  1. We should root for Germany, since then it will be a partial Canadian gold medal
  2. I duno, I really like bunnies. Believe it or not, the TV breaks are a lot shorter here than in the NHL. Best part of watching basketball at the Olympics vs the NBA is the lack of TV timeouts, too.
  3. You misspelled "TV timeouts". Edit: huh, powerbreak is German for TV timeout.
  4. That record isn't long for this world considering all the events being added anyway. Let Germany have it. I want the upset! ...obviously Germany winning would be highly irregular xD
  5. Nah, I think Germany was just better than people thought Russia is certainly not humiliating Germany, a team which won in an uphill battle against Canada.
  6. If you give 2026 to Calgary you'll get your Kreisel
  7. I honestly have no idea what the Beijing 2022 track will be like. I actually am in love with the Pyeongchang track, especially as a luge track (curve 9 is one of the best curve in the world IMO), I'd like Beijing's track to be similar but maybe like five to ten seconds longer. And with a longer start for Bobsleigh. I know it's unlikely but I really hope to see some luge world cups in Pyeongchang.
  8. We are seeing a lot of ties because it's a short technical track, like we had in Nagano. On most tracks ties aren't super common.
  9. No matter what kind of rounding you use there are always going to be silly situations like that. Taking a modern physics lab, where we spent a ridiculous amount of time talking about error margins, has made me ponder how we should round times in sport quite a bit and whether we should just give ties within a certain time regardless of how it rounds / trims.
  10. TBH if I was in charge of the FIL luge wouldn't be timed to the thousandth. At some point it gets ridiculous.
  11. Germany is going to win gold in hockey so Norway has no chance xD
  12. In shooting you need to have shoot-offs because otherwise you could collude to have a tie. In a sport like bobsleigh ties happen by accident, there is no way to force one.
  13. Congratulations to Kevin Kuske, the most decorated Bobsleigh athlete in Olympic history, he is now ahead of his former pilot André Lange.
  14. I hope Won and Seo keep at it, would be nice for Korea to become a permanent fixture in Bobsleigh. Sure Won had a huge home track advantage, but he has proven to be a talented pilot on the world cup tour.
  15. They better not, ties in bobsleigh are awesome.
  16. Fun fact: the last time there where two ties for medals at the Olympics in Bobsleigh was in Nagano. Lets see what happens in Beijing xD
  17. So good to see and on a Curling podium at the Olympics. Very good for the sport.
  19. The mass start would be greatly improved if they got rid of the points and make it a couple laps longer. It was still an entertaining event though, and goven it ads no athletes... meh, I say keep it.
  20. I mean that's what they do in speed skating, short track and figure skating: if you compete you get a medal, if you're a non-competing alternate you don't get a medal. It's also the rule in hockey, last Olympics Switzerland only got 20 bronze medals in women's hockey because one of their goaltender was never dressed.
  21. As a Canadian living in the US and married to an American, this is the darkest timeline - I can't be smug about how much better Canada is in curling for at least four years D:
  22. I would really like to see the photo finish for that race.
  23. 1. Canadians care a *lot* about beating the US the one time every four years they play in the Olympics. 2. Not nearly as much as when the NHL was there, but the feeling in Canada is that the D team losing to Germany's almost A team is still a national embarrassment. 3. Curling is something that does get mainstream attention, especially during the Scotties and the Brier (the women's and men's national championships). It's not one of the top sports like hockey or basketball or even football (either the American or the Association kind), but there are enough consistent fans that it isn't a curiosity during the Olympics like a lot of the other sports are.
  24. Toutant was a surprise, but he won an event where the top two favorites where Canadians. Kripps was the best bobsleigh pilot this year so I don't see how it was surprising for him to win gold here. Certainly a lot less surprising than Jamanka winning.
