  1. I saw it once - it was odd as the commentators took their break before the final so it was odd to watch. I wonder if GB will qualify a team in 2024 ( as the commentators said it’s being introduced in Paris) for it - joint second in total medals won in the sport this year means the depth to try and qualify and even challenge for a medal is there,
  2. Apparently the meeting of the Japanese Government involved discussing it - and Biden put out a statement which came across as if it was him urging them not to cancel it. Any country improving their medal total this time will be a big achievement with the return of Russia (RPC). is expected to win up to 50 medals less - the swimming squad is nit expected to perform as well as before and the Athletics and cycling squad are majority not first time Paralympian’s which brings experience but also the effects of aging. at the last Paralympics didn’t win a single gold despite wining 24 medals. The performance of will be important in building a successful games in three years time.
  3. That sounds very messy and confusing and won’t even work on tv very well.
  4. And for some events a lot of times from the Olympics have already helped fill up places
  5. I wonder how many countries will get the ability to use a wild card for a defending champion and get a bigger team in an event.
  6. When will Weighlifting know for certain it is still going to be in Paris.
  7. Rumours that the Paralympics will be cancelled this week due to cases rising in Tokyo and the government popularity continuing to drop.
  8. I wonder if they will be a review of the funding made in December - it looks bizarre swimming has had its funding cut just when more is needed to help develop the next generation of elite British swimmers to follow this one.
  9. Turkey seems to have mostly stopped the buying in - most of the ones that were in Tokyo have been around for a while now.
  10. Also Boxing avoided any major judging controversies of the like seen in previous games which surely helps its survival chances
  11. I wonder if the fact a lot of weightlifting medals were won by powerful nations will help save it for 2024. China in particular has little strength in most new events or sports and removing weightlifting will likely secure the USA at the top for Paris let alone LA which I doubt they will be in a hurry to support.
  12. She is another strong contender as well - suspect both will be involved in the ceremony.
  13. I think Riner must be a contender to light the flame in three years time.
  14. For any events you fail or can’t afford to get tickets for try the Paralympics. It was how I got to experience the main stadium during the London Olympics at an incredible cheap price for a night packed with finals and royal guests,
  15. I still can’t get over how Japan lost that with the success they had in the individual events.
  16. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2021/aug/08/uk-athletics-christian-malcolm-defends-performance-at-tokyo-2020 With how Team GB has a habit of meeting dramatic sporting predictions I am not ruling out GB getting near that ridiculous target Christian Malcom has predicted.
  17. Indirect qualifications start this year for some team events - like with the Women’s football to make the UEFA quotas a team has to be among the top three European games at the 2023 World Cup. The qualification draw for that has been done and the first matches are next month.
  18. The BBC said weather conditions caused it to be cancelled but the world record will stand after a test event in June.
  19. They have said he won the fencing in 1976 so many times it is like a parody.
  20. More athletes there than expected - through like with the opening ceremony not exactly many Team GB ones there due to GB not being strong in team events to fill the numbers.
  21. Wow at Jason Kenny and Lauren Price. And British Athletics still needs a rethink because why did they let Callum Hawkins run with a bad ankle injury when injured marathon runners never manage to have successful races.
  22. Are they giving both the Marathon medals in the stadium?
  23. If Somalia could p get its act together and become a functioning country it could one day challenge Ethiopia and Kenya like Uganda is now starting to.
  24. I think Kenya might well end up with a clean sweep which would be remarkable.
  25. I think this will be the worst GB performance in the marathon since 1980. It will be hard for Hawkins to bounce back to try for a top 15 or so in Eugene or Budapest or Paris.
