    Men's moguls is obviously the highlight of the day from a Canadian perspective, and Q1 went really well for Canada. Kingsbury qualified first by a comfortable margin while Ikuma Horishima, the only skier who can really beat Kingsbury without relying on Kingsbury making a mistake, had a big struggle in Q1.

    Charles Hamelin is not competing on day 1 at all - he wasn't chosen for the mixed relay either. The pool for that event is Courtney Sarault, Florence Brunelle, Kim Boutin, Steven Dubois, Jordan Pierre-Gilles and Pascal Dion. Also, on a related note, best medal chance for is today :P Especially surprising since he cited the 1000m as a big motivation for continuing until 2022.

    Frankly they were perhaps a little generous towards ROC.

    Really did not expect the being ahead of in the rhythm dance. I still think ROC is the big, big favourite but there isn't as much margin for error as I expected.

    What a skate by Uno. It's a real shame Japan doesn't have a competitive ice dance team, because they could contend for gold in the team event if they did.

    Dumais is injured (has a hernia) so I think just making it to final 1 would be a big accomplishment.

    Brianna Decker is out for the remainder of the Olympics due to the injury she sustained against . The US (foolishly tbh) didn't bring a taxi squad, but they are looking at options for replacing Decker.

    She apparently has a spinal cord injury, but there is no risk of paralysis. She has withdrawn from both slopestyle and big air and will return to Japan once it is safe for her to do so.

    About injuries - Canada has a four person taxi squad on site, the US have... nobody. For inexplicable reasons.

    I'd say both the Dufour-Lapointe sisters looked about as good as they've looked at any point this year, if not better (didn't see much of them because they have rarely made finals this season). A medal isn't realistic but maybe one of them could sneak into final 3.

    This isn't an upset at all. has been consistently better than over the entire quad. Japan has the capacity to beat any team in group B, and only is clearly better than them.

    Kind of a classic Horishima run. At his very best he's almost unbeatable, but he is very prone to making mistakes, too.

    wins 2-0 over after scoring what might be (and I am not exaggerating) one of the luckiest goals in the history of football. In added time Borjan made a spectacular save and David scores a goal when all of El Salvador was pressing for an equalizer. is not yet qualified for sure, but it would take an insane sequence of events for Canada not to qualify. Three points out of three matches would do it even if none of the other results are favorable.
