Swimming Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024
Cinnamon Bun replied to Totallympics's topic in Swimming
Peda (100m Fly) and Sieradzki (200m Free) can both still get invited to compete individually via OCT. Both have a decent chance but Peda is more likely than Sieradzki due to her higher rank. -

It wasn't, he got in via being invited as one of the highest ranked with an OCT time (Re: the top part of my list Pasolini quoted above). -

This now means that the following athletes have also been invited to the games via OCT along with those aforementioned athletes ranked 1-6 in my list: ( - Martine Damborg - Women's 100m Fly - 871 points) - Santiago Grassi - Men’s 100m Fly - 870 points - Agostina Hein - Women’s 800m Free - 863 points - Francisca Soares Martins - Women’s 400m Free - 858 points - Ali Khalafalla - Men’s 50m Free - 856 points - John Shortt - Men's 200m Back - 855 points - Ching Hwee Gan - Women’s 1500m Free - 852 points -

She also has the standard in the 50m Free so either what I said earlier is happening or what was said about point 10 is happening instead. I'm leaning more towards the latter but we won't truly know until a non Universality country athlete has won a quota without obtaining the OQT or OCT standards. -

In the Men's 100m Free, would get in via Chowaniec with OCT and not Majerski. However, when it comes to Fiedkiewicz, she the highest ranked in the Women's 100m but she doesn't have the OQT or OCT. I read over the qualification rules and, from how I interpret, she must've gotten in with a rejected Women's 100m Free, rejected OCT or unused universality quota through being one of the highest ranked athletes not individually qualified and without any OQT and OCT times. -

AIN have supposedly rejected all their quotas, so it's more likely that 1 universality or Oceania Continental Quota () has been rejected. -

Cheers mate. Wow are just as bad in swimming as are in athletics when it comes to accepting quotas. -
The problem isn't the the music, it's the animation style as well as the bland storytelling throughout the trailer and the annoying voiceover. Out of all the ones since 2008 this is definitely the worst and hasn't got me more excited for the games. It seems the BBC have put more money and effort into the Euros trailer than they have this. This is how I'd rank all the trailers since '08: 1. Rio 2. Tokyo 3. London 4. Beijing 5. Paris

I know it's pretty pointless now since the marathon qualification ended months ago and half the athletes on here have already been mentioned but since I feel it'd be stupid of me not to finish this off after a year and a half of doing it here are the final marathon runners who got the standard since I last updated my list on 9th April: Men Amanal Petros Boaz Kipkemei Abdi Nageeye Amedework Walelegn Birhanu Legese Kenneth Kiprop Kipkemoi Enock Onchari Lameck Too Godadaw Belachew Sisay Lemma Mohamed Esa Evans Chebet John Korir Albert Korir Chala Regasa Bernard Kiprop Koesch Haymanot Alew Philemon Kiplimo Ronald Korir Tsedat Abeje Ayana Oqpe Kibrom Reusom Brimin Kipkorir Getaneh Molla Alexander Munyao Kenenisa Bekele Emile Cairess Mahamed Mahamed Hassan Chahdi Women Domenika Mayer Sharon Jemutai Cherop Ashete Bekere Viola Jelagat Kibiwot Selly Chepyego Kaptich Emily Chebet Kipchumba Pascalia Jepkogei Thalia Valdivia Sisay Meseret Gola Maor Tiyouri Zhanna Mamazhanova Hellen Obiri Sharon Lokedi Edna Ngeringwony Kiplagat Buze Diriba Senberre Teferi Nazret Weldu Faith Chepkoech Rahma Tahiri Kaoutar Farkoussi Irine Chepet Cheptai Winfridah Moseti Gotytom Gebreslase Jackline Cherono Aminet Ahmed Cynthia Jerotich Daiana Ocampo Kidsan Alema Naomi Jebet Peres Chepchirchir Tigst Assefa Joyciline Jepkosgei Megertu Alemu Brigid Kosgei Sheila Chepkirui Tigist Ketema Yalemzerf Yahulehaw Ruth Chepngetich Tsige Haileslase -

Campbell hurt her back at trials so might not be fit to compete anyway. As for Lally, she's been long overdue an Olympic berth (12 years to be exact) and this might've been her last true shot to do so. -

In most cases our athletes aren't even scrapping in, in fact they're doing more than enough to ensure their in one of the ranking spots. The fact that Buckner and UKA don't even see this and treat the rankings as a B standard is disgraceful and should be called out by some of the pundits working on the athletics at the Olympics (which they won't). -

The following athletes will have their rankings rejected by Jack Buckner and UKA: Jake Norris (Men's Hammer) Anna Purchase (Women's Hammer) Kenneth Ikeji (Men's Hammer) Jade Lally (Women's Discus) Hannah Nuttall (Women's 5000m) Phil Norman (Men's 3000m Steeplechase) Zac Seddon (Men's 3000m Steeplechase) Aimme Campbell (Women's Shot Put) -

Sorry for the delay again, here is the revised list of OCT qualifiers with relay only swimmers added. All the athletes in brackets, relay only swimmers, will qualify for the games once the swimmer next to them is invited to participate. The reason for this is because they don't count twice on the total athlete count, meaning once the non relay only OCT above them has qualified any relay only OCT below them can also be accepted as they don't take any places away from other non relay only OCT athletes. -

Of course there needs to be a standard but it needs to be realistic to the standard of athletes who have a shot at getting in via the rankings. Some of the times set by UKA and Jack Bucknall have been ridiculous and unrealistic, in some cases they were expecting athletes to make times that would put them in the top 10 in the world this year. They think that we're a powerhouse in athletics like we somewhat are in swimming by using a system like this, but we're not. We also don't have the strength in depth like we do in swimming, which leaves events like the Javelin and Triple Jump absolutely crippled with no opportunity to get experience, progress or grow on an international level. And in terms of giving opportunities to athletes who are gonna "bomb out" in the heats or qualifying, not only does it give those athletes experience at a major games which can help them become more successful in the long run but it also makes it look stronger as an athletics nation by having different competitors in a variety of different events and it gives young athletes watching at home British athletes that can inspire to be like and strive to match and better their accomplishments. -

I think relays will push us over 60 but in terms of individual athletes we may struggle to reach 50 which is unacceptable. Only UKA to blame, with them setting OQT times as UKA standard times in events where it's turned out that less than a third of qualified athletes will qualify via getting the OQT. -

There's surely grounds for a good and positive appeal for both Norman and Nuttall. 0.15 in a steeplechase is equivalent to 0.01 in a 100m and 0.65 in a 5000m is equivalent to 0.05 in a 100m. It's also not like they've not been consistently close to the UKA standard either so if there are a good amount of spots left open (which there should be) I see no reason not to take them to get us up to at least 50 athletes. -

Right OK, that seems a fair understanding. I'll try to edit them in with brackets but it could look a little confusing a mess up the order of some of the athletes.
