, but unsurprisingly they have chosen Catalina Escobar (gold medal on vault at the 2010 South American Games and bronze medal on vault at the 2011 Pan American Games). The Test Event will be Holbura's first major international meet, and good luck counting on her in this nervewrecking situation. Jurca and Zarzu are not exactly "talented" gymnasts. They are mediocre at best. Bulimar severely lacks consistency, Ponor does not perform on the uneven bars (arguably the worst apparatus for Romania). And the Romanian team will perform on the very first subdivision, what usually equals to lower scores.

I don't think Switzerland has any chance to qualify a full team. Steingruber is not on her best days, and the other girls are relatively weak. South Korea also has a weak team, and they rely too much on one single gymnast (Yun Narae), which is never a good idea.

Now, if Romania doesn't qualify a full team, both Iordache and Ponor will be automatically not eligible for the Olympics. Only gymnasts who perform on all four apparatus in the Test Event can apply for the spot at the Olympics. I hope and pray Romania gets one of the team quotas. I want to see Iordache and Ponor in Rio!

Brazil, Germany and France, for sure. Belgium has lost one of their best gymnasts, and Australia will see the return of Lauren Mitchell, so they will fight for the final team quota with Romania. It's insane that at this point Romania will depend on Catalina Ponor once again. And she doesn't perform on the worst apparatus for the team, Uneven Bars, so the team will have trouble reaching an acceptable score on this apparatus.

Iordache has broken one of her fingers. Romania is in deep trouble now. I don't think they will be able to qualify a full team at this point.

Nope. They had two spots because they placed 17th-24th with their women's team.

Still no word about it, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Besides, depending on which countries qualify a full team through the test event, individuals from the eight lowest ranked countries in the individual all-around competition may not qualify. On the women's side, things are much easier. In the worst case scenario, individuals from the two lowest ranked countries will not qualify. I don't think Dipa would finish last, or second last. So, I believe she has a HUGE opportunity to qualify if she really makes it to the Test Event.

We can always check the results in Wikipedia, unless it's a really obscure competition. And the new format is much better.

This article says that Colombia has formally received an invitation for the Test Event, since North Korea gave up their two quotas. This means that India gets the second invitation, I believe. Great news for Dipa!

One of my friends said that North Korea and Colombia will not send girls to the Test Event. Does this mean that Dipa Karmakar of India could make it to the competition? The definitive registrations have been released, so I'm not sure they would allow any changes now, but that would be AMAZING for India if she could sneak in somehow. Any news about that?

Thanks. No participation from the host nation? We had a rough time at the PanAms, so I guess the experience from the Test Event would have come in handy for the Brazilian team before the Olympics.

I am trying to follow the event, but there's little to no information available in Brazil. This is a shame. What countries are taking part in the team competition?

It's nice to see the forum up and running. I hope everything is back to normal by the time the Rio Olympics starts.
