  1. Appalling night overnight. Has anything significant gone GB’s way so far? Does not feel like it. The Target of 45 medals slips further and further away.
  2. Did someone in Gb curse the rowing gods? Five fourth places must be some sort of sad record for a games. Easy to see Paris and LA being worse through as I can see GB rowing getting a major shock when funding is reduced to well below what they thought was even the worse nightmare.
  3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/57995446 Might be no Team GB in Paris due to funding cuts and tensions between the English, Scottish and Welsh governing boards.
  4. A very low scoring final - the winning score is wwell under 90 for the first time since the scoring changed. Back in 2016 the commentators in the UK were always going about how big it was for Max Whitlock to break 90 and how if Joe Frazier could get 88 he would be able to dream of a medal but in fact that would have secured one.
  5. If she had pulled out before appearing at the games then that could make sense - but pulling out mid team final because of that feels very unlikely.
  6. Duncan Scott looks exhausted after the relay and 200m. Doesn’t look like a medal contender really for GB.
  7. The build up to Athletics points more towards a rowing level of performance. Cycling is more unpredictable due to GB having a long history of only being at their best at the Olympics but their build up performance is related then that will be more like the Rowing as well.
  8. Maybe. I can see another two or three medals in Equestrian. A few in sailing. A few more in boxing. A few more in Swimming. Maybe one more in Diving. Canoeing a medal or two. Who knows with Gymnastics or Moden Pentathlon. Cycling maybe 3-5 if they saying they not hitting rock bottom. That will get past Athens and Atlanta but getting to 45 will be tough as Athletics could be embarrassing and the medals lost from Gymnastics, Athletics, rowing, tennis, and probably Rugby and Hockey combined effectively lowers from Rio to 45 anyway.
  9. Another fourth place. Rugby really needed that medal because the squad has no real support and qualification for Paris looks deeply uncertain. All these fourths must be worrying UK Sport because not getting 45 medals will put them in the firing line as it’s their target - cycling needs a good turn because Athletics will be poor (I can’t rule out a total medal shutout and gold less for the first time since Atlanta is the most likely outcome) and those two events will dominate week 2’s coverage so the narrative of the games in terms of broadcasting and perception might turn from British Success to British Failure.
  10. We have now beaten Atlanta in terms of Total medals as Karriss Artingstall gets herself at least a Bronze.
  11. Laugher and Daley will have to go very well in their individual events to get Diving the three medals it won in 2016. Daley feels the more likely of the two to get an individual medal as he showed he is in great form when Laugher didn’t today. Swimming (won 6), Equestrian (won 3 in Rio) or Modern Pentathlon (won none) look the only events that stand a reasonable chance improve their total medal performance from Rio. Even through Boxing only won 3 in Rio I am not sure they going to win 4 or more at all.
  12. Not a surprise. A super suit era record from a swimming team with a history of doping.
  13. Great result in the relay for GB. Shame they didn’t take the world record as that is a super suit one. I think it be taken sometime in the nest few years - maybe not by GB but someone will do it.
  14. https://www.skysports.com/olympics/news/15234/12166664/rowing-and-sailing-among-sports-facing-funding-cuts-ahead-of-2024-olympics I wonder if that will be changed. Swimming looks pretty good with good Paris potential also appearing. Sailing as well.
  15. That is because they won’t get any work linked to rowing if they too critical. Why do you think Steve Redgrave is helping China and not Team GB? The BBC only allow Michael Johnson to be the critical pundit and he is American so allowed to be that.
  16. Doesn’t look like any medal coming in Diving. No way is 45-51 medals being reached. Should be able to beat Sydney and Athens hopefully.
  17. Rowing is helped by Katherine Grainger being one of the biggest influencers in who gets funding. She is hardly likely to cut her own sport off even when they need that. The amount of fourths overnight is probably why the aim of 45 medals won’t be reached. Had one or two more of them got a medal it would have looked better. Even if Swimming does not break 6 medals ( which it can still do with two more good relay chances and couple of good single ones) it will still have been an outstanding meet. The other boat sport of Sailing is looking quite well for Team Gb at the moment,
  18. Why does Rowing continue with the b-final system. It feels such a waste of time.
  19. Looks like Bianca Walkden and her friends believe the ref cost her a place in the final.
  20. She was not at her best on Sunday and has mentioning finding the pressure hard - and the team final can eb the worse for pressure because it’s not just you. Say if she went on Beam or Bars and fell more than once. America could have crashed out of the medals
  21. Netherlands and Sweden seem like their the best two sides in the tournament.
  22. Incredible. Even the commentators here are shocked as unlike yesterday they were not hyping up the girls as possible challengers till right near the end - and one of them is Alice Kinsella’s coach. At one point they said Italy only needed a 12.5 to overtake GB when that wasn’t the case.
  23. I actually do wonder if a British Women will win gold here or will we end up with an all male gold line up for the first time since Atlanta. Laura Kenny and Dina Asher - Smith look the best hopes but both events are so unpredictable. Maybe a mixed relay in either swimming or triathlon will do it. It’s funny how the BBC comemtaors love the Russian Team in Gymnastics yet without them GB would have got a bronze yesterday and might end up fourth today. And a team bronze would have gone a long way to keeping funding going in a sport looking high up the cut list due to the NSPCC investigation of the Grassroots and other issues.
