  1. When I read this question, my mind initially and instinctively thought which one, Dvorák or Šebrle?
  2. Are the qualifying standards for next year's World Championships known yet? And if not, does anyone know when they will be released?
  3. Lane draw means nothing anyway in 800m.
  4. No our average temperature in January is around 8°C. We never get too warm or cold here. I mean we do occasionally get those minus temperatures but most days are milder. There is only about a 10°C difference between our winter and summer averages.
  5. Isn’t this what summer looks like everywhere? 18°C is our average July temperature, and if stays dry and calm it is considered a very good day
  6. Meanwhile in Ireland, better get that factor 50 sunscreen on….
  7. Sydney McLaughlin 50.68 to absolutely smash the World Record..... that's truly stunning!!
  8. New Zealand 22-32 Ireland Ireland achieved one of the rarest things in sport by winning a test series against the All Blacks in their own backyard. They are the first nation to do so since France won a 2-mach series against them in NZ in 1994! It also moves Ireland to the top of the world rankings. It was a match full of records for all the wrong reasons for the All Blacks.... they trailed 3-22 at half-time which is their worst ever deficit at half-time in their history. It is also a 5th win for Ireland against the All Blacks in 8 meetings which is unthinkable given we went literally over a century to get our first victory against them.
  9. Chile qualified for the World Cup for the first time ever They have beaten USA in Colorado by a scoreline of 29-31 to win the 2-legged play-off on 52-51!! They came back from 19-0 down in this match as well (20 behind on aggregate)... what a comeback! Massive result for Chile and for the first time ever, there will be 3 South American nations at the Rugby World Cup! USA will now go to the World Repechage and will attempt to win the final World Cup berth.... standing in their way will be and most likely though they have to play-off against Tonga first. Chile's first ever World Cup campaign will see them meet and in Pool D. @Pabloffo Congratulations! I am wondering how this news will be received in Chile and if it makes headlines?
  10. Time to watch the women’s 20km walk. Hoping my nieces can one day compete in this event, both of them won their respective age groups at Irish underage level and one even beat Kate Veale’s national record. Veale was a world junior silver medalist so not a bad target to achieve!
  11. He was trying to prove to heywoodu how fast he was and he pushed it too hard
  12. I’m not sure but I imagine pretty fast. Ireland had a good junior sprinter who was running 10.4 100m and 20.69 in 200m as an 18 year old and he converted to rugby sevens and Fiji seem to have even faster guys in rugby sevens than us. So not sure what times they are running but that perhaps gives you some indication.
  13. Namibia 36-0 Kenya Namibia qualify for their 7th Rugby World Cup (they haven't missed a single edition since making their debut in 1999). They go into Pool A alongside hosts France, New Zealand, Italy and Uruguay. Namibia are still looking to win their first match at a World Cup having failed in 19 attempts. Kenya enter the World Repechage tournament which offers one final ticket to make it to the 2023 World Cup. Chile 21-22 United States Chile are still in the fight to qualify for their first ever World Cup, losing narrowly to the USA in the first leg of their 2-legged play-off in Santiago. The return leg is scheduled for next Saturday in Colorado, USA. Chile already knocked out Canada, ending the Canadians perfect record of appearing in every World Cup. The winner of this 2-legged tie will qualify directly for the World Cup while the loser will enter the World Repechage for one final shot at qualifying. This repechage will be contested by 4 nations with the winner claiming the last spot in the World Cup Finals. Portugal and Kenya are 2 of those contenders, with the loser of Chile / USA joining them alongside the Asia/Pacific play-off runner-up (most likely Hong Kong as Tonga should easily defeat them in the play-off).
  14. Ireland Team For Oregon World Championships Ireland is sending a team of 19 athletes for the upcoming World Championships in Oregon. Ciara Mageean, Phil Healy and Fionnuala McCormack have withdrawn to focus instead on the European Championships in Munich. The most exciting athlete is 19-year-old Rhasidat Adekele as she qualified for both the 200m and 400m but she will concentrate on the 400m only. Her range of distances from 60m up to 400m is impressive and she still does not train specifically for 400m so when she begins to focus on that distance she could run some special times. She will also be an asset to our future 4x400m women's and mixed relay teams on the road to Paris 2024. Apart from that, it is probably going to be a very low-key world championships for Ireland but I am excited to see how Dave Kenny performs in the 20km walk. As per usual, Ireland will have absolutely no representatives in field events. Men's 400m Chris O'Donnell Men's 800m Mark English Men's 1500m Andrew Coscoran Men's 400m Hurdles Thomas Barr Men's 20km Walk David Kenny Men's 35km Walk Brendan Boyce Women's 400m Rhasidat Adeleke Women's 400m Sophie Becker Women's 800m Louise Shanahan Women's 1500m Sarah Healy Women's 100m Hurdles Sarah Lavin Women's 4x100m Relay Rhasidat Adeleke, Molly Scott, Sarah Lavin, Joan Healy, Sarah Leahy, Lauren Roy, Adeyemi Talabi Mixed 4x400m Relay Chris O'Donnell, Jack Raftery, Luke Lennon-Ford, Rhasidat Adeleke, Sophie Becker, Sharlene Mawdsley
