  1. No, it was Great Britain and Japan who beat us. 255 puts us in medal contention, but it'd be a small chance. Pushing for 260 would put us in a better position.
  2. Quite hopeful with the draw. I want to say we have a chance in each event (some more than others)
  3. Tennis I get, because outside of the Olympics they allow two individuals from any nation to form a doubles pair, but canoeing and rowing doesn't have such rules.
  4. If they are like the previous years, the IOC creates additional quotas for the refugees. As for the athletes which already qualified, I think those spots will remain with them. Think of it like the tripartite invitations, tripartite nations can qualify normally or be given an invitation. In the refugee's case we don't know how many invitations are available until today.
  5. Yes, teams have two opportunities to qualify to the Olympics. The results of the final do not matter.
  6. It likely doesn't change the outcome for Paris, but maybe the federation can get its act together by 2028
  7. There was an eligible meet during those days in Banja Luka, but it's called the April 22nd International Swim Meet. Was this the same event?
  8. I fixed the official ranking section on Wikipedia so it should be accurate as of now. needs to decline two quotas between MS/WS/WD/XD. There will likely be changes between which individual/pair a nation will select which may affect the total number of single athletes. Additionally, a nation (New Zealand) may outright reject a quota or injuries may cause someone to withdraw.
  9. The person has made a few assumptions. Particularly, 1. Australia and New Zealand will decline their singles quota (Possible to likely) 2. The tripartite quotas will be reallocated (Not going to happen)
  10. Now that the badminton rankings have closed I have (finally) removed and
  11. You counted Kantaphon WANGCHAROEN when Kunlavut VITIDSARN is 8th. That means holds on to the last quota
  12. Yeah, now that there's no risk of a team boycotting their match against Israel (at least until the knockout stage) there's no need to create a crazy system to avoid an uncomfortable match-up.
  13. Here are eligible tripartite nations which competed at the zone qualifiers. While technically not a requirement to be selected, I don't want to go through the entire rankings and consider athletes whom competed at a random event. At least here they had the goal of trying to qualify to the Olympics. Additionally, I removed tripartite nations which already qualified an athlete in a different event. The tripartite committee rarely awards quotas to nations already with quotas. - M Epee - M Foil - W Epee, W Foil - W Foil, W Sabre - M Epee - M Sabre - M Epee - M Epee, M Foil - M Epee, M Foil, M Sabre - M Epee, M Foil, M Sabre, W Sabre - M Epee - M Epee - M Epee, M Foil, M Sabre, W Sabre - M Epee, M Foil, W Epee, W Foil - W Epee - W Sabre Most of the athletes did poorly at their zonal qualifiers. Additionally, the nation has to formally apply for the quota months ago. Considering fencing had no direct tripartite quotas, some nations may have skipped applying for it in favour of other events. I hope Cabo Verde and Mali get a quota, but we'll see.
  14. Since France is not using any of its 8 host quotas, they are first awarded to tripartite nations. If they are not allocated, then they are awarded to the next highest ranked eligible athlete across all events. An event may only have a maximum of three additional entries so each event will have between 34 to 37 entrants.
  15. I think a few will be awarded to tripartite nations, but I don't see it being more than four so the top half of that list looks pretty safe.
  16. My apologies, I misread. Llavador is a bit unfortunate, but at the same time he was the big favourite to win here and couldn't convert. It's not like the system prevented him from qualifying because even higher ranked athletes were in the way. He'll be the only person in the top 30 to miss out (excluding nations with more than 3 athletes). The team events can be fixed by awarding the continental quotas first then the next four highest ranked nations. This would drop Poland (who was 9th) and Canada while Hong Kong and South Korea would qualify.
  17. Canada has two fencers in the top 30 while Poland has one. In fact, they are all in the top 15. When the options are lower ranked team athletes get to participate or no one participates I personally would go with the former.
  18. Does anyone know if Agate de Sousa has made the switch to ? If not, she's the first athlete from to qualify to the Olympics after getting 6.88 in women's long jump.
  19. She had an opportunity to qualify through the rankings, she just didn't rank high enough. Her second opportunity was through this qualifier. In all fairness, she's ranked 33rd (26th if you remove nations with more than 3 athletes). This isn't a top 5 athlete with a medal chance missing out.
  20. Yeah, if you look at the number of athletes in the past along with the increased number of events we should be pushing around 12,000 athletes. That's around 1500 missing athletes. Even 1000 extra would fix a lot of things.
  21. The IOC isn't going to give more quotas to fencing so instead of having a ~34 person tournament you will have ~26 person tournament.
  22. It's one of the more basic qualification system, the only major change I would make is to make the continental quotas a higher priority in the team event. The bigger issue is that the sport needs more quotas (more so than most other sports).
  23. Another typical big Asian nation has been eliminated. Uzbekistan with three tries to qualify to the Olympics.
