  1. As inconsistent as it is, Mank ticks all the boxes. Don't forget that movies about Hollywood always get extra praise. Just to reiterate how inconsistent it is... The movie spends its entire run bashing Hearst and Co.... And yet it still portrays Orson Welles as nothing more than an arrogant man-child - keeping alive Hearst's aggressive narrative and legacy.
  2. Mank getting most Golden Globes noms says it all. The film that shamelessly preaches about Hollywood being bad for its involement in politics (but during the 1930s - for the Republicans). As a film alone, it's just really boring and unimaginative.
  3. Well, I would disagree. Biathlon is about skiing/shooting combo. Penalty loops are flat, so relatively speaking, women do not lose as much time to men compared to downhills and especially climbs. So unless penalty loops are made bigger for women, skiing will become (even) more important than shooting. Aside from being inconvenient, using different penalty loops will again bring up the distance inequality, so there is no reason to change it. As for the individual, 1 min of penalty can be made up considerably more easily in a 55 min-race than in a 45 min-race.
  4. Will Totallympians receive warnings for using the R word instead of RBF and such?
  5. Yeah, just ask Sweden, Norway, France, Germany, RBF...
  6. So a penalty loop for the women will be much less influential than the usual. Always great to have something untested at big events.
  7. Quite possible he was not able to go over the jumps in training so he gave up.
  8. To follow up on these Chinese downhillers, it appears it all started last year... https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/general/results.html?sectorcode=AL&competitorid=178959&raceid=103606 Basically, a couple of Austrian and Italian skiers arrived to China with an aim of lowering FIS points? It all seems like a scheme a la Project Bogota. But this is China, so nobody will get punished, of course.
  9. This complaints are already giving me some serious Aare vibes. Remember those conditions? Whatever happens in Cortina is an improvement by default.
  10. Implication being that Brazil is ahead at this point?
  11. Too bad it turned out this way. Women's combined going first would have given it some much needed extra publicity.
  12. Where is Kližan?
  13. Who knows, maybe he inspired fellow scammers.
  14. Oh, wow. Chinese athletes are getting some uber inflated points on their 70 seconds long downhills. https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/general/results.html?sectorcode=AL&raceid=108586
  15. Chill, the start list only had like 5 starters less than the average for women's combined. Considering the pandemic, countless cancelled events (speed events, in particular). and so on, it is a very good number. Croatian team for example will skip all the speed events, including combined events, which is unprecedented. It's because they all had limited speed training and are not willing to risk injuries (like so many this season)...
  16. Meanwhile in Rijeka...
  17. @heywoodu Any chance to see that outdoor/canal speed skating race this year? Forecast for Amsterdam.
  18. Pretty convincing win for the boys.
  19. Race cancelled.
  20. This is becoming utterly bizarre. Clocks started showing Romania as 45 seconds off the pace. And to top it all off, Romania finally failed to hit the finish paddle.!
  21. And now the gate opened early for Romania. They went from +1 second behind to -3 seconds ahead.
  22. Hard to explain what is going on exactly, but one thing is sure, Swiss clocks are not getting good publicity today. Americans started the relay. Gates opened for Mazdzer/Terdiman before West hit the paddle. Following that, the finish time got recorded the whole curve before the actual finish.
  23. Geisenberger 17th (+1,200)
