  1. So, basically you have three teams of four. The game is played with a giant, light ball. Three members of a team hold the ball while the fourth hits it, immediately after announcing which of the other two teams they are "attacking". If the ball hits the floor or a foul is committed both teams that weren't being attacked get a point. The team that was attacked now attacks one of the other teams. Game continues until a team reaches a predetermined number of points. The game is basically about finding creative and deceptive ways of attacking another team, along with obviously being good at chasing down the ball when your team is attacked.
  2. We actually played this a lot in high school. Probably the second most obscure sport we did (after kinball).
  3. I really hope gets both a men’s and women’s trap wildcard.
  4. Laser run? I thought that was going to be some cool laser tag thing, not the lame biathlon but worse in every way combined run shoot they use in Modern Pentathlon.
  5. ...was it even ruled a tie initially? Hard to arrange a tie when they have a photo finish camera.
  6. They might as well call this the B Basketball World Championship, it’s worse than the Ice Hockey World Championship in terms of player participation. Though, granted, even the Olympics are weird in that regard given that the US could probably have the best, second best, third best and fourth best teams. Either way, it’s shaping up to be a bit of a boring competition. Big scrap for silver while the C team dominates.
  7. Japan would have qualified even if they weren’t the host nation, so...
  8. So at least in Canadian English there is a difference. The prime minister is the leader of the federal government while a premier is the leader of a provincial government. Meanwhile in French (even in Canada) both are the same word.
  9. A men's quota gets re-allocated since the US, who won the mixed team event, already had a men's quota and Brazil was in the top 4 of the individual event.
  10. They better send some chocolates and flowers to the Bulgarian and Canadian teams.
  11. I don't get why Bulgaria is so sloppy on service reception. They gifted two aces to Brazil in this final set.
  12. Crispin Duenas wins the men's archery event in a close finals over Marcus Dalmeida. Eric Peters wins bronze. Both finalists earn an Olympic quota for their country.
  13. P.J. Kwong is also doing the in stadium announcing for archery. The organizers are sure making sure to get their money's worth with her xD
  14. Since won the mixed team event both and get a 2020 quota for the the men's individual event.
  15. Sure, but those are nations that actually win medals and qualify for finals at the Olympics. Across ten individual finals in Trampoline since it got added to the Olympics an American country made a finals eight times. An American country hasn't made an individual finals in Rhythmic Gymnastics in a non-boycotted Olympics, ever, and has never finished higher than seventh in group all around.
  16. Can we get an extra silver medal for being second best at winning silver medals?
  17. Dropping an Olympic sport that originates from the Americas and where American countries have historically done well would be bizarre.
  18. I honestly have zero problems with Wilfredo Leon representing Poland. He lives in Poland, is married to a Polish women, has a Polish kid...
  19. I really hope the Canadians where up extremely late and super hung over because dear god that gold medal game. 24 - 4 .
  20. I really wish kumite wasn't interrupted every five seconds by athletes screaming and looking at the referee. It's as bad as sabre / foil, but at least in those sports there is a cue for the athletes to stop the action.
  21. I still remember how she absolutely dominated the 8 or 9 horse jump-off for bronze in 2008. It was pretty impressive.
  22. Wow, disappointing way to end that match for . Letting two serves go, bunch of serving faults...
  23. If I recall correctly the FEI originally wanted to assign the 2 spots from group D and 2 spots for group E by ranking, and the Pan Am national federations requested to go back to 4 spots at the Pan Am games. Basically everyone in the Americas prefers the current system over using the ranking.
  24. IIRC it does not matter for show jumping qualification.
