  1. Yeah, they have been doing it this season. It does have the good effect of making the last eight cutoff point a lot less predictable, but the medals generally go to the usual nations.
  2. 6 months to the Paralympics. Paris 2024: All you need to know for Paralympic Games - BBC Sport
  3. Don't know, but I'm guessing leftists are throwing fits because they lost the election so heavily.
  4. Will be interesting, but my confident opinion based on complete 100% ignorance of the principles of either sport but my willingness to start a fight is that surfing depends on physical strength, and that skateboarding depends on youthful flexibility.
  5. Exactly. Or you have a seeded competition based on a four-year world rankings on fencing and if you’re knocked out in Round 1, whose fault is that?
  6. Finished a relay for the first time since about 2000 or so!
  7. Great moments in athletics - winner of the 800m in Madrid throws his bouquet into the crowd - and everyone starts fighting over it, destroying it.
  8. First ever World Championship medal for aka de glijdende duivels.
  9. Well, you can go back to having a five-day comp as it was in 1976 when Thomas Bach became Olympic Champion in Fencing. For those who find Test Cricket just a bit too rushed.
  10. UK Nationals this weekend on FTA https://youtube.com/@britishcycling?si=r3v6KN1EO_fBW9m3
  11. Don’t like the other changes, but frankly this is overdue.
  12. Sure, but lots of sports are broadcast with the same dual sex basis & biathlon is the only one where women win the ratings battle. Possibly because it’s the only one where women actually have a biological advantage - with shooting positions.
  13. Gymnastics, Figure Skating (Olympic) Softball & Netball (non-O) are the only female sports that sustain the kind of commercial audience sufficient to be professional without subsidies from the male version. AFAIK the single shared sport where the women get bigger audiences & therefore better TV spots than men is….biathlon.
  14. Two big meets tomorrow - unfortunately Berlin seems to be restricted to German & Polish TV only. Madrid is the Gold Tour Final - preview here. https://worldathletics.org/news/preview/meeting-indoor-tour-final-madrid-2024-charlton
  15. Catching up again - Ruta del Sol was something less than a classic this year. Will give ES coverage a miss. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_Vuelta_a_Andalucía?wprov=sfti1#
  16. Greg Rutherford literally made his whole career out of getting up at dawn, putting in a valid Q first time, then sitting back and watching guys with 8.55m SBs jump XXX and go home.
  17. One good NCAA meet is FTA this weekend - also has apps on all the major services. https://themw.com/watch/?sport=379
  18. “Looks like I’ve picked a bad week to quit drinking:
  19. When Taylor Swift sings for two hours she gets paid millions. When I sing for only two minutes people throw bottles at me. Why is that?
  20. Even the poorest countries get access to super shoes if they produce, as they do, promising young athletes. Nobody can argue that hi tech shoes are discriminatory.
  21. The problem is that globally you are creating two different sports. The high-tech 20% will compete to one set of rules, the low-tech poor 80% will compete to another. What good does that do?
  22. Just caught up with those two races. Absolute classics in front of big crowds. First American male win in a distance race since Bill Koch in the early 1980s.
