  1. Tumbling would not be a new sport or even a new discipline at the Olympics. It would merely be another event in trampoline. It's FIG's fault it's not part of the Olympics.
  2. Rhythmic gymnastics: out with the groups, in with mixed duets. Of course this would have been tough as this event has merely been shown as a gala event with no real competition so far. Trampoline: out with individual trampoline, in with a "trampoline all-around" with tumbling, individual trampoline and double mini trampoline being competed by the same person. Once again, this is not a real event, but it would have been a lot more exciting than the current format, especially because individual trampoline is very boring, in my opinion. Artistic swimming: out with duets, in with mixed duets. Football: out with the traditional association football on field, in with beach soccer. Wrestling: out with the old mat event, in with beach wrestling. I hate this sport anyway, so any change would be welcome. Swimming: out with the 1500 m events, in with team 5 km open water, but with the format used a few years ago where swimmers would basically race against the clock. I liked it a lot, but I'm probably the only person in the world who wants it at the Olympics.
  3. Sports climbing - Acrobatic gymnastics Golf - Aerobic gymnastics Artistic swimming - Parkour Yes, I'm totally biased towards gymnastics, but I'm sure everybody expects this.
  4. Yes, I agree, but unless something drastic occurs, there's no point for letting Vera van Pol go to the Olympics. I kind of understand Eythora and Lieke Wevers, and being extremely pragmatic there's a reason why Sanne Wevers was chosen -- even though her chances are minimal this time. Maybe they're "hiding" something with Vera van Pol? It will be interesting to see.
  5. So, Netherlands went the "we're trying a shot in the dark for individual medals" route with their women's team, and basically sacrificed any chance of reaching team finals. Sanne Wevers did not deserve to qualify, and it must be heartbreaking for Elze Geurts, who deserved to qualify, to stay home while someone will go to the Olympics in 2021 for what she did in 2016. Naomi Visser also deserved to qualify ahead of Vera van Pol. Really, what a weird choice. Nothing makes sense.
  6. No. Their own NOC claimed they had one, and told their gymnast she was going to Tokyo. Imagine how heartbreaking it must be for her now.
  7. has been confirmed. I guess this wraps up the qualification process. Finally.
  8. Not exactly. Ana Luiza Filiorianu is a prime example of how dangerous rhythmic gymnastics can be, and it looks like Dina Averina has been suffering with injuries that Russia is desperately trying to hide. It might not be as risky as artistic gymnastics, but it's not "a lot" safer in any way.
  9. Kharenkova is recovering from injury. I'm not sure she would take the quota. But why would FIG refuse to award the quota to ? Their gymnast is very limited, but she doesn't do anything dangerous to her own health. And I don't think would refuse this quota.
  10. is the only eligible nation for a tripartite quota now. There's absolutely no reason for FIG not to award the quota to the nation.
  11. No word yet. FIG's document only shows a TBC next to the tripartite invitation, but at least we know and indeed qualified, and the claims from to qualify were false, since the nation is not eligible for a tripartite quota.
  12. She is the new Ethiene Franco. It's bizarre that a person who cannot contribute in any way to the team was chosen over someone who realistically could: Skinner. Anyway, I'm glad Skinner at least got the individual quota, but it will not be easy for her to get a medal. Unless, of course, she beats Jade Carey on vault. Carey should have no problems trying to get a medal on floor, if her foot heals quickly, that is.
  13. I'd take Mykayla Skinner and the individual spot could go to either Wong or McCusker. McCallum unfortunately adds nothing to the team. She will be a good first alternate, though. If McCallum makes the team, then give the individual quota to Skinner, please.
  14. The US women's team will be announced in a few minutes. In a shocking event, Biles lost an all-around competition for the first time since 2013. Sunisa Lee scored more than Biles today. This is an unofficial win by Lee because the scores from day 1 and day 2 are combined in the US trials, and Biles is ahead with the combined scores, but Lee unofficially winning today is huge.
  15. Rhythmic gymnastics: Once again, PAGU never published the complete team results. This is how I assume the results are, according to the documents they did share: Individuals: 2 gymnasts 1 gymnast Groups: as the host nation will be allowed to send one group, despite not qualifying here. didn't take part at the competition because the gymnasts were denied entry in Guatemala. As far as I know, there has been a promise of giving Brazil one individual quota, at least. Not sure about a group quota, but this might be possible, too.
  16. He's the most inconsistent gymnast I've seen in my life. His nerves always get the best of him. Besides, he's reaching a point where his age will begin to be a big factor in his performances, and this is aggravating. It's not like he's gotten any better as the years went by. On the contrary...
  17. Mikulak. No, seriously. Anyway, maybe he will prove me wrong, but now I'd say I consider him a waste of time.
  18. You're right! So that means 14.748 for Yonekura and 14.771 for Jeah-wan. Now, how come the official event informed that Yonekura has qualified?
  19. He tied Jean-wan, so it comes down to the average scores in all of the stages of the World Cup series. What we might have forgotten to add is that Jeah-wan scored 14.066 today and this pulled his average way down. So, @MHSN, it looks like Saeid Reza Keikha has qualified to Tokyo!
  20. Okay, this is awkward. So, have we done our calculations wrong?
  21. What a long, boring, convoluted, needlessly complicated qualification system. I'm glad it's finally over. Or is it? According to FIG's documents, China can't choose which gymnast will qualify through the World Cup quota, but if China somehow is given the right to choose and decide to pick Weng Hao over You Hao, this will make things even more complicated. For starters, will lose a quota. Then, the next qualifier in the parallel bars is Poliashov. I suspect Russia will decline this quota because it's better for them to just take the quota from the European Championships. However, if Russia takes this quota, then they will not allowed to qualify anyone through the European Championships and the quota instead goes to Nicola Bartolini. Now, if Russia declines the Apparatus World Cup quota, next in line would be Mitchell Morgan. In the end, I believe China will have to take You Hao as a specialist no matter what and this will probably hurt the team's prospects because he was expected to compete in the parallel bars and rings. Liu Yang might make the team instead, but in a 4-person team he's not going to be very useful. Of course Yang could take the individual spot China got through the all-around World Cup series, but then Weng Hao would miss a real chance of a medal in the pommel horse. It's going to be a tough decision for China, but unfortunately it's the result of a very risky choice to skip the Doha World Cup entirely.
  22. I can't believe he will miss the Olympics because he scored just 0.071 less than he needed. This is heartbreaking.
