  1. Unless all 4 teams finish on 4 points. Unlikely but it has happened (World Cup 1994 is one I remember well when Norway finished bottom and were eliminated with 4 points).
  2. I’m not sure if they will be allocated, but if they aren’t then that quota will go to the next highest in the Olympic ranking which I think would be Russell White. I’m not certain though, will wait and see how the simulation in the world triathlon website updates the list after today’s results to see if Russell is indeed first in line for that reallocation if it did happen.
  3. This is definitely like TISC.... you wait 553 mins and then bam, 12 points 2 goals in a couple of minutes !
  4. 1 minute since Ukraine scored at the Euros now
  5. Heartbreaking final Olympic qualification day for Russel White in the men's triathlon.... looks like he has been pipped for the final Olympic qualification spot by Stefan Zachäus from Luxembourg. Not sure of his prospects to receive a re-allocated quota as the official document states it will be reallocated to a NOC from the same continent that does not yet have a qualifier. But there is some hope I guess, but very sad for him to lose out on the last day.
  6. Will be interesting to see how it will work. But going off the Olympic schedule in both the Olympic website and world athletics, there will be a preliminary round in the men's 100m. Really doubt they would make that error since every minute has to be planned for and if there is a prelim, then there will be more than 56 quotas in the men's 100m.
  7. No they didn't copy and paste because the women's 100m did have a preliminary round in Rio, but not this time in Tokyo. If there is a men's prelim round in the official schedule with 4 heats and a round 1 with 7 heats, the only real explanation I can see is that those universality quotas won't be counted in the 56 for men's 100m. I don't know for sure of course but it's the only logic I can see in having that prelim. And it makes sense because the men's 100m is the one that will receive the bulk of the universality quota requests.
  8. Looks like this isn't the case for the men's 100m because in the official schedule there are 4 preliminary round heats, and then in Round 1 there will still be 7 heats (56 athletes). So the universality quotas in men's 100m won't affect those trying to qualify by ranking. This isn't the case for the women's 100m however which does not have a preliminary round and starts in Round 1 with 7 heats, same as men's round 1.

  12. How are they going to complete the fencing or showjumping in such a short amount of time?
  13. I hope I am equally as lucky when I register for mine next week
  14. Thanks for all the info! That would be so cool to see Ireland with a weightlifter at the Olympics and if it doesn’t happen I am already pleasantly surprised we had someone in the picture at least. My bad for not giving him the respect he deserves. Good luck to him
  15. Are you sure FINA is not behind this magic? This would be just beyond crazy, Jamaican bobsleigh team has nothing on this . One question... how??? How is this possible? Surely there must be 100 nations ahead of us!?
  16. Sive Brassil made the final at the World Championships, so to make the Olympic team she needs to either earn a direct quota by finishing among the 3 highest athletes not yet qualified or to finish as high as possible in order to overtake those above her in the rankings. There are quite a few non-qualified athletes in the final so finishing in the top 3 will be a stiff challenge. But the dream is alive and she is very capable of a big result, here's hoping
  17. That's very unfortunate for Arthur, he's been a great servant to Irish modern pentathlon in recent years and always passionately driven to be the best he can. Hope to see him back fit again for Paris 2024!

  19. QUALIFICATION UPDATE Updated with the qualification of Megan Fletcher in Judo. By reaching the bronze medal match in the Women's -70kg at the World Championships today, she has secured her ticket to the Olympics by virtue of World Rankings and is simply awaiting her invitation now to make it official. Ireland Tokyo 2020 Olympic Team IRELAND 81 athletes 32 men athletes 40 women athletes 48 events 15 sports NEW QUALIFIER: 1 JUDO NAME QUALIFICATION Women's -70 kg FLETCHER Megan IJF Olympic Qualification Ranking - Currently Ranked 24th and Occupying Quota Position in IJF Olympic Ranking but will be guaranteed quota position in the next ranking update after reaching the Bronze Medal Match in the World Championships on 10th June. The full qualification tracker can be found here:
  20. Megan Fletcher just missed out on bronze and what would have been a historic first medal for Ireland at the judo world championships. But she has secured her Olympic ticket now, so not a bad consolation prize!
  21. Can’t wait for FINA to award Ireland an invite in this discipline too and then rescind it. Unlike diving and swimming, we have no participants, but it’s FINA and anything is possible
  22. Only if the quota hasn’t been reached in the event already. If the quota is filled by athletes with the automatic qualification standard then the rankings will not be used... they are only used to fill the quota in events where there are places available.
